the temperatures were milder this morning. here is the thing. they haven't moved. 46 right here at ralleigh durham international airport. cloudy as we get our morning started. let's take look at our satellite radar composite. you can see a few showers around central north carolina. a few lingeringen the coastline as well. could closer look at home, spotty showers. some falling across grandville county and warren county, even closer look this morning towards fuquay-varina. a few sprinkles in the apex area and durham into grandville county. just keep the umbrella with you as we head into the afternoon. most of these showers will wrap up over the next few hours. current temperatures 45 durham. the low 50s around the sand hills. cold front let to move through those areas. our high this afternoon 48, and

he had been shot. state troopers investigating a deadly car accident. investigators tell us that 18-year-old cristopher sanchez died after crashing along simpkins and lake wheeler road in southern wake county. wncn's emma wright where from the scene with the latest. >> reporter: troopers say sanchez was driving very fast when he lost control out of the car. they say he served back and forth across simpkins road a few times. his truck ended up in the trees over there. they say he wasn't wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the car. his truck ended up on that side of the road and his body on this side of the road over here. this accident happened around 7:00 this morning. it kept simpkins road shut down until about 9:30 while troopers investigated and the tow truck company picked up the pieces of the truck. pieces were scattered all over the road a few hundred feet in either direction. i talked with neighbors who live nearby where the accident happened.

he says he wasn't surprised to see another accident in this area. he says people often drive faster than 35 miles per hour which is the posted speed limit. >> it sounded like a big boom outside. i have security camera inside the house. you looked at it. i saw the light. i went outside. by the time i went out it was like the fire truck was here first thing and we see that thing. >> you can't put speed bumps on main road. and they're not going to follow the 35 speed limit. it's just unfortunate. it's unfortunate that he is 18 years old and lost his life this morning. >> reporter: highway patrol says sanchez was a mile from his house when he was killed in this accident. the folks who live along this road here say they hope other drivers who drive frequently through here will see this as a reminder and slow down. reporting live in wake county,

a ralleigh woman in the hospital this morning after a house fire in the five points area. she suffered serious burn injuries at the home on hanover street. a water main break in wake forest. crews repairing the same waterline that broke yesterday on durham road. water service was restored around 7:30 this morning. the armed occupation of a federal reserve in oregon continues this morning after a deadly shoot-out with federal agents. protesters lavoy finicum told news he would rather be killed than arrested. last night he was killed. police say the incident started during a traffic stop and that finicum and another man refused it surrender so protesters believe it's only a matter of time before federal agents move in. >> now that there is no women

>> reporter: bernie sanders tells voters turnout makes the difference. >> if we have a large voter turnout, we will win and we'll win big. >> reporter: he is meeting privately with president obama at the white house today. tracie potts, nbc news washington. >> thanks a lot. a fayetteville man accused of sexual assault remains behind bars on a bond totaling over $1 million. investigators say devonte williams attacked the same woman twice in her home last month. 23-year-old williams is charged with rape, kidnapping, and intimidating a witness. >> what did he say to her? he was trying to get her to drop the charges and assaulted her and threatened her and then she was able to kind of talk her way out of it to make him leave the area and that's when the police were already on the way. >> police say the victim knew williams. detectives say they solved a sexual assault investigation that happened last november in a fayetteville state university dorm room. jonathan o'brien jones has

pitt county authorities. he is charged with multiple counts the of sexual offense and battery. still no cause of death for a durham county inmate found dead in his cell last week. now the family of matt duquesne are demanding answers. speaking only to wncn, relatives accuse jail staff of ignoring his pleas for help. he this say he suffered from epilepsy and diabetes was not given proper amounts of his medication. >> if he would have had his medicine, he would still be here today. >> mccain is one of 11 inmates to die at the jail since 2000. meantime, the sheriff announced ongoing state and local investigations into the matter. the county health department is also looking into mccain's care you. the tennessee marine recruiter hurt in a mass shooting attack last summer has been awarded the purple heart. he suffered a leg injury. four marines and a sailor were killed in the attack. the gunman was killed by police. to the midwest.

or visit your24info.com. welcome back. in grenada authorities are trying to figure out the motive linked to the violent death of an atlanta tourist. police say jessica kolker was attacked by a machete-wielding man saturday afternoon. her body was discovered by her husband. her husband told the police he fought with the man, managed to get away and call for help. police are questioning a suspect right now. well, the reward jumps up for three dangerous inmates who escaped from a southern california jail. police are offering $50,000 for each man captured.

criticism over the way the fugitives were housed. they are charged with offenses ranging from attempted murder to kidnapping and torture. the orange county district attorney lashed out the department saying they should have been housed in isolation. the flint water crisis is a nightmare for citizens and state leaders in michigan. a new federal lawsuit filed this morning asking a federal judge to order the state and city to replace all lead pipes in flint. this comes as healthcare workers conduct exams on children for lead exposure. the governor, who is under fire over this crisis, held a private meeting with the president of the naacp and flint mayor karen weaver. >> his tone was one of remorse, regret, and i took that to be genuine. i think the residents and citizens of flint will take the remorse of government to be genuine when they see quality,

sports car will be built on a heartwarming reunion between a north carolina veteran and his beloved account. robert kanell lost his cat while stationed at cherry point. his wife says the cat disappeared looking for connell while he was deployed overseas. since then they moved up to north dakota, then the cat turned up and was taken in by craven animal service. hemi was supposed to fly to his new home last week. the weather delayed the flight. that's when kanell decided to drive 4,000 miles to bring hemi home himself. >> i got some good news for you, hemi. you got a place lined up for two months. we are gonna have a nice big yard. you ready to go home? you ready to go home? >> that's sweet. kanell says hemi so much more than a pet. he says the cat is like a person who could listen to some of his deepest thoughts as he struggled

central portions of vance county. henderson a few showers. also towards wake forest just a few light showers right now. so let's talk about your hourly forecast. you'll notice where these temperatures are, i am expecting them to hold steady. climbing into the upper 40s at lunchtime. holding there through 2:00. then we see the temperatures decline a little earlier than what we normally see. 43 by 6 p.m. 40 at 8:00. you will notice the chance for rain is also going to diminish as we head through the day. so this is what we're looking at. cold front actually sliding over central north carolina. that's why some of us a little colder than others. you will notice high pressure back to our west. that doesn't move into control our weather until friday. but once it does, it's going to bring beautiful weather for friday and the weekend ahead. so just hold tight. we will get through these clouds and showers and see some sunshine at the appropriate times. but cloudy skies this afternoon. most of us on the dry side. could see still lingering shower or two around the sand hills for the evening drive home. overnight tonight we are going
