that hit three teenagers and kept going. two dead and another one in critical condition. justin quesinberry joins us live in the studio with what we've just learned. >> reporter: troopers said that the driver was driving a white truck when the teens were hit in harnett county late saturday night. jessica took this picture with her sister jennifer not long before walking to the store with friends saturday night. it would be among the last photos they took to each other. >> we were going to get candy from the kangaroo. the truck ran down three of my friends and kept going and never stopped. he stomped on the gas and kept going. >> reporter: jennifer and a 16- year-old kyle straight. kyle's mother had a heart attack and in the hospital after she learned of his death.

families are having to go through this. they're just babies. >> reporter: 14-year-old steven daniels was injured in the hit- and-run that left the families mourning and a message for the driver. >> turn yourself in because it will be worse in the end. there are a lot of people upset. >> anyone with information is asked to call the high patrol. a man is dead in fayetteville after being hit on a motorcycle in gillespie street. 26-year-old andrew dunlap of hope mills drove across the center median and crashed into a motorcycle. the driver lynn rattily of hope mills died in the crash. dunlap is facing charges and being held in the cumberland county detention center on a $100,000 bond. the search continues for 12 missing marines whose helicopter hads collided off

iowa caucuses begin. and last night the final democratic debate took place in south carolina. happening right now, the search is on in utah for a woman connected to a shooting that killed a police officer and put another one in the hospital. two officers are named doug barney and doug rich i rich ritchie. minutes later, the man got into a gun fight with other officers. he died in the shootout. and river ritchie was hit three times but he is expected to survive. the police in upstate new york are trying to figure out how three people died at a home near a community college. they found two men and one woman dead inside. no firearm was used. but a knife was recovered at the scene. they are not ruling this a double murder-suicide or which of the deceased could be the suspect in this case.

tornado touches down in sarasota and manatee county, florida. they had 18 minutes of warning before the ef-2 tornado tore across 7 miles at 4:00 yesterday morning. >> their son was running drown the driveway and coming and covered in blood. and all he kept saying is i can't find the my dad. sew jumped on the -- so he jumped on the back of the truck. >> two people killed were from the same family and four kids and one other adult were hurt in that as well. 44 vehicles involved in this pileup and another 12 vehicle pileup happened around the same time in south dakota. it's a frosty start for the

look ahead. don't get too hung up on the next couple days. the cold temperatures will not last very long. but we have cold air moving in. and the satellite clear. nothing as far as wet or wintry precipitation. that was a different story yesterday. behind that messy weather yesterday morning, the temperatures are cold. 28 degrees in raleigh, 32 in durham and 30 in rocky mount and 29 in goldsboro and 30 in fayetteville. you may need to leave yourself a couple extra minutes to scrape off the windshield and be careful on the way to work. in some spots, we have the ice forming. but be careful out there. and the cold temperature across the area and we'll drop a few more degrees this morning and down to 26 degrees and 28 at 10:00 and up to 30 at lunchtime and 32 at 2:00. and the high temperature only 35 degrees. but the good news is we have a lot of sunshine in the forecast for today.

so we had an area of low pressure bring us rain and snow yesterday. behind it a cold front moved in last night and that is now ushering in the coldest air of the season so far. today and tomorrow, the temperatures not getting out of the 30s. and the sunshine is going to stick around. so we got a beautiful looking couple of days. but you'll need to bundle up especially in the morning hours. and wednesday and thursday, an area of high pressure continues to dominate our weather here that will lead to mostly sunny skies. and the temperature a bit warmer and we're back into the 40s wednesday and thursday. but that is still below average for this time of the year. and the high slides out of the way on friday and the next disturbance slides through from the southwest. we may have a few wet snowflakes mixing in. it is january and it was bound to happen at some point. 35 the high temperature in raleigh today and looking at a high of 35 in durham and 35 in

and the temperatures fall to 16 degrees near single digits windchills tomorrow morning and you need the heavy coats, the gloves and the hats and the scarves. and on the way into work too with the temperatures falling into the teens and it will feel frigid tomorrow morning and up to 32 tomorrow afternoon after we start in the teens. down to the teens again tuesday night into wednesday. wednesday afternoon, we're up to about 42. so we're a little warmer wednesday. and we're warmer on thursday with a high of 47. and then we're tracking the next storm system moving in on friday and expect rain friday and possibly on a few wet snowflakes mixing in on saturday morning before we dry out saturday night into sunday so a cold weekend coming our way. but things are looking okay for the morning drive this morning. and we have no major issues to report to you in your area thoroughfares this is a live look at i40 and miami boulevard. traffic is moving smoothly in
