morning obviously. we're going to have of a recap, plus tough night got even tougher for governor pat mccrory how he was injured in a car accident after the game, and why the coming spring has some experts word reed by the zika virus spreading to the carolinas. let's check in with kristin with a look at your forecast. >> good morning, everyone. i'm sure a lot of people trying to get a little bit of extra sleep this morning and i don't blame you. it's a little chilly outside. not worrying about any kind of wet weather this morning. we dealt with some sleet and rain yesterday. that system is out of the picture. we are dry for now and we'll stay dry through this morning. temperatures cold though, it's 29 degrees in raleigh, 29 also in durham. so a lot of spots in the 20s, 30 is our current temperature in fayetteville. at the bus stop this morning you definitely need the jacket, you'll need the umbrella later,

this morning in the 50s this afternoon and as far as your morning drive goes really not looking too bad around the area. temperatures warming up today into the 50s. as far as traffic goes this morning no major issues to tell you about on your area thoroughfares around the triangle. here's a live look at i-440 and six forks road you can see traffic moving smoothly in both direction. and on the traffic maps all green. so no major incidents to tell you about on your area roads and things looking pretty good. the accident that was on i-440 is now clear and any of the westbound loops looking like a pretty smooth drive on 540 to 64 you're looking at a 16-minute drive. more weather and traffic coming up. the coffee has been flowing, well the broncos your super

the panthers obviously not. pretty disappointing. broncos won 24 to 10 in california. hundreds of fans took to the streets in downtown denver to celebrate the victory. traffic was backed up for miles and dozens of police officers kept the situation under control. after taking some time to process the loss the panthers will start working towards next season. >> it's going to hurt. hopefully after a few days or whatever it is we'll get over it and move forward. >> we feel like we're built for the long haul. we never felt like this was a one time shot. it's going to take a while get over this and move forward here into the off season before we start u you know, kind of looking to next year. >> it was a tough one but nonetheless a great season. the broncos victory parade will take place tomorrow in denver is. some breaking news, the governor is recovering this morning after a crash in

he left the super bowl. >> well, mike, the governor has minor injuries after that crash. he was in santa clara, california for the super bowl and here's some video the governor's office released prior to his trip. the trip he was riding in after the game was totalled after being rear ended around 8 p.m. local time. the governor issued a statement saying quote: we were very fortunate and while i am still proud of the panthers this puts the game in proper perspective. the governor declined treatment and continued onto where he was head in another vehicle. mike. >> glad that he's okay. right now a handful of local school systems operating on a delay this morning as a result of some winter weather. emma wright is riding around this morning. how's it looking out there? >> we are in wilson county right now one of the counties on a two hour delay. roads looking pretty good. we've been driving all over the place this morning. we were just in edgecombe county.

the most water on the roads. things looking pretty dry here when you're getting ready to send the kids to school this morning keep this in mind edgecombe county be schools operating on a three-hour delay this morning. johnston county schools on a two hour delay wayne county also on a two hour delay. we also want to pass along if you -- wayne middle outright today. the school says there's some kind of issue with the power. the school is without electricity and won't be able to get it turned on in time for school this morning. so things looking pretty dry out here. all of the districts operating on delays because of some icy weather they saw yesterday. we haven't seen much ice yet, but that doesn't mean that there isn't ice in some other places so you want to keep

wncn has new information this morning following a deadly hit and run in garner. the victim has been identified as a 22-year old. it's believed she was walking along the road some time that night when she was hit. >> these types of incidents all too tragic. especially someone to hit someone and then leave the scene. that's just really tragic and so we're just going to need some help. we obviously got our folks working as hard as they can. we're going to do what we can but we need help from the public too. >> and police looking for a minivan that should have some right front end damage. a 12-year old boy is recovering after being shot in the leg. it happened saturday night around 7:00 in downtown durham. it happened near roxboro and holloway streets. goldsboro police continuing their investigation into a deadly shooting. investigators

a shooting just before 3:00 sunday morning and found a wayne county man dead. that shooting taking place only a block away from the goldsboro police department. when police did arrive on the scene they found the victim a 27-year old. locals saying they don't want crime taking over their neighborhood. >> if i see something i'm telling someone. if they come on my block i'm calling. i will not sit buy and allow them to destroy the neighborhood that i'm going to call my home. >> neighbors say they have spoken to their local council men about putting up cameras in the neighborhood. authorities in georgia investigating a plant explosion. take a look police say the explosion happened early sunday morning at a feed mill and a chicken farm at about 50 miles northwest of atlanta. they say a 25-year old died and six other

authorities say the cause remains under investigation. the type of mosquito responsible for the spread of the zika virus can't just fly to the u.s. it would need to bite an infected person that came to the u.s. . >> the mosquitos that are of concern with the virus in the southeastern united states. it's here in south carolina, it's well established and we see it every year. >> and take a look, this map shows which states may be most at risk come springtime. the darkest red states like texas and florida have the highest risk but the carolinas also on the radar. the risk of major birth defects could prompt changes in preany way at all care if cases spread. we're now less than a week away from valentine's day from

temperatures going to get colder as we head through this week. we will see some rain out of ahead of it this afternoon and evening eventually wrapping up late today. this morning at the bus stop expect the temperature around 30 degrees with mostly clear skies. rain showers this afternoon with temperatures in the 50s, so you need the umbrella for later today. we're warming up to 34 degrees at 8 a.m., 47 at lunchtime, after lunch we see the showers moving in our high temperature today around 52. we have a chance of seeing a few flurries tomorrow plus colder air is settling in i'll have your complete forecast coming up. >> it is coming up on 6:12. there's about six months before the olympics. despite criticism overworking conditions and environmental problems, a new video has been released.

