let's go to alyssa corfont yesterday was windy he and now we've got more cloud today. look at these temperatures in the teens and 20s, 18 in roxboro, 19 in durham, 19 in henderson the low 20s around louisburg and raleigh, mid-20s in littleton but more of the teens through siler city, sanford, pinehurst, raeford has fallen to 15 degrees. there's still enough of a breeze out there to make it feel significantly colder. wind chills were in the single digits. 19 is what it feels like in south hill. raleigh it looks like the wind has for the most part calmed down right now. here's a look at your fast forecast low 20s out the door at 8 a.m. lots of sunshine today 36 at noon, 40 our afternoon high compare that to our normal of 54. now, we are tracking the threat for some wintry weather tomorrow. let's check in with traffic, here's the intersection of

good morning. so glad that you're with us. emma write write out on area roads this morning where crews prepping for some winter weather. we have a look ahead of tonight's democratic debate but let's check in with alyssa corfont got a lot of stuff headed our way. yeah, a lot of changes over the next five days but for this morning not a lot has changed so far just very cold as you're getting ready to head out the door. we are seeing more teens than what we've been dealing with the past few mornings. we're looking at 19 right now in durham, 16 in sanford and pinehurst, the coldest temperature in raeford at 15 degrees. you have to factor in the wind today because there's enough out there to make an impact. wind chills have been in the single digits at times. right now it feels like

to those biterly cold temperatures, it is below freezing in many places in central north carolina. emma wright is checking out the roads where they're preparing for icy conditions. good morning. >> right, we're not seeing anything bad yet, however, you can tell crews have been out preparing for that winter weather that alyssa has been telling us about. we were on 70 right now. let me pull this up here. there you go, you can see the white lines on the road that is the brine solution that they've put down, brine is a salt mixture that they put on the roads to hopefully make it melt a little bit faster and have it not stick and create any slick conditions. so far we have not seen any ice. we've been on 70, 40, 95, all of those have been brined. we haven't seen any ice. we haven't seen any brine on the secondary roads, however, that is pretty typical.

out here and because it's so cold in addition to brining all of the roads some area shelters trying to get ahead of themselves before the storm too. in durham the rescue mission launched operation rescue that means the shelter is open to men and women who don't have a warm place to go. they go go there and with have a warm place to sleep and a warm meal. as for these roads right now things looking pretty good but again, they are preparing for the winter weather we may see later in the week. right now state trooper and another driver recovering after a crash on i-40, crews shut down three westbound lanes for more than 3 hours to clean up the investigators say the trooper stopped to help two crash. a tracteder trailer clipped another car, well that car wound up losing control and

on any charges at this point but the trooper and the other driver were taken to the hospital but expected to be okay. later this month and next month a community police chief and town worker expected inside a courtroom. the police chief and administrative assistant face cyber stalking charges. the arrest stems from claims made by pitman's husband. we're learning more about the sheriffs deputy who was ambushed and assaulted. authorities say the deputy was off duty at a children's birth stay party at the time. investigators say once suspect lured him outside and three others came from behind some parked cars. the sheriff tells us he was targeted because he's in law enforcement. yesterday can the four suspects appeared in court. >> he had some injuries of course to his face, his back, his kidneys, his ribs. he's in pretty bad shape, but you know, he's a tough guy.

the deputy citing his involvement in undercover operations and concern for the safety of his family. the four suspects now charged with assault. the federal government going after the city of ferguson. the justice department has filed a civil lawsuit saying the city failed to accept an agreement that would improve how police and the justice system treat my nor rate tease. property posed agreement would too much money. the attorney general says there is no excuse. >> it was well aware by deciding not to accept it that they were choosing litigation. >> the city has been under fire since 18-year old michael brown was shot and killed by a police officer 18 months ago. it sparked violent protest that is lasted for weeks in that city. the attorney general is heading to fayetteville which is part of a six city tour. the first stop takes place today and tomorrow in florida. we're
