animal shelter today. good evening, i'm sean maroney. >> and i'm sharon tazewell. wncn's david hurst back at that shelter tonight with more reaction from the rescue group and a former shelter worker. david? >> reporter: sharon, sean, just minutes ago the last truck of the day left with the animals and they'll be baccarat here tomorrow to collect the remain -- back out here tomorrow to collect the remaining 600 animals rescued from the shelter. we're told be a woman who works here that she would have never imagined something like this and she claims the animal shelter took care of its animals and made possible hundreds of adoptions. >> never seen any cruelty this those animals. >> reporter: mar advertise norris has been volunteering at the haven animal shelter for more than two years. >> i was in absolute shock. >> reporter: she couldn't believe what she was seeing when she watched the news wednesday night. >> to me it's a shelter that has care and the cost of the animals. and not the -- way they're being portrayed. >> reporter: investigators

the shelter wednesday morning after complaints from neighbors and other agencies. they found # hundred animals -- 600 animals in need of care and were neglected. they also found 15 dogs that had been burr id at the sheller. >> the conditions we're seeing here didn't happen overnight. this is long-term neglect. >> reporter: the property owner steven and linda spear now face multiple counts of animal cruelty. norris says the owners took them in because they didn't want to abonn don them -- abandon them. she never witnessed any signs of neglect. >> just injustice because they have put heart and soul into that place. >> reporter: meanwhile the focus now shifting to giving the animals treatment so they can be adopted down the road. >> they came here with a promise of being adopted into a loving home and we intend to fulfill that. >> reporter: from here, the panels will be taken to a --

shelter where they'll be given a thorough medical examination and treatment and many of you have asked when these animals would be available for adoption. we're told once they make it through that examination and treatment, then they should be available for adoption. that's expected to take several weeks. reporting live tonight in hope county, david hurst, wncn news now. a similar story in willson county. looking for this couple jimmy and patricia williams. they found 11-degree dogs and -- dead dogs and nine others roaming. they're accused of abonn donning the home. -- abandoning home. anyone with information is asked to call police. tonight this bank manager is being hailed a hero for actions he took to stop a would- be robber at that bank. this tells the story really. police in zebulon responded to the pnc around 9:30 this morning, the suspect tried to get in a back door wearing a mask and hoodie. police say the branch manager saw the person walking around the building and held the door closed.

pledge to the e. r. tuesday in critical condition. duke won't name the sorority or the victim but wncn has learned the party went down inside a dorm room at randolph hall on east campus. wncn was the first to obtain a copy of the campus police report calling this a case of underaged drinking after no comments from duke -- i tried to get answers from students on sorority row. are you guys concerned about her? >> oh of course, yeah. >> reporter: could you talk to us about what happened? >> yep. >> reporter: shortly after that exchange, a duke spokesman told us to leave campus. >> there's a lot of steps to be taken to make sure it doesn't happen again. >> reporter: while the circumstances rounding is this -- surrounding this latest incident are unclear, we did advocates robert and pam champion. who lost their son in a hazing ritual involving the famu marching band. they told my by phone duke must do more than order a temporary ban on sorority activities. >> this tells me is the university is not taking it

this time, winter storm warnings and nothing like that now. it is chilly out there. you see what looks like some wet roadways at least 440 was and a little light rain, 43 degrees. but that's what we've to deal with just some rain. and now the triangle not dealing with any of the rain, 43 degrees it's dropped to 37 in roxboro. i don't think any rain tonight roxboro or probably south hill, virginia. but watching us south and east of the triangle little bits of rain and everything sliding to the easted a it moves to the -- east as it moves to the northeast. then things should dry out. here's a review of the sat radar over the last 12 hours. we have low pressure coming off the coast of florida but it's going to move away unlike last week's storm that went right up the east coast. so things will improve. temperatures tonight will hang in the low 40s. rain chances mainly southeast of the triangle and then overnight tonight, clearing and a little colder down to near freezing in spots tomorrow morning. but boy, wait until you see the weekend forecast. i've got a real nice one.

makes, you won't believe it. guys? >> bill thank you. north carolina teachers could see pay raises as high as 10% this year. lawmakers met today to discuss the issue. state school superintendent june atkinson says a 10% raise would be a necessary investment to keep teachers in north carolina. but it's being met with opposition. >> i want our teachers to get a 10% raise. i understand the general assembly has a very huge challenge in balancing the budget. >> with all due respect i don't think that's a realistic number. we certainly -- we would like to do that right? but we can't afford that. we want to do what we can. >> other superintendents from the state were at the meeting today and some saying the situation is so dire they have openings now applicants -- but no applicants. governor mccrory's campaign says it raised $2.6 million in the second half of the year

but if you're watching us down through smithfield and clinton and goldsboro there's still a chance of a little bit of rain during the evening hours. you can kind of see things are moving to the northeast but everything is trying to clear out to the east. so about the only rain that will keep an eye on is the stuff down in pinehurst that might move up blue stuff around smithfield and wilson is very light and just going to push to the northeast. so the big picture will show that rain moving up. it's all in response to a low pressure system which this time is just going to move straight out to sea. and move away from us, last week we had low and cold air and it came right over us and that's why we had the winter storm. none of that for us now. as a matter of fact, just a 30% chance, mainly southeast of the triangle at 9:00. i should taper that down to a 20% chance by midnight and just completely ended after midnight. because look at this. the skies will clear out and maybe a patch or two of fog in the morning but nothing to write home about. temperatures will flip into the mid- to lower 30s. i have a low of 34 and then

i added a breezy here because we're going to have winds 10 to 15. i put. windchills in the afternoon -- windchills in the afternoon, not too bad but lower 40s is what it will feel like with the high tomorrow of 9 degrees. it is -- 49 degrees. it's almost the weekend and amiable making plans saturday and -- you might be making plans saturday and sunday at the beaches. sunny and 60 on saturday. sunny and 65 on sunday. now a lot of folks ski season. ski season? and you know last week we couldn't get anywhere. check this out. good conditions to ski and good beautiful weather. 49 and sunny on saturday. they can make some snow at night with the low of 26 saturday morning. a 53 on sunday with mostly sunny skies. here's what's happening the rain is moving to the east with that low pressure system. tomorrow, the iso bars are up there. a trough of low pressure moves through that will just switch the winds to the northwest. and it will be nice and sunny. for saturday morning, it will be really cold in the 20s but there won't go any wind. it will be calm and on the backside of that high and here comes some springtime
