out the door. louisburg, you were at 30 and roxboro 21. and in the mid-20s in raleigh and clayton and now in fayetteville and the mid-20s and sanford at 22. we've been below freezing for quite some time in the overnight. and that means a perfect recipe for black ice. 24 at 8:00 a.m. and 41 at noon and 50 the afternoon high. and for the first time in a week, we'll be close to normal. and normal high for this time of year is 52. i'll let you know when you'll need your umbrella this week. but let's check in with the traffic conditions if you to head out early. a few cars in either direction. it is the area streets, and the neighborhood that you have to watch out for because that is where we're still dealing with a lot of ice.

we're looking at atlantic avenue, there's an accident on millersville road. we'll have another check on traffic and weather in about ten minutes. because of all of ice melting on the roads and causing issues on the roadways, several school systems have canceled classes today. we're talking about wake, orange and other school systems today. several school systems are operating on a two-hour delays. our team coverage continues of this winter weather as the alert continues. emma wright is checking out the conditions in wake county. how are things looking this morning out there? >> reporter: we've been driving around all morning. and things are hit and miss. and the roads that are cleared,

but the roads messy, they are really slick. we pulled over to a parking lot to show what you we're talking about this is what a lot of the secondary roads look like. it looks like they attempted to plow and scrape the snow but it froze and it created a giant sheet of ice. it is slick out here. if you got going way too fast, would you have an accident that is not something you want to do in the parking lot or the roads either. so something to remember when you're out and about this morning. we have seen some d.o.t. trucks out salting and sanding. but it will take a lot of salt and sand to clear up something like this but it will probably not happen by the time the morning commute ends. so take it slow. emma wright, wncn news. looking ahead today, federal officers in washington d.c. will remain closed today. this is after this weekend's storm dumped two feet of snow in the area.

this coming week, including the one that would override the veto. and the mid-alantic, cleanup continues today. and the plows started cleaning up snow along the jersey shore. and a mix of floodwaters were in the neighborhood streets. a tragic events from over the weekend. robertson deputies are investigating the death of a 7- year-old attacked and killed by a dog. the deputies said that the child was attacked in lumberton on saturday morning. they found 7-year-old taylor west unresponsive and he died at the hospital. and now an investigation into his death is ongoing. durham rescue mission will continue its warming mission again today. more than 400 men, women and children have been staying at the mission each night during the winter storm. and there have been so many

snow and ice. let's talk temperatures. 20 in south hill, 28 in durham and 22 in sanford and rayford is 24 degrees. this is what you need to know as you plan your monday. to 41 by lunchtime and the afternoon high should be close to 50. and we'll drop back to near 44 by 6:00 p.m. this evening. so you'll need the sunglasses for today and tomorrow and the temperatures climbing over the coming days. so 50 today and 56 tomorrow and that is above our normal high of 52. and we see rain showers wednesday and thursday. and that is a cold front coming through and we'll be into the 50s as we he had into friday. i so a little bit all over the place. but high pressure system still controlling our weather today a and that will bring us in a nice south early breeze. and i don't think as many of us
