good morning. it is 6:00 a.m. as we show you a live picture over raleigh right now. and it is saturday, january 16th 2016. we have a lot of weather to talk about this morning. it is dry outside right now and we had some rain move through yesterday and into last night but we're dry currently and nothing popping up on the radar. we're talk about a little bit of snow for some of us tomorrow. outside right now, things are quiet and dry. and the wet weather that rolled through last night it is out of here, all to the northern. so we're going to see -- to the north. and we're going to see the sunshine today and it is 45 in raleigh and mild start to the morning and 45 in durham and

and 49 is the current temperature in fayetteville. and we're going off to a dry cold front move through the area today that will cool us off and we'll see some flakes mix in with rain as we head into tomorrow morning till about lunchtime tomorrow and no accumulations for us here. and a chance it see a little snow. 45 agrees at 8:00 a.m. and looking at a temperature of 52 at lunchtime and 56 at 4:00. and tomorrow, the best chance of seeing a few of the flakes will be in the morning. 8:00, 35 degrees tomorrow. 41 by noon and we dry out with more sunshine as we head into tomorrow afternoon. so i'll break down everything for you and let you know what to expect in a few minutes. the operation against extremists that took over a high end hotel in the african nation of -- is now over.

showed that 22 people killed and 126 other freed after al qaeda extremists took over the hotel and one you go you go military member was imbedded with the troop there and they provided other help during the siege. the hostage situation lasted more than four hours. so far four militants have been killed. and durham police are working to find out who killed a young man and who fired more than a dozen shots outside of a durham neighborhood yesterday afternoon on north miami boulevard yesterday afternoon. the police arrived and they found jose rodriguez shot and collapsed behind the house and he died at the hospital. and the police have not released any information on the suspect. but they believe this shooting

the northeast and we're tracking the next cold front and it is sitting to the west right now. and we're in the going to notice it as it moves in. and tomorrow, we have a weak area of low pressure that may bring us some flames that bring us rain showers tomorrow morning to noon tomorrow. so today, we're dry and sunny. and tomorrow we'll start the morning off early with a lot of cloud cover and the clouds increasing tonight and we're looking at mostly cloudy skies tomorrow morning and 8:00 tomorrow morning, we have a chance to satisfy a few flakes working their way in here and the western portions may have a little light snow falling with some temperatures are cold enough. and we start to see the rain snow mix around most of the triangle and the best chance for seeing snow is going to be for folks north of i-85. for most of us along the triangle here, we'll see some

that rain and the rain is going to continue into early afternoon. so the precipitation is out of here quickly tomorrow. and we'll see a return of partly sunny skies by tomorrow afternoon. so the main threat for any kind of wet weather is going to be in the morning. for the folks in the western portions and northwestern portions of our viewing here. we're looking up to a dusting of snow and that will be grassy surfaces and patios and decks and mailboxes. and for those of us in the triangle, we're looking at wet stuff mixed in with rain t is more of a nuisance in the morning. and south of the triangle, we're looking at light rain tomorrow and clearing out by lunchtime and noon tomorrow, we should be clear in the area. 56 will be the high temperature in raleigh. and a lot of sunshine nice through start week here and 55 in durham and looking at a few

to 35 agrees and clouds increase around the area and we will see the first little hints of wet weather moving in by dawn tomorrow. so daybreak, we'll see the rain, snow mix. but it is out of here quickly tomorrow and we have sunshine late in the forecast tomorrow in the afternoon. mlk on monday, we're looking at temperatures in the 30s for the highs. so colder air moving in and sunshine for monday. and i know it is a three day weekend for people in the area. tuesday morning, we're going to start things off in the teens. 19 degrees tuesday morning and the high temperature tuesday afternoon only up to 34. so really cold air moving in for the start of the upcoming week and the temperatures falling into the 20s and the end of the week, the highs are in the 40s. we want to let you know about big changes coming here to wncn. we'll be the new home for cbs programming.

