your faithful prayers and gifts. hey, good morning, everybody, it is sunday january 31st, 2016. here's a live look over the capitol city on the final day of january. good morning and thanks for watching the weekend edition. i'm justin gonzalez, alongside christen katchell. >> yesterday was nice, it's going to be even nicer. it's not to be feeling like it because temperatures are going to be in the 60s. we ended yesterday at about 56 degrees. we'll add about 10 degrees to that today. our satellite and radar all clear and dry this morning. nothing to worry about as far as wet weather and temperatures right now, not quite as cold as yesterday. it's 40 degrees in raleigh, 48 in durham, 36 in rocky mount, 36 raeford.

pressure starting to build in, it's gradually sliding offshore, but it's pumping in warm air out of the south so we can expect another sunny and warm day across the area with once again temperatures warming up into the 60s. so we'll add about 10 degrees to this number. we're looking at a high temperature of 66 degrees after a start of 40. temperatures are going to stay in the 60s through tomorrow, tuesday and possible wednesday before we see cooler air return. i'll be back in a few minutes, mike. to news now we know more about a fatal fire brought you as breaking news. the men who died on the second floor of this home in smith field was deaf. the house is located next to the smith field police department. the cause of the fire and the cause of death remain under investigation at this hour. a virginia tech student athlete is under arrest this morning and charged with killing

her body was found in the state of north carolina. yesterday, investigators found the body of this young woman, nicole lovell, northwest of winston salem. david eisenhower is facing charges of murder, and investigators have not said how the two knew each other. >> this investigation is far from over as we continue to process multiple evidence related to this crime. the focus of this investigation is to now reconstruct the timeline leading up to nicole's tragic death. >> last night you see it here, crowds in virginia gathered to remember the 13-year-old. the goal of the community now is to gather around lovell's answer. tom ross is heading down the

we're talking highs in . welcome back in the weather center with our meteorologist, and i tell you what i'm loving this forecast. >> it's been such a nice stretch of weather and it's been a huge change. last weekend we're dealing with snow and ice. this time last sunday. so now complete opposite. temperatures actually feeling a lot more like spring. our satellite and radar completely dry, completely quiet so nothing to worry about as far as any kind of wet weather goes, and temperatures this morning are much warmer than we were at

it's currently 40 degrees in raleigh. 38 degrees in durham. it's 34 in roxboro, and 36 in clinton and fayetteville. we have this area of high pressure that began building in towards the week, now it's sliding offshore. we can expect another sunny and warm day with temperatures actually about 10 degrees warmer than we ended the day yesterday. if you enjoyed yesterday, we have another treat heading your way today. temperatures right around 42 degrees at 8 p.m. 59 degrees at lunchtime. our high temperatures topping out around 66, that's 14 degrees above normal for this time of year falling to about 60 degrees by 6 p.m. the warm weather continues through your monday. we're even warmer as we start the week. i'll have your complete forecast coming numb just a few minutes, mike. >> i know who will be heading to the park today, me and my 3-year-old ty. he's already asking. thanks, kristen. as the president works to crack down on gun sales across the country, facebook says they want to do their part.

the cause of death remain in investigation. one person was shot at north gate mall. right now police do not have any suspects in custody. also in durham, sheriff's deputies say a robbery led to a series of wrecks yesterday afternoon. investigators say this man 46-year-old willy daniel grabbed the woman's purse, and tossed an 82-year-old woman from that truck, stole that truck, and caused three separate wrecks before being apprehended. social media site facebook wants to stop private selling of guns, and the change isn't sitting so well. >> they choose rules we want to abide by. most you can definitely see the fear and kind of the anger coming out with them being restricted on being able to buy and sell what they choose and what they please. >> licensed gun retailers can still promote their businesses

them to accept orders on the social media site. a durham clothing company is set to open its first brick and mortar store next month thanks to a very successful kick starter campaign. i took a look at run away and it's about what's next. >> it's about running from conformity and convention. >> started a few years ago by a couple of childhood friends in durham, it's a lifestyle brand and also much more than that. >> we're sort of occurators of art, fashion, music here in durham and beyond. >> most of the design comes from the artwork of the company's founder and artist gabriel. >> being able to rep the city i grew up in, i went to durham public schools in a creative artistic sense of it has been huge for me. >> reporter: the run away brand is known for its durm, or durm campaign.

