big mistake? we begin in durham where duke university has partially lifted a ban on sorority activities. this comes after the university banned all activities after a new sorority member was hospitalized in an alcohol- related incident. students are shocked but not surprised. >> it's really scary. i mean, i don't know, as a sorority member myself i get nervous for new members or anyone ever in those positions. >> a girl was collapsed there and dressed only this a bra and underpants, on her face with her arms back like this. >> the student in question was listed in critical condition. after meeting with administrators and sorority leaders duke lifted a complete ban last night. sororities are supposed to conduct study breaks, sisterhood events, chapter meetings and philanthropy as well as community service activities. the debate and the

raleigh. that is where we find emma wright live with this story. emma? >> reporter: this career fair just kicked off around 11:00, check this out. we have tons of people coming through. we had people lined up for about the past hour waiting for this to open. we're up here in the towers of carter-finley stadium, pretty cool. they've got booths lined all up and down here. they say they have about 45 booths in the whole place. they say they are expecting 400 to 500 people throughout this morning and this afternoon. i talked with the company that puts this on, recruit military, earlier. they say they always get a good turnout in raleigh because we have such a large military population in the central north carolina and they say not only is the turnout at this job fair good, they say the success rate is as well. they say they added up the

year and they say a majority of them now have jobs >> as the years have come and gone companies have started to realize these are insanely good candidates. these are natural leaders. they just fit so perfectly into any corporate culture. so they are just really good job candidates. they outperform their peers in many cases. it just makes good business sense for the most part at this point. >> reporter: the concept of this job fair is pretty simple. they say if you're a veteran or military spouse just come on down, maybe put on your sunday best or a suit if you have one. go up and down and talk to the companies that you're interested in, they say if you want to come out, you want to be sure you bring an updated resume, this career fair runs from now until 3:00 this afternoon here at the towers at carter-finley stadium. reporting live in raleigh, emma wright, wncn news. right now a slightly gloomy

injured in a gun battle wednesday after israel rodriguez was firing on the troopers that were trying to stop him. troopers returned fire killing rodriguez. fields is recovering from gunshot wounds to the leg and stomach area. he were wearing a bulletproof vest thankfully at the time of the shooting. a georgia state trooper recovering after being shot twice during an altercation, or shooting yesterday. we'll tell you more about this later. burns, oregon, federal agents and oregon state police make three more arrests linked to the ongoing armed occupation of federal wildlife refuge. the fbi says the men, one from georgia turned themselves in at a checkpoint near the refuge. this comes after one protester was killed, another wounded in a shootout tuesday night. ammon bundy, the leader, who is now in custody urging his followers to stand down. >> let us take this fight from

rifle suddenly the nation honors seven brave crew members who lost their lives 30 years ago today when the space shuttle challenger exploded shortly after takeoff in cape canaveral, florida. among the tributes, nasa held a wreath-laying ceremony this morning at arlington national cemetery. the crew includes seven, including alison onazuka, judith resnick, craig jarvis, rob mcnair and school teacher christa mcauliffe. nasa also honoring the crew of apollo 1, they died in a fire in 1967.

satellite and radar composite. over the past few hours we watched these showers now start to pull out of south carolina and move into, southern portions of north carolina. they are starting to fall now across cumberland county, sampson county, even hoke county. the areas that actually saw rain already today. they saw the showers early this morning, that is where it is falling again. around spring lake towards fayetteville. raeford seeing a few showers but looks like the showers starting to taper off for you. the showers are going to continue as we head throughout the afternoon. keep the umbrella nearby, even if you have not seen rain so far today because i think there's the chance for showers in wake county. 42 our temperature at noon. 44 at 2:00. our high this afternoon 46. those rain chances steadily climbing for us as we head throughout the afternoon. they will stay heightened around 6:00. that drive home may take a little longer because of rain, 42 at 6:00. 39 by 8:00 p.m. this evening. we're talking about that system down across central portions of florida.

front extends from florida all the way out into the atlantic ocean. that is where we're watching this area of low pressure arrive later this afternoon. that is providing us that chance for some afternoon showers. we'll time out the showers, they are here around 2:00. mainly along our easternmost communities and towards the coast. 6:00 p.m. same situation. these though could be impacting areas from the triangle and east. if you're further west, say durham, orange county, you could easily stay dry. then dry weather will spread all across the area overnight. skies are going to clear quickly. tomorrow morning it will be cold because of the clear skies but by tomorrow afternoon that sunshine is going to warm us up. the warming trend will just keep on coming as we head throughout the coming days. 51 tomorrow. 55ur if you think that is warm, look at monday, 66 our afternoon high as we start next workweek. right now we're far from that mark. 41 in raleigh.
