rapids, wayne and wilson county schools, franklin county is on a two hour delay. >> let's get over to alyssa corfont with a look at the forecast. good morning. >> good morning to you at home as well as. we do have that winter weather advisory. it goes into effect at 7 a.m. this morning and continues through 7 p.m. and you can see it will be in effect for wade county and everyone off to our east. generally speaking around the 95 corridor about a half an inch of snow is expected to accumulate, but no snow falling this morning, that's what we expected. partly to mostly cloudy skies around our area, some flurries back to the mountains and even more wintry weather developing across tennessee and even down towards georgia as we start off our friday morning. that gets here mid-morning and we'll continue into the early afternoon hours. now, in the meantime temperatures cold enough that anything that false on untreated

immediately. 25 in raleigh, 23 in louisburg, 23 in henderson, south hill you're at 20 degrees, and then around the sand hills, fayetteville and littleton now both at 29. so we'll get to your fast forecast 8 a.m. temperature 25, just cold, cloudy conditions there. lunchtime today some wintry weather possible, snow for us here in the triangle, and down around the sand hills possibly some sleet there. then 3:00 our high 35 wintry mix still likely and then for the evening drive home most of us should start to see some dryer conditions. we'll have to watch again for elevate surfaces, 32 at 6 p.m. i'll get to more in your forecast and the very cold weekend ahead that we're expecting but right few we'll switch gears and check in with traffic. if you're getting ready to head out the door no winter weather falling. i-40 and harrison avenue looks typical for this time of the morning on a friday. and we do have an alert to pass along to you, this was active yesterday, it's on nc

so cloudy skies for your morning drive in. 25 right now. by 9 a.m. we should be closer to 28 degrees and then that snow showers and even the chance for wintry mix had will arrive shortly after that. 25 right now and here's a live picture out at the raleigh durham international airport, again, a quiet start to our day. most of the snow still back to our west exactly where we are expecting it to be. we're expecting it mid-day so here we are back to our west some snow showers through central portions of tennessee that's extending just north of atlanta. that's going to head closer to us and it will strengthen a little bit and as it does it will start to fall hearsay 10 a.m. for some of you more closer to noon for the majority of us but what can you expect generally less than a half an inch of snow. these areas shade in white. the areas shaded in blue that's one to two inches and it does include a

counties, right along the virginia border. down around the sand hills pink which means mainly a light rain. keep in mind the mix could be dangerous for bridges and overpasses causing some slick spots there. high today of only 35. colder for the weekend ahead although we will be seeing sunshine, that will be nice. 34 on saturday, 32 sunday and check out that morning temperature sunday we'll likely start right around 14 degrees. i'll let you know if these temperatures continue and when we could see some more wintry weather coming up. scott kelly is gearing up to return back to earth next month after a record-breaking stint in space. he spoke out about his time at the space station. he's been in space longer than any other and says we've got a lot of work to do here at earth. >> it definitely looks very fragile, and you know, kind of

way later this morning into the afternoon. so breaking your forecast down hour by hour dry conditions at 8 a.m., isolated snow shower possible at 10 a.m., and the wintry whether from noon to 3:00 this afternoon. 34 at 2:00, our high today 35, you're getting in the car for that evening drive home 6 o'clock maybe a few lingering flurries moved of us should be dry right around the freezing mark though. 8 o'clock we're dry, 10 a.m., again, most of us still on the dry side, watch what happens though say noon, 1:00 the snow showers right overhead and more of the pink down around fayetteville, that's the wintry mix that is possible, the bridges and overpasses could be slick after that. 3:00 most of it is starting shift off to our north and east and that's where

if you want to call that an improvement you can, 26 in durham, 25 in raleigh, the upper 20s around littleton, fayetteville raeford and towards pinehurst this morning. so here's a look at your fast forecast, dry weather will continue through the morning commute. now, at lunchtime that's where i think the best chance for some snow and wintry mix weather will move through, 32 at noon, 35 our high, still looking at that wintry mix falling around central north carolina. now, in time for your evening drive home most of us should be experiencing dryer conditions but the bridges and overpasses could certainly have some slick spots with a temperature around 32. sunshine returns for the weekend ahead but it will be very cold more on that to come. right now let's switch gears and check in with traffic. if you're getting ready to head out it looks a little busier. the good news is no problems on area roads.