providing us with some rain showers around the area and some pretty light rain showers as well. 29 degrees is our current temperature in raleigh, 29 also in durham, 33 at rocky mount, 30 in fayetteville but many spots in the upper 20s this morning. we are going to be warming up. we see the sunshine first today. so we at least get a taste of some sunshine through the morning until about lunchtime. then we start seeing clouds thickening up, showers arriving this afternoon, along that cold front it will be pretty light and fairly scattered but behind it we notice some big changes as we head through this week ahead. temperatures today in the low 50s and today going to be the warmest day of the week. increasing clouds with the showers rolling through this afternoon and evening. as that cold front moves into the area it clears quickly tomorrow. cold can air starts to settle in. we may still have a few lingering flurries behind the cold front. that will depend on

it here and the best chance for that is going to be for folks who live along the virginia border. it's just a few flurries tomorrow. not a full-blown snow event. mostly sunny and even colder for wednesday and thursday. temperatures not getting out of the 30s for highs. overnight low temperatures back in the 20s. so your future cast here actually looking pretty good for the next several hours. clouds increasing this afternoon. we've got the showers arriving after lunchtime. our best chance for seeing some of those heavier showers pushing through going to be in time for that evening commute. we dry out as we head through tonight with the exception of a stray flurry or two. tomorrow things looking pretty good for your tuesday but definitely colder. 52 will be the high today in raleigh, 51 in durham, 54 in fayetteville. tonight temperatures fall to 32 degrees our showers come to an end maybe a flurry or two but i think the best chance is going to be during the daytime hours tomorrow.

again a few of the spotty flurries. thursday we're also not getting out of the 30s. we warm back up into the low 40s on friday but a cold stretch of weather coming our way into next weekend. and as far as your morning drive, no real major issues to tell you about on the roads. i think a lot of people sleeping in today. here's a look at i-40, where you can see traffic is actually moving okay. we're seeing increased traffic volumes but overall not looking bad and the traffic map is all green meaning no major incidents. things looking pretty good around the triangle and as far as your drive times going if you're traveling eastbound on 440 from i-40, you're looking at about a 10-minute drive. >> thanks so much. broncos be the new super bowl champions, the panthers still feeling pretty disappointed as you can imagine

wilson county. things were looking a little more wet than they are here, but we still haven't seen any ice so far. all these counties on delays this morning because of the wet weather they saw yesterday. they saw some sleet and ice in so when you're headed out this morning here's some things you want to keep in mind edgecombe county schools on a three-hour delay this morning, johnston county schools on a two hour delay as it wayne county and wilson county schools. if you live in goldsboro you want to keep this in mind wayne middle and high school they're closed this morning because of some kind of electronic issue. they say the school is without electricity and they don't have enough time get it back on. so again, a couple of schools on some delays this morning. you want to keep that in mind before you are headed out. >> thanks for that update. switching to decision 2016 this morning the polls open for

look at this crews in raleigh trying to figure out what started a late night house fire. firefighters responded to the house around 11:20 last night. investigators say it all started in the attic. three people in the home did make it out safely. the red cross is helping them find another place to live. today a man is expected indianapolis court charged with second degree murder in the death of his wife. deputies say that she was found dead inside her home. her husband, this man, is now charged and he's being held. today three teens are expected in court accused of throwing rocks at cars on interstate 95. a 17-year old and two, 18-year olds all faces charges. now, 7 counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill amongst other charges. police caught

>> it was the most bazaar and it aired in the beginning so it stuck with you. >> i was thinking what was that about. all right. any way they're telling to us wrap. so weather wise we're off to a chilly start. yeah, not bad this morning. things looking chilly this morning but beautiful. we're going to see the sunshine today. nothing popping up on the radar in our immediate area right now. we had some sleet and some rain yesterday. that system that brought us that messy weather now out of the picture. we're dry for the first part of today before the next cold front arrives. it will bring us a few showers later today. it's 29 degrees in raleigh and durham right now, 30 in fayetteville. so we are off to that really cold start with temperatures below freezing but we're warming up you into the low 50s today topping out at around 52 degrees we'll see the sunshine through about lunchtime he and then clouds a start to thicken up and well will have our best chance for showers between 3 p.m.

so expect increasing clouds some of the showers holding off until later this afternoon and evening. the cold front as it moves in from the west clears the area early tomorrow so showers really wrapping up tonight. we may be left with a few flurries early tomorrow with temperatures much much colder. highs only in the 40s tomorrow and maybe a flurry right along our virginia border counties. so we'll keep a close eye on that. colder air settles in for wednesday and thursday but foams on wednesday and thursday not getting out of the 30s. so a cold stretch of future cast showing clear skies through lunchtime then the clouds move in, some showers likely as we evening. our best chance for some of the heavier showers right around the evening drive. so keep that in mind. a few flurries likely, again during the daytime tomorrow. 52 will be our high in raleigh today. 54 degrees in fayetteville with showers moving in this afternoon and evening. they come to an

drivers that they have on staff. more than 75,000 students ride busses to and from school every single week. we're still waiting to learn the name of man who died after having chest pains during the first mile of the challenge run saturday in raleigh. the 58-year old was rushed to the hospital we later died in a statement organizers say their deepest sympathies go outs to the runner of the family. the idea is to run two and a half miles, eat doughnuts and then run back. the fundraiser races money for the north carolina children's hospital. so certainly our thoughts and prayers with that family as well. >> in 2014 you may remember two men died during the rock and roll marathon in raleigh. a 35-year old collapse and died before he reached the halfway point and a 31-year old died shortly before reaching the

the ve some quick news, governor pat mccrory is recovering from minor injuries after getting into a crash shortly after the super bowl last night. he was in california watching the game, investigators say a driver hit the car that mccrory was riding in from behind and totalled that vehicle. fortunately the governor is expected to be okay.
