was hit by a car last night. and it happened just after 11:30 on inden avenue off -- off indiana avenue off highway 211. it started when the driver turned around to try to avoid the checkpoint. the driver jumped out and fled. he was hit by a car. the times reports that the man was flown to unc with non-life threatening injuries. it is not known how many charges he might face. a missing mother and two children from florida have been found in cumberland county. an unknown person dropped off 21-year-old maria lopez and they are 12-year-old and her four-year-old in wade. they were report missing from florida last week. >> the florida law enforcement officers believe them to be with 24 24-year-old edward gomez. he is wanted for a shooting.

the person that insulted a unc student. the area is normally safe. here's more from chapel hill. >> it made me think and question the safety of the area. >> it was concerning and unexpected. >> reporter: it happened just after 2:00 friday morning and north street, close to martin luther king, jr. boulevard. the police tell us that the student fought back and that the suspect took off. no weapon was reported and it is unclear what he was after. >> if that were me, would like to think that is what i would do too. you never know. >> reporter: the students learned of the assault through a campus-wide e mile friday afternoon. this is -- e-mail friday afternoon. in november, a female student was installmented at the james resident hall and a week later there was an attempted kidnapping. a man tried to force a woman into his car near unc's campus.

and now four of them are safe. before the rescue, they lived on food sent down in small passageways. hundreds of animals rescued from a hope county shelter are being cared for and prepared for adoption. they are calling one of the largest animal rescues in history. david hurst got a look of the shelter. >> reporter: hundreds of animals being saved in one of the largest rescue operations in history are now in a temporary home in a near warehouse. they started removing the animals wednesday morning from this so-called safe shelter after the authorities served a search warrant after numerous complaints. hundreds of animals showed neglect and in desperate in need of care. most of the animals will be taken to this shelter and get a thorough examination and receive treatment.

good saturday morning, i'm kristin ketchell. we're off to a chilly but a clear start around the area. right now, you're taking a live look from our tower tower camera and the skies are getting brighter at sunrise. and the temperatures are a little cold. but the skies are clear. and nothing popping up on the satellite or the radar. and that is going to be the case through today, tomorrow and the start of this upcoming week. a beautiful stretch of weather coming our way. what a difference a week makes. this time last weekend, we were talking about snow and sleet and ice. so a huge change out there today. 28 degrees is the current temperature in raleigh. it is 30 in durham, 28 in henderson and louisburg and clayton. 29 in fayetteville and 23 in sanford and south hill, virginia. and those are the cold spots in the region this morning. we'll see the temperatures warming up quickly.
