we've got a lot going on right now as we run into a major task for candidates running for president. good morning to you at home as well. we're starting off with this, a beautiful site, blue skies, the green grass rewind a week and this was so it's really -- i'm really enjoying the change that we've this morning we're dealing with a lot of sunshine, however, i he need to point out this, this broken line of showers, a lot of rain across the central portion of west virginia that extending back through kentucky, tennessee, that's heading in our direction. i do think there will be the chance for a few showers but mainly after sunset this evening. so let's focus on this warm up, 64 right now, about 11 degrees warmer than

now, let's take a look at the democrats. they also caucus in a more public way by dividing themselves into group each one supporting a different candidate. any candidate who does not get 10 percent is out and their supporterses must choose a new candidate. the candidate with the largest group wins that site. the caucuses begin tonight at 7 local time at iowa. now, we were talking off camera, you know, a win in iowa doesn't mean a win for the presidency, right? >> it's been hit and miss in the past. george w bush actually won in 2000 but bill clinton came in fourth in his caucus back in 1992. >> so pretty interesting stuff. thanks so much. well here in north carolina

state's controversial voting rights law is set to wrap soon. closing arguments get underway some time this morning. groups challenging the voter identification law worry it will cause big voting problems for latino and the the homeless. the state argues it will crack down on fraud. the chapel hill man accused of killing a dental student and his wife and sister is scheduled to return to court later this month. the he's facing three counts of first degree murder and being investigated as a possible hate crime. next week will mark the one year anniversary of the shootings that claimed the lives. there's still no motive in the murder of a 13-year old girl week. two virginia tech students have been arrested and charged in the death of the girl. they remain behind bars

they're accused of abducting, can and killing her and leaving her body. >> this investigation is far from over as we're continuing to conduct multiple interviews, processing additional evidence related to this crime. the focus in this investigation is to now reconstruct the time line leading up to the tragic death. >> he's charged with first degree murder and the other has been charged with improper disposal of the body. and she was a liver trance plants survivor. the 13-year old like i said was a liver transplant survivor. people in north carolina coming to the aid of people in flint michigan. neighbors have been struggling without clean drinking water for months now. thousands of bottles collected in our state expected to arrive in flint latered today. collections one of many water drives underway across the country. >> something small that we can do.

not a permanent long-term solution. >> 15,000 bottles were sent from north carolina to michigan. one of the many trucks from around the country head today flint. the state supreme court has agreed to here ashville's challenge to a state law directing it to turn over the city water system to the sewage district. back in october the state court of appeals ruled against the city by reversing a court's decision in the city's favor. leaders say the state exceeded its authority by passing a law that would give the water system to the sewage district without paying the city. a u.s. senator is calling on the federal government to take action now to contain the zika virus. it has infected people in 23 countries including five people in new york state. new york senator chuck schumer

arrested morales for a shooting that killed a 22-year old man saturday afternoon. investigators say he shot the victim after they got into a fight earlier that day. today marks the beginning of heart month, so it's time to raise a lot of awareness about the nation's number one killer, heart disease. a key weapon is exercise but many simply aren't getting enough. >> reporter: a body at rest tends to stay at rest and that greatly increases the risk for heart disease. killer. >> a new survey finds 40 percent of us not meeting the minimum recommendations for exercise. 30 minutes a day, five days a week of walking, biking, lifting weights any kind of activity

so if you're guesseding -- getting ready to head out here just remember the sunglasses. now, it is going to taper off this evening. watch what happens. you see this broken line of showers back to our west, that's a cold front that's going to swing through our area. so that cold front back to our are west bringing the threat to us for showers after sunset and into the evening hours but the thing here is this is going to move quickly out of the area. so by midnight, 1, 2:00 tomorrow morning we should be dry again. staying a little cloudy though as we head into tuesday morning for us still above normal for so here we are, this afternoon we're dry at 2:00, stopping it again at 6 p.m. and you'll notice most of us still on the dry side but fast forward to 10:00 a few showers in and around the area really along the triangle and northward if you're around the sand hills you're going to stay sunny and dry conditions. we'll see some more sunshine mixed in

afternoon. so let's get to the temperatures this is what's happening right now you're getting ready to head out the door for your lunch break, 62 in roxboro, the mid-60 around sand hill. 68 in durham and 71 in fayetteville. overnight tonight we're going to drop into the upper 40s. we're going to be cloudy and mild and a few showers. tomorrow it's ground hog day 58 degrees behind tonight's cold front but we will be dry, a second cold front of this week comes through on wednesday and expecting a pretty good chance for widespread rain. a few lingering showers on friday and friday's going to see a drop in temperature right around 52 on thursday. friday looks like another sunny day for us but check out that temperature 47 degrees, so we go from well above normal for this
