the man. amy has our story. >> reporter: their heavy hearts here to triangle diving center tonight. james stremmel was up member here and was passionate about his sport. >> reporter: this is a photo of james stremmel taken before this tragic accident. it's how france say they want to remember the former marine. greg upper is the owner of that center. >> it's unfortunate, it's unexpected and it was a tragic accidents. >> reporter: it happened around two saturday afternoon at the triangle executive airport in louisburg. stremmel went up with a few others and it was his second or third jump of the day. but somehow the last one was different. stremmel had a hard landing. >> he had 1800 all plus jumps, he's very experienced. that's why it's devastating because we just don't know what

stremmel moved to raleigh a couple years ago after he left the marine corps. he wanted to travel to skydive all around the world. stremmel did 13,000 jumps a year and has -- they have never had a fatality. the franklin county sheriff's office and the faa are investigating and the faa will determine the final cause of the accident. in franklin county, amy cutler, trail in raleigh was closed after a car went off in a bank went into a tree. anyone was injured and was taken to a hospital for treatment of non- life-threatening injuries. accident. two people are dead and a third is recovering after a crash in fayette jail. a man lost control of his car and slammed into a tree along

midnight. the managers passenger died in the crash, another person was also injured. troopers tell the be ncn both in the crash. also in fayetteville police are investigating the death of a man at the new life mission as a murder. police identified the man as ricky dale henney living at the shelter. antonio cooper has been charged with first-degree murder. penny suffered, to his head and cooper is being held at the cumberland county detention center. a siler city firefighter is now in his final resting place. joshua woods responded to an emergency and died. he was headed south on silk oak road when he crossed over the line and struck two trees. hundreds gathered to pay respects. >> caring.

>> reporter: family of 24-year- old joshua woods said he would do anything for not only his family but the community while he was on duty as a siler city volunteer firefighter. he volunteered for nearly three years but on early tuesday morning investigators say woods died while responding to a call. >> that's a big loss to the community. >> reporter: saturday family and friends came to say their final goodbyes. >> a good high -- hundreds attend the funeral. many of them couldn't even fit inside the church, including all these firefighters and law enforcement officers from across mid-north carolina. most did not get the chance to meet woods. >> when something happens like this we try to come together to support one another. >> reporter: as woods was carried out of the church, a

uniform during a final salute to a fallen firefighter. >> it's a symbol that we're holding the firefighter in our arms and the family as well. >> reporter: he was placed in a siler city fire truck and taken to his final resting place followed by fire trucks and family and friends. >> our hearts really go out to them and we hope that this brings them some level of comfort knowing that they have support in the community and in the fire service community. >> reporter: but for many losing a life at 24 years young still does not make sense. >> god knows this and that's the only thing i can get out is jesus now. >> reporter: wednesdays behind his wife and gnome two young sons. they were expecting another young child in april. >> i turning to political news we are just about two weeks away from the iowa caucuses and