investigators looking for boyd who's now facing murder and robbery charges. police say he killed bird. officers found bird's body tuesday morning and say he was shot in the head. we learned raleigh police still looking for one more suspect in the murder of a taxi driver. friends and coworkers came out to honor him yesterday. two men charged with his had murder. friends believe the men called the taxi to rob him saying he was shot over just $13. durham public schools sending a message to the government don't arrest our students. it comes on the heels of the arrest of this student on january 28th. he was on his way to riverside high school when he was caught in an immigration raid of. his sister says he entered illegally in 2014. he's now awaiting deportation. while the district's board of

calling for the arrest to end, since his arrest riverside high school has the largest hispanic population in the district has fallen about 20% surrounding fears of more raids. former chair is now out of jail this morning. authorities arrested him after they say he took a gun through a security checkpoint at the airport. >> it was a complete accident. so other than acknowledging i'm stupid can we do away with this now? >> he's pretty frustrated obviously with the media. he says he accidentally left the gun in his briefcase after take it to a shooting range last weekend. he faces misdemeanor charge of having a gun on city property. she has not yet had her first day on the job but her hiring has been the subject of controversy for months. president elect spellings is in

board of governors that hired her. spellings is expected to meet later today with reporters. >> reporter: we're inside the grand over resort in goldsboro where the unc board of governors is continuing its two day retreat. spellings is set to take over as the new system president for unc on march 1st. in have been several demonstration even some arrests at recent board meetings. she is a former u.s. education secretary under president bush and her opponents say her hiring was too political. yesterday spelling spoke to the board about some of the goals she'd like to accomplish once she is on the job next month. >> i'm going to get about the campuses in my first 100 days on the job. they're all scheduled. i know that aisle be seeing many of you around the state as well. >> she and i have discussed at length our desire to make our

with some light snow breaking news out of new jersey we're getting a live look from the ground at this massive fire that's still burning this morning. it started on thursday. so it actually start yesterday. shut down part of some major roadways it's at the veterans industrial park. so thankfully at this point no injuries have been reported. we'll keep you update throughout the morning on our social media platforms as well. here we've got a winter weather advisory kicks off at 7:00 and sounds like the eastern part of north carolina out towards the coast line may be affected. >> yeah, i think they're going to get the highest totals which is weird. for us today we

kick off, welcome back. after receiving thousands of complaints since early january the state is planning to take a closer look at what's causing problems for customers of blue cross, blue shield of north carolina. we have a look at the latest problems and the reactions. >> the issues deal with billing and verifying coverage. the department of insurance is launching a formal examination of the company. insurance commissioner says he met with the company's executives. among those dealing with the issues told wncn that he's struggling to get questions answered. >> in most jobs you are accountable for good and bad performance. so somebody has to answer to it. >> this particular examination will help us learn about what has happened to prompt those

how -- what can be down to prevent it from happening again and really how it happened and by whom. >> blue cross blue shield apologized for the ongoing problems. at the same time all of is going on the company is considering getting out of the affordable care act marketplace. they say consistently losing money on these plans ultimately puts all of our customers at risk. we are doing everything we can to participate in the exchange, but must evaluate the sustainability and afford ability ever any plans we offer our customers for 2017. the company lost more than $50 million and is expected to announce a loss for 2015 as well. right now more than 50 inmates dead after violence he erupted in a prison in mexico. 12 others were hurt after a riot broke out. relatives of the inmates went to the prison demanding answers, it is the

two police officers were killed in separate incidents yesterday, one in north dakota, the other in georgia. wednesday two deputies were shot and killed in maryland. city council members at odds when it comes to police body cams roadways. in just a few days they'll take a vote on whether to outfit ever police officer with a body camera. while the big issue some members really concerned about a provision that will keep the footage secret. we reached out to durham's mayor and haven't heard back yet. former professor is under monitored house arrest. he is charged with three counts of embezzlement. he's been a professor for 18 years now. he was an advisor for several clubs on campus. university police say he used that role to funnel out thousands of dollars for his own personal use. the school says he resigned one bay before

yesterday but we do have one area in the teens that's south hill at 19, around the sand hills 29, fayetteville and littleton 29. here's your radar, cloudy skies around our area back to our west there's some light snow key words here light around central portions of tennessee into northeastern portion of georgia. that system will start to strengthen though as it heads towards us but not expecting it to be a big event today. it will be cold, dry, 26 at 8 a.m., 29 at 10 a.m., chance for an isolated shower across the sand hills. here around the triangle expecting that to start to fall as light flurries at 10 a.m. and then the chance picks up a bit for us, noon to about 3:00 that's the best window for accumulating snow. some of you are just going to walk away with a dusting. down around the sand hills likely falling as a wintry mix. for the evening drive home we'll be