going to be the case through tomorrow and even into tuesday, as well. our next chance for rain holding off until wednesday of this week. temperatures this morning, not quite as cold as we were yesterday. it's 40 degrees in raleigh, 38 degrees right now it in durham, 43 in lewisburg, 36 in rocky mount, 37 in goldsboro, 36 degrees is your court temperatures in fayetteville. and temperatures will be rising pretty quickly through this morning and into this afternoon. a lot of sunshine on the way again today, we're up to 50 degrees by 10:00, 59 degrees by lunchtime, 63 by 2:00, our high temperatures topping out around 66 degrees. we may have a few high, thin clouds rolling through in the day. a sunny and warm afternoon on the way. we're running about 14 degrees above average today. and that is thanks to this system of high pressure that began building in towards the end of last week. it is now sliding offshore and since highs rotate clockwise wise, that's pushing in this warm air to the south.

it feels a lot like spring and the last day of january -- that's right, february starts tomorrow -- and we are starting off on a very, very warm note here. so, tomorrow, actually the warmest day of the entire week. we have a cold front pushing in from the northwest. ahead of it, temperatures are warm with the flow out of the south. highs today will be around 66 degrees. tomorrow, many of us pushing 70. mainly overnight monday and into the morning tuesday, so by tuesday, that front sags to the south. we've got more clouds rolling in on tuesday. temperatures still warm so we're only cooling off a few degrees behind this cold front and another cold front pushes in on wednesday. that's the game changer. it is much more powerful and will bring us a little bit of wet weather on wednesday, but until then, things are dry, mostly sunny and pretty warm around the area. today expect a sunny, warm, and breezy afternoon.

it's january 31st and we're talking about temperatures near 70, folks. 69 degrees at 4:00, and fort bragg and fayetteville, and 68 in dunn and lillington. 67 degrees in sanford. we're looking at highs around 68 in goldsboro and wilson. 67 in smith field and rocky mount, 66 degrees today in roanoke rapids, and temperatures in the mid-to-lower 60s around the triangle, 66 degrees in raleigh and cary, 65 in durham and chapel hill, and along the virginia border, 65 in henderson and roxboro. tonight, temperatures fall to 47 degrees, just a few clouds rolling through overnight. temperatures staying mild with those southwesterly winds at 6 to 8 miles an hour. we're staying in the 40s tonight. tomorrow, 68 degrees, mostly sunny. a really nice start to the week and then tuesday we get a little bit cooler behind that dry cold front tuesday is ground hog day so we'll find out if he seeing his shadow, which will determine how much winter we have left around the area. but towards the end of the week

a little bit more winter-like. 67 degrees, on wednesday, that next cold front brings us some rain on wednesday, and also some cooler temperatures for the end of the week. we're looking at highs back in the 50s on thursday, friday, and saturday, we're in the upper 40s but with the exception of that rain moving in on wednesday, we're actually dry through most of the week and that 401(k) looks pretty fantastic at least through tuesday and the next few days. >> in and when you made a good point at the weather center, just not tool ago we had that snow and ice. it was pretty miserable. >> there's some snow piles in some spots. i don't think they're going to last very long, a lot of it going to melt the next couple days. enjoy the sunshine while we've got it. >> we'll soak it in. 6:22. next in sports, she may be the oldest carolina panthers fan and after the break she tells us

>> we're topping the forecast. >> temperatures outside already warmer than this time yesterday and we're taking another live look because this is such a beautiful shot to see in the morning. from the wncn tower looking towards the east, first glimpses of the skies getting a little bit brighter ahead of sunrise, shaping up to be a really nice day for us here. our satellite and radar, it's clear this morning. we may see just a few high and thin clouds moving in later today otherwise we're looking at sunshine. it's 39 in lewisburg, 37 in henderson, 33 in roanoke rapids, 36 in fayetteville. we've got this big area of high pressure sliding just off to the east here, that's going to bring in that really warm air out of the south so temperatures today are going to be about 10 degrees warmer than yesterday. expect another sunny and warm day for our sunday. a cool start to the day leads to a warm end though. sunny skies by lunchtime,

sheriff's deputies say a robbery led to a series of wrecks. investigators say 46-year-old willy daniel grabbed a woman's purse, tossed an 82-year-old lady from her truck, stole that truck, then sped away from deputies. he then caused three wrecks before being apprehended. fortunately, no one was seriously hurt in this one or those crashes but a car went to the hospital for observation. dozens of family members attended a vigil for four north carolina teens being held by immigration officials. wncn's beau minnick has their story. >> reporter: inside a house of worship, tears are being shed. a mom not sure if her son will be coming home. >> there's too much pain right now. >> reporter: inside grace

