caucuses, the first in the carolina panthers are the champions heading to the super bowl right now. >> and the wintry blast continues to affect north carolina with widespread power outages and icy roads. and schools across the area have also canceled classes. and we have a live look at the roads ahead of your commute. >> we were spared for most parts of that winter blast. how people across the east coast are digging out today. happy monday morning to you. you made it passed this weekend and all the snow and ice in our area, a lot of it melted off. >> a lot of melting happened. good morning. i'm stefan chase. the weather continues to top our news this morning. so let's get over to meteorologist alyssa corfont with a look at the forecast.

sunshine and the melting. yes. i was excited to see it as well. my street was a solid sheet of ice before the melting. but there's a threat of black ice as you head out this morning. the temperatures all below freezing. so watch out. if the road is shining, that means there's ice there. 19 in south hill, 21 in roxboro, 29 in durham and mid- 20s in littleton and clayton. here's the forecast today. the actual 8:00 temperature will be around 24 degrees and mainly sunny and the 40s are here and we're looking at a temperature of 50 for an afternoon high and back to 44 by 6:00 p.m.

robertson county deputies are investigating the attack of a dog that killed a 7-year-old. he was unresponsive and his eight-year-old brother badly injured. an investigation into the boy's death is ongoing. durham mission will continue the warm shelter again today. more than 400 men, women and children have been staying with them each night during the winter storm. they have been so packed that 30 had to sleep on the floor recently. we talked to one man that said that the snow finally drove them to go to the shelter. he is not only staying the night but he's going to enroll in the program now. >> i came here to change my life and turn my life around for the better and to get out of the cold and the snow and the bad weather to better myself. and these people are available

23 in louisburg and 24 in tar happy monday to you. i'm in the weather center with meteorologist alyssa corfont. we had a lot of ice, friday and saturday. but yesterday a lot tv melted off. it sounds like some of the same is going to happen today. yes. i expect more melting to happen. but the coming nights will not be as cold. but out there this morning, if you're seeing roads shining, likely ice. so 26 degrees right now. and this is a live picture from our tower camera.

where a few cars are braving the cold temperatures this morning. and here's the satellite and radar. maybe waking up to a few clouds. out in the west, we're looking a little more cloud cover this morning and also out in the mountains and even further west towards kentucky and tennessee. all and all, it will be a good day for us. lots of melting like we saw yesterday. but this morning, well below freezing. so look for black ice this morning. 26 in ravel -- in raleigh and littleton. and roxboro 21 degrees. so here is the setup today. the sunrises 7:21. till then, we'll have to watch for the temperatures very cold. and we drop to 24 at 7:00 a.m. and we'll start to climb slowly. 29 at 9:00 a.m.

you look back to the west, there's a little bit of cloud cover and nothing that will negatively impact your forecast. so let's look at temperatures on the map. 21 in roxboro and 19 in south hill. and we've below freezing for quite some time and 27 in claim ton, littleton and fayetteville this morning -- in clayton, littleton and fayetteville this morning. 33 by 10:00 a.m. so above freezing. but if you're in the direct sunlight before that, you may see the melting earlier. 41 at noon and 46 at 2:00 and 50 the afternoon high. and we stayed in the 40s for the highs yesterday. so this will be and improvement from where we were yesterday and we'll continue to climb for tomorrow. and we're looking for a chance of rain mid-week and that will cool us down and mid-40s on wednesday and 43 on thursday and the 50s back by friday.

we tracking warmer temperatures today and tomorrow, we're tracking plenty of sunshine and we're here mainly sunny skies through lunchtime and the afternoon hours. i think we'll turn part overnight tonight. and i expect us to stay dry and we'll see a little more cloud cover as we head out through our tuesday. this is tuesday evening and that could start to move through tuesday night into wednesday. and the catch, temperatures well above freezing. so we don't have to worry about any wintry precipitation for the coming week. and the high today 50 in raleigh, 49 in durham and back to 54 in fayetteville. overnight tonight, partly cloudy, near freezing. i don't think it will be wide spread of a threat to see black ice overnight. we may so watch out for isolated warnings tomorrow morning. and back into the 40s on wednesday as the rain comes through. but above freezing. and none of that a threat for us. 43 as we head towards thursday and a few lingering showers
