good evening, i'm maggie newland. we're following breaking news in north raleigh. crews are on the scene of a house fire at white chapel way in the sutten estates neighborhood. you can see several units are on the scene. they responded just before 6:00. fire officials tell us it started in the kitchen and caused heavy smoke damage to the home. there are no reports of injuries. we'll bring you more details. breaking news out of denver colorado, one person is dead and several others injured after a shooting at a bike expo there. police say the gunfire erupted about the same time a stabbing took place. no word on how many people were hurt or their conditions. police say there are several officers investigating both in and outside the coliseum. >> during the disturbance, there were shots fired and at least one stabbing. we do have one deceased party and multiple other victims. at this time, we do not have anyone in custody.

have one person in custody for questioning, at this point, no arrests have been made. back here at home, durham police say they have people in custody believed to be connected to a shoot out that left a man dead nearly two weeks ago. police say the men, 18-year-old jesus, and 21-year-old garcia shot and killed jose rodriguez two weeks ago. this was the scene on january 16th. police say they shot the 25- year-old and left the scene with 25-year-old elizabeth espana. earlier this week deputies pulled over the group in wake county saying they were connected to a separate home break-in. that's when they were linked to the murder case. an update to a story we first brought you as breaking news on wncn today. officials say the man who died in an early morning house fire in smithfield was deaf. crews responded to the home on fifth street before 5:00 this morning.

smithfield police department. no word tonight on what caused that fire. right now, family, friends, and community leaders are in durham calling for action from immigration officials. they're concerned about four north carolina teens who they say are being held for possible deportation. wncn's bo minnick is live in durham where that vigil is just getting under way. bo? >> reporter: that vigil is getting started inside of grace baptist church behind me on hardy street in durham. the people inside say they're calling on immigration and customs enforcement officials to stop the deportation proceedings on those four teen ens who are here from central america. one of those teens is from durham. he's a student at river side high school, his name is wildon acosta. he's 19 years old. the other teens, two from charlotte and one from greenville.

how this situation has impacked them. >> we have a lot of friends that don't want to send their kids to school because who knows what will happen? who knows if they'll come back from school or their parents. so there's a lot of fear. i don't think that's right for a family or a person. [ foreign language ]. >> reporter: and that was dilcia acosta. she says she's afraid for her son being deported. those close to families all say there's also concern about fear of gang violence back in their native country. so not only is this a situation about the fear of deportation. they're also concerned if they did go back to their native countries, they could possibly be harmed. we reached out today to ice to get a statement. we haven't heard back from them.

we'll bring you coverage on air and online. live in durham, bo minnick, wncn news now. in fayetteville police are looking for the person responsible for shooting three people at a party. it happened before 4:00 this morning. police were on scene for several hours looking for clues. all three victims went to the hospital. they're expected to recover. anyone with information is asked to call police. the search for the two remaining escaped inmates in california is over. a tip led investigators to both men in san francisco. a woman saw a van that looked like the one deputies say the two men stole. a third inmate who escaped surrendered yesterday. turning to politics now, two days left until the iowa caucuses and the first actual voting in the race for the white house. republican donald trump and democratic hillary clinton have small leads in the latest poles but the races are close. and the campaigning is intense. steve handelsman has the latest from iowa. >> reporter: ted cruz today at a rally in aims iowa with time

it's nice and sunniment clear now, 47 degrees outside. let's see what's going on elsewhere. 46 in pinehurst. 50 in goldsboro and clinton. contrast that with 44 in south hill virginia. 45 in roanoke rapids. we'll pull out showing you things are very quiet here. high pressure is floating by. i'll put the high here now as we get that southerly flow today. it's going to back off more tomorrow and bring in warmer air. as temperatures will be in the 60s. so a check of your forecast for this evening if you're heading out. current temperature, 47. a couple degrees down at 8:00 at 45. and then we'll be at 44 9:00 and 10:00, and 42 by midnight. over night tonight, not as cold as it was this morning. the low is 26. quite a change here. no freezing temperatures. 37 in the triangle. 38 in fayetteville. 36 in roanoke rapids. some pesky ice and snow. i have some outside my house.

degrees on this last saturday in january. that's not too bad. you know the normal high is 52. today by the way, if you're interested. we got up to 56 degrees. 56 degrees above average. and it felt pretty good this afternoon. but it's even going to be warmer tomorrow. speaking of tomorrow, what about the rays of sunshine for your sunday? nine. i'm going to keep it nine. there will be clouds late in the ash. but on average, most of the day will be nice and clear. just a couple harmless little clouds. it'll be nice and sunny out there. speaking of harmless, all the readers are working but they're spinning their wheels and not finding anything. no precipitation around. skies are clear. we'll see that through tonight. let's talk temperatures. the blue starting to over take the green. the blues representing the 40s. we'll get darker blues in here over night. you'll see that in a moment with 30s. but all in all, not bad. 46 in durham. up 85, 44 in south hill virginia. 50 in goldsboro and clinton.

that's a little chill. and 45 in pinehurst. let's follow the temperatures from now through the over night hours. and you can see the darker blues move in as we'll drop into the 30s. but we should stay above freezing. we should stay above freezing as we head into the over night hours into tomorrow morning. so as we look at the hourly forecast, 9:00, i've got 44 degrees. midnight, 42. and then the middle of the night, down into the low 40s to upper 30s by 6:00 a.m., it'll be 38 degrees. i have the low of 37 as we showed you earlier in the news cast. after that 37, we're 10 degrees warmer at 9:00. nice sunny skies, 47. 61 at noon. 3:00, 66. maybe a couple high, thin clouds late in the afternoon, but in general, sunny skies tomorrow in raleigh. 66 durham. 66 in fayetteville. where you did get to 60 today. you'll get to near 70 tomorrow. i have a high of 69 degrees. our next weather maker is tuesday night really into wednesday.

we could have a couple early showers tuesday night. but wednesday we'll see the showers. the air's going to stay mild ahead of a cold front. so it'll be in the form of showers. don't worry about any wintery precipitation. as a matter of fact, we might hear maybe a little isolated thunder. that's a slight risk. but it's out there. because we will be unseasonably warm. here's what will happen the next couple days. i'm standing in front of the high that continues to back off. but it's pumping in southwesterly breezes. high thin clouds late tomorrow afternoon. partly cloudy skies tomorrow night. temperatures will be 10 degrees warmer by monday morning when you head back to work or school. we have this little frontal system trying to squeeze out showers in the mountains. it will drop through here and tuesday. and when it does, that will try the northeast. as it does, it will obviously be cooler and could be much cooler if the front goes further to the south, i'm going to keep dividing the state in

temperature in the low 60s on tuesday. but see that warm front. that's why it will warm and be mild on wednesday. when we get the showers with the possibility of thunder before a stronger cold front comes through late wednesday. so sunny and mild tomorrow in the sand hills, 68 lillington. 68 in goldsboro. we head to the triangle, we're in the mid 60s. and even the mid 60s along the virginia border area. 65 in henderson. southwest winds, 8 to 15 miles per hour. so we'll explore your sunday right now, you see the sunshine up there. chilly but not freezing. at 8:00, bright and dry at noon, kept the old bucket and scrub brush out there. great day to get outside and maybe wash the salt off the car tomorrow. ground hog, there he is, monday, 68 degrees. the ground hog kind of got my attention. 68 degrees. partly sunny. quite mild. 47 for the low. on tuesday, getting a little cloudier, should stay dry, there's that cooler air. 61 degrees.