community paid one of their own, 19-year-old willdon acosta is in the custody of i c.e. officials. he's an avid soccer fan and senior at durham's riverside high school. >> he was dreaming about becoming an engineer. >> family and friends say acosta is one of four north carolina teens detained by immigration officials this week. he came to america from honduras in 2014. >> [ speaking spanish ] >> his mom is scared and could be the victim of gang violence if he goes back to honduras. the vigil is for all four of the teens. several of acosta's teachers from riverside were there to show their support. >> not many of us are prepared with what to tell our students. we thought coming to school was

>> one fled on foot but didn't get far. >> i'm told it was a short foot chase. >> police found two hiding inside the van. >> there were some 380 rounds found but no weapon. >> it's the end of a statewide police dragnet involving hundreds of officers when duong showed up at a body shop leads than three miles from where he escaped. >> she showed up and tell my wife he wanted to turn himself in. >> the investigation continued to center on naeri as the possible mastermind. police say despite speaking english, he enrolled as english as a second language class. the teacher arrested thursday being held on suspicion she provided maps showing images of the rooftop that may have helped the men escape. >> we don't have any information to determine it was romantic, but it was much more personal than it should have been.

tower camera in north raleigh looking towards the east. the sky is lighting up beautiful colors this morning ahead of sunrise, which is about 7:17 this morning. lots of blue sky and clear sky out there right now, and we will see clear skies sticking with us throughout the entire day today. nothing popping up on satellite and radar. 38 degrees in lewisburg and henderson and we have this big area of high pressure sitting off to the east today bringing up this really warm air out of the south here so we can expect another warm and sunny day around the area with temperatures today about 10 degrees warmer than we actually were yesterday. so we're talking high temperatures well into the 60s. after a cool start to the morning, the sunshine will warm us up quickly looking at 59 degrees at lunchtime, 66 our high temperatures, by about 3:00 this afternoon, skies stay

wncn tower camera. you can see the skies getting a little bit brighter. ahead of sunrise, which is 7:17 a.m. our satellite and radar, completely clear and quiet. nothing to worry about as far as wet weather today, not really going to see very many clouds out there. it's shaping up to be a fantastic sunday here. it's 40 degrees in raleigh, 38 in dur am a, it's 33 in siler city, 37 in lillington and clinton, 36 degrees in fayetteville, and rocky mount, 35 degrees in henderson. temperatures this afternoon, they're warming up fast under those bright and sunny skies so we'll start at 8 a.m. around 42 degrees, up to 50 by 10. 59 by noon, 66 our high temperature by 4:00 this afternoon and a few high and thin clouds likely, a gorgeous day on the way. we had this area of high pressure that's pumping in the warm air out of the south meaning we've got another warm day feeling like spring with highs in the mid-to-upper 60s.

our west of the day. week ahead of this next cold front, that'll move into the area late monday night into early tuesday. so highs today will be in the mid-60s by tomorrow, we're talking high temperatures in the upper 60s to even near 70 degrees for some of us. then this cold front moves in, that's going to cool us off just a bit for tuesday. high temperatures still right around 60 degrees on tuesday. more clouds and we're still warm so that cold front actually coming through dry really not going to notice much of a differences that front moves in, a much more powerful front moves in on wednesday and that's going to bring a chance for some wet weather and also cooler weather as we head into the end of this week. so your forecast for today expect a lot of sunshine, warm and breezy this afternoon around the sandhills we're near 70. 69 degrees at fort bragg in fayetteville, 68 degrees raeford and pinehurst, 67 in sanford.

looking to be around 68 degrees, goldsboro and smithon. 67 in rocky mount, and roanoke rapids. durham, 65. 65 in chapel hill, raleigh and lewisburg, and 64 in south hill, virginia. we're looking at a few clouds moving in. 47 degrees, winds out of the southwest still blowing at about 606 to 8 miles an hour and our seven-day -- 6 to 8 miles an hour and our temperatures is staying really warm, 66 turns into 68 tomorrow and we're starting in the mid-and-upper 40s. not a relatively cold morning. we've got warmer weather moving in for the next several days. the first day of february is tomorrow. we're talking about highs near 70s about 15 degrees above normal. tuesday for ground hog day, high temperatures around 61 and we will fine out if the ground hog
