good morning, and thank you so much for watching wncn today. happy friday to you. >> all right we made it to friday. we begin with the big story this morning is the weather. a winter weather advisory prompted schools to make changes to today's schedules. >> all these schools closed today: rocky mount, wilson county schools, franklin county is on a two hour delay. >> we have team coverage of the winter weather threat. emma wright is riding around in our viewing area. good morning. to you at home as well. you were talking about a winter weather advisory here it is. it goes into effect at 7 a.m. this morning. continues through 7 p.m.

will start here and then be in effect off to our east right along the 95 corridor. generally speaking in this area about a half an inch of snow possible but that's going to be enough to cause some slick spots on the roadways. crews already out treating conditions. right now look at this, just a few clouds around the triangle back to our west already seeing some light snow around the mountain back to even farther to the west through central portions of tennessee they're seeing some light snow wintry mix as well. some of you will start to see flurries flying around 10 a.m., the majority close to lunchtime today. 26 in raleigh, 26 in durham, in the mid-20s around roxboro, louisburg and rocky mount. 30 in clayton and 30 in clinton this morning. getting to your fast forecast your morning commute should be dry but it's cloudy and cold,

close to the freezing mark at lunchtime today and that's when we're looking at the chance for snow and ice. wintry mix around the sand hills this afternoon. back to near freezing by 6 p.m. but the good news is if you're driving home at 6 p.m. from the office most of you should be dry again. so it's the mid-day hours that we'll really be watching for the accumulating snow. let's check in with traffic tone friday morning. here's i-40 and page road just a few cars out there really going to be an easy commute if you're driving right now. again just cloudy skies, no wintry weather expected for your morning drive in. i do want to check in with chatam county because we have a closure. this has been in effect for the past few days. there's a sinkhole. it's closed. at had this point in time it remains closed.

traffic and weather in about ten minutes. right now everyone is waiting to see what impact if any the winter weather will have on our area roads. >> emma wright has been riding all morning and continues our team coverage this morning. >> well, the dot looks like they have been preparing for any possible impact we say see. we are on u.s. 70 right now around the smithfield area. those white lines on the road that is the brine that they've been putting down. we were driving around this area yesterday. they put some brine down then. in some spots you can see it's completely gray with that brine on the road that's the salt solution they put down to keep the snow and the salt -- or the snow and the ice from sticking when the stuff does start to fall. so they are preparing ahead for this possible winter weather we may see later today. the other people preparing ahead the area shelters. check out the durham rescue mission. we they

the laughing cow. reinvent snacking. in the weather center now with meteorologist alyssa corfont and we're expecting some possible snow today. >> yeah, i don't think it's going to be a big deal though about up to a half an inch in the triangle but it is going to come mid-day. so 26 degrees right now, a live picture from we'll show maybe one or two more cars earlier. it will be quiet on the roadways ahead of this wintry weather of it's not for some of you. more of you will see it closer to lunchtime. this is we're seeing very light snow back to our west and that's what it's going to be as it arrives in our area. now, the temperatures prime for anything that starts to fall will stick on the roadways treated.

from emma wright that the majority of the roads have been treated. 26 in durham, 26 in roxboro, 21 in south hill while fayetteville, raeford and littleton all in the upper 20 this is morning. let me walk you through your day, you'll notice a few flurries possible at 10 a.m., the best chance for snow mid-day. our high this afternoon 35. the good news is by the time some of you are heading home some dryer roads will be starting to move into the area. 32 degrees at 6 p.m. this evening. so here's what you can expect generally less than a half an inch of snow in the areas shade in white, the heavier amounts of snow actually going to fall off towards the coast line. we'll explain more on this and when you'll see some sunshine coming up. well, that was cold night for a sweet ride around north carolina central university last night. just in time for valentine's day.

complaining. i didn't say that. >> that's much of a valentine's day for her. >> this is true. i've got it all planned out for you. it's a surprise. >> it's a second read. >> yeah. let's take it to our forecast. we are looking at partly to mostly cloudy skies this morning, 26 degrees. here's a live picture from the raleigh durham international airport. quiet right now. again, nothing happening here in central north carolina which is what we expected. we're expecting it to develop later today. right now a few flurries light snow showers in the mountains some of the system back to our west through tennessee as well as and they're seeing a wintry mix developing just north of atlanta this morning. this is really going to be a small system. i'm tracking some more wintry weather that could arrive early next week and have a bigger impact.

raleigh, 26 in durham, 29 in littleton, also in the upper 20s around fayetteville and raeford and clinton and at 26 degrees this morning. cloudy skies, 26 the best chance for some snow and wintry mix type weather is going to be mid-day. lunch hour into the next few hours after that say through 3:00, then by 6 p.m. i'm expecting us to be dry again, right around 32 degrees for the evening drive home. let's walk you through this on our future forecast, 7 a.m. dry but cloudy don't expect a pretty sunrise this morning. here we are at lunchtime today some of the accumulating snow showers starting move into the triangle. watch that area of pink down around the sand hills. untreated roads could develop some problems as we head into lunchtime and into the early afternoon hours. that's going to continue to move across the area then say 4:00 it's hugging right around the 59 corridor

border and by 5, 6 o'clock it should be out of the area. clearing skies overnight and that's going to pea the way for a sunny weekend. now, if you're inside looking out perfect weather if you're outs it's going to be frigid. so again, here's what you can expect this area shaded in white up to a half an inch of snow. you'll notice it includes raleigh portion of harnett county and virginia and then off to the 95 corridor. if you're around the sand hills i think this is going to be a wintry mix event for you, some sleet, snow, even some cold rain and then look towards the outer banks, 1 to 2 inches of snow possible if you're around durham chapel hill maybe just a few flurries, but again, the winter weather advisory goes into effect at 7 a.m. this morning. we've been talking about this all day long continues in the county necessary blue. generally

35 our high today, 34 in durham, fast forward to tonight clearing skies, still cold, a low of 23 degrees. and as we head into the coming days, yeah, the sunshine is here for oat weekend, 34 on saturday and then temperatures for some of you could stay below freezing on sunday. make sure you're bringing your pets inside doors make sure you're checking on your elderly neighbors, friends of sunday morning we could start off right around 14 degrees. now, i mentioned another system, that comes through monday and could start as a wintry mix and could be here for the morning commute and then eventually change into a cold rain for tuesday ending possibly as a few flurries wednesday morning. tuesday through thursday i'm expecting temperatures to top out in the 50s which overall where we should be for this time of year. time to check in with traffic i-545 and ray road just a few cars, very dark camera.
