6:01 am
the heaviest rain at least just passed through fuquay varina. don't be surprised if you hear some of the wind out there, gusts up to or even above 40 miles per hour likely as the line moves in. it just passed through fayetteville and as it did it left a 58-mile per hour wind gust. so this is all part of a cold front continuing to push through the area of once it clears the area we dry out today. so we will see at least a little bit of sunshine likely by this afternoon. it's warm, 57 degrees in raleigh, it's 54 in durham, 56 is our current temperature in fayetteville. if you remember this time yesterday we were dealing with temperatures in the 20s. so we're about 30 degrees warmer than that. the temperatures actually warmed up all night. we had a wind gust of 32 miles per hour in raleigh, 35-mile per hour in dunn. so the winds howling. we've got that heavy rain and that may cause some issues just for the next few hours here before we start to

6:04 am
some folks ahead of slip and slide a little bit. the swindled blowing really heavy blowing the rain sideways. so if you're about to get in the car and head to work or school you probably want to give yourself a few extra minutes and be prepared to drive pretty slow for the next few minutes or so. we'll continue to monitor the roads and bring you some more updates later on in the show. back to you. >> thank you. well right now thousands without power all across our viewing area. this is a look at the duke power outage coverage map right now. you can find a link on our website at wncn.com and see what areas affected. an icy bridge is to blame for this accident that happened in moore county. >> you can see the suv flipped over. it happened just before 8:00 last night. these photos were sent into us. the two people inside the car did go to the hospital but they're

can see the really dark colors, the reds, yellows, oranges indicating some of the heavier showers pushing through our region. we had a very heavy downpour move in. it's basically a line of strong showers and even a few thunderstorms possible some gusty winds likely as this storm continues to push its way off to the east. so keep that in mind. you may have a wind gust upwards of 40 miles per hour here as the line continues to work its way through. so clayton is next for the heavy rain it just passed through dunn moving over i-95 right now. so please be careful if you are are start that go drive this morning, water will collect and pond on the roads very quickly. this is all thanks to a cold front continuing to push its way on through. it will exit the area as we head into this afternoon and we will dry out a bit before we see much dryer weather completely taking hold here as

carolina is laying off more than 1,000 employees. dimler trucking told employees at both locations friday would be their last day. both locations near charlotte. the company laid off 900 workers back in january. turning to the weather now the rain keeps coming down it seems like it's -- >> yeah, you can hear it outside this morning. we've got heavy rain, and that is for northeast wake county and also portions of johnston county until 6:30. so for another few minutes because we do have 58-mile per hour wind gusts possible as this line of showers and storms continues to push its way through the area and you can see some of the darker colors on the radar here, those reds, oranges, yellows, that's heavy rain moving through the area currently. it just passed over our station in raleigh. we could hear it on the rooftops here and don't be surprised if you hear some thunder or see lightning here as
6:18 am
push its way to the east. smithfield also going to see some of the heavy rain and gusty winds soon, clayton experiencing it right now and this is the worst of that heavy rain that we'll actually see all day. this is all part of a much larger storm system that will lift out to the northeast as we head through this afternoon. so our best chance for that heavy rain going to be really right about now. these early morning hours here before we see the rain continuing to push east and a little bit of sunshine making a come back a little bit later this afternoon. so wind also an issue. we had that severe thunderstorm warning which means we could have winds gusting upwards of 58 miles per hour in spots as the line moves in. we currently have a gust of 35 miles per hour in dunn, 29 miles per hour in louisburg and 25 miles per hour in smithfield. it might be a little bit slow going for the next hour or so on some of the area roads.
6:19 am
raleigh, that's huge change from yesterday. we're 30 degrees warmer than we were this time yesterday. 53 in durham, 55 in fayetteville, near 60 in clinton. temperatures rising a lit bit through this morning. expect the breeze to continue as well but notice as we move into this afternoon we will start to see a lot of sunshine returning here at least a little bit of sunshine early this afternoon, more peeks of sun later today and tonight we're actually looking mostly dry. so we do have this marginal risk of severe weather and that's mostly east of the viewing area but does include the southern tip of sampson county that's mostly an issue for those folks who live along the north carolina coast. we'll keep a close eye as the squall line continues to push through. so the squall line actually clears are the area quickly this morning and we will see as i mentioned skies clearing out by lunchtime most of the wet
6:20 am
we see a little bit of sunshine this afternoon. this evening a very small chance of a passing shower and that's going to be north of the triangle and it clears out quickly by tomorrow too. so by tomorrow we're back to seeing mostly sunny skies. today temperatures going to be warm, 61 degrees in raleigh, 60 in durham, 64 in fayetteville. tonight temperatures down to 38 degrees. we've got an isolated shower possible otherwise partly cloudy skies and temperatures stay above freezing all night. so all of the rain that we have out there tonight and today not going to freeze. that's the good news. we're done with the wintry weather at least for your 7-day forecast which you'll see right now 56 tomorrow, 52 on thursday, the rest of the week looks great and let's fast forward to the weekend 66 on saturday and 64 on sunday. so the rain causing some issues for that morning drive. let's take a look outside