good morning. i'm justin quesinberry. >> and we have some fog but it is not all day. we have sunshine in the forecast today. >> the question is tomorrow. what is happening tomorrow? >> my suggestion is enjoy the sunshine today because winter is back tomorrow and we'll feel it in the morning with a chance for wet snowflakes mixing in with the rain showers as we kick off sunday. we have rain to the north and back to the northwest. anymore. so the rain that moved through yesterday into last night is out of here competely and 45 degrees as we start the morning here in raleigh and 45 in durham and 38 in roxboro and 42 in siler city and 47 in goldsboro and rocky mount. and we have the dry cold front moving in today. and that is moving to the west and that will come through dry and it will put cold air in place and a system of low pressure behind it, weave a

found 25-year-old jose rodriguez shot and collapsed behind the house. >> i walk up the street sometimes. it's like it shocked me and hit home. >> reporter: the first responders tried to do cpr on the man but he died before they could get him to the hospital. the police have not released his name or any information about any suspects. this is the third deadly shooting in this city this month. a fourth death that is being called suspicious is under investigation. >> it reminds me back up north in philadelphia. >> reporter: hours after the shootout, the police kept the road blocked off and looking around the house for more clues about how and why this happened. and durham police are concerned about the spike in violent crime.

michael highland, wncn now. a 24-year-old man accused of trying to kill his mother could soon be back on the street. kevin powell junior is accused of shooting his mother in a head at her salon and spa owned by her. and now co-- he could post $750,000 bond but he'll have restrictions. >> she is in critical condition in chapel hill. there will be no new trial for convicted boston marathon bomber, dzhokhar tsarnaev. this is largely symbolic because he is in federal prison and he has no money or income. and he was convicted and sentenced to death last year in

marathon that killed three people and injured 260 others. two people behind bars this morning accused of running a meth lab out of a raleigh home. friday the couple appeared in court. they face manufacturing and trafficking charges as well as child abuse. two children were found inside the same home where they were arrested on huntley drive. another woman that lives in a separate part of the home with children was not arrested. this is the second meth lab to be busted in wake county in one week. there were two children inside -- three children living in that home. and we decided to take a look at meth lab busts in your area. new data reveals there were 467 meth lab busts in 2015. this map shows you where the meth labs were found.

the temperatures pretty mild. 45 degrees in raleigh and 44 in durham and 48 in roxboro and that is the cool spot on the map and 49 degrees in fayetteville. and the temperatures today, we'll be warming up into the mid-50s. so a nice afternoon and we have some clouds and a little fog out there this morning and 8:00, they are pretty much out of here and a few clouds left and we got mostly sunny skies sticking around all day today and up to 52 at lunchtime and high 56. and some spots across the sand hills getting close to 60 this afternoon. so a warm day for us today. tomorrow a different story. so we have the dry cold front that will move through the area today and that is going to bring a return of some cooler air as we head into our sunday. and it is going to bring a chance of snowflakes mixed in with rain behind this front on sunday. tomorrow morning, so let's break things down a little bit here. i'll step you through our futurecast.

a nice start to the weekend and 6:00 tomorrow morning, we're going to stuck under a thick layer of clouds. tonight the clouds across the area, they're going to be increasing. and by 8:00 tomorrow morning, we start seeing a few snow showers working their way into the northwestern portions of our viewing area here. by 10:00, 11:00 a.m., we do have a chance at seeing some snowflake across the northwestern portion of our viewing area here and the. and we have some wet snowflakes mixing in with rain tomorrow morning and south and southeast of the triangle, we're going to see a chance for a few light rain showers. very quick tomorrow morning. this will be between 8:00 a.m. and noon. and that is the best chance to see any precipitation at all. and some of it will be snow mixed in with the rain. because the temperatures are so warm today, the snow that we do see not going to stick to anything. and the ground very warm here. as we head through tomorrow afternoon, the rain and the snow pulls out and we're dry

sunshine will be making a comeback. so here's what you can expect tomorrow morning. and the time frame between 8:00 a.m. and lunchtime, we have up to a dusting of snow. and we can handle that and it will be on grassy surfaces and cold surfaces like your patrons and decks and mailboxes. in the triangle, that is most of us here, we got wet flakes mixing in with rain and south of the triangle that is going to be light rain between 8:00 a.m. and noon tomorrow before all the wet weather wraps up and we see more sunshine tomorrow afternoon. looking at a high of 56 today in raleigh, 55 in durham, 59 in fayetteville. tonight the temperatures fall to 35 degrees so a chilly night with increasing clouds and winds out of the north at four to eight miles an hour. and the 7-day forecast has the temperatures taking the plunge this week. and tomorrow, we have the threat of snow showers mixing in with rain showers early tomorrow morning. lunchtime we're done with any kind of wet and wintry weather. and if we see any snow stick