giving you a first hand look at what's going on out there and there is some heavy heavy rain falling so keep that in mind. we're going to take a look at a camera -- we were at least -- but we are now currently looking at your traffic map which is showing just a few minor issues out there this morning. we had a wreck at i-40 and now that has been cleared. there is another one though still on hammond road so definitely avoid that area if at all possible. watch for some slow downs. definitely take it slow some ponding possible on the roads as we have this heavy rain moving through the area already seeing that water starting collect. so more weather and traffic coming up in just a few minutes. you had to believe that the coach would get his troops back in line. blue devils back in

throughout our viewing area. kristin is watching our weather as well as the roads. >> we're going to get to emma in just a few minutes. well, we've got a severe thunderstorm warning a couple of them in effect because of the heavy rain and the gusty winds that we're seeing currently so our first one is in effect for franklin granville, nash until 7 o'clock this morning. one was just issued a few moments ago for wayne, wilson and johnston counties as well and that's good until 7:15. so the main threat with these storms that we have moving through, this squall line here the dark red you can see is the wind. so winds gusting upwards of 58 miles per hour. the heavy rain also nothing to joke about either. we've seen some very heavy downpour moving through the area around smithfield right now some heavy
6:30 am
towards the east. in the next few minutes please use caution because we'll see some of the heavy showers continuing. the rain is going to wrap up later today and temperatures going to stay mild. it's 54 right now in raleigh, 53 in durham, 55 in fayetteville. those winds gusting upwards of 20 miles per hour for most of us and temperatures going to stay warm today. so this is already a huge difference from what we were actually dealing with yesterday. temperatures around 59 degrees some heavy rain still at 8 a.m. but we dry out this afternoon with highs in the low 60s. let's take a look at that morning drive now. we are seeing some rain starting to cause some issues on some roads definitely making things a little bit slow going right now. so please be careful outside. you're taking a live look at your current road conditions there and we've got another camera showing you that traffic is actually moving okay in a lot of spots but that's not the case everywhere.
6:31 am
slow. our traffic map is showing things looking primary okay. we have a couple incidents and it may slow you down in some spots and eaves got one on i-540. that little red icon. we're seeing the water starting to pond and collect. standing water may be an issue. so please be careful. >> thanks so much. our team coverage of this round of weather issues continues this morning. emma wright is riding around in our mobile news tracker. what are you seeing out there, emma? >> well we're seeing these heavy showers really kind of pop up. we've been driving around for a couple of hours and the rain will taper off and then it will really pour in buckets. we're on six forks road right now. things are were a little dicey the closer you got to the airport and the rain is still
6:32 am
coming down for so long we've been seeing the water ponding on the roads. we've seen the cars in front of us and on the side of us hit some puddles. it is a possibility if you're driving to fast and come up on some standing water. we're also seeing an issue with the wind. it's really blowing the car around even on a road here like six forks where you're generally not going very fast you can still feel the wind blow the car back and forth. we're in a jeep which is a pretty heavy car. so if we're getting blown around i can only manual how folks in the smaller are lighter cars feel. so if you're headed out and about this morning you want to you take it slow, you want to give yourself some extra time and you want to be prepared to find those standing pools of water on the road and make sure you drive slowly through them. we're going to continue to keep an eye on these roads and bring
