language for talking a teen off a bridge. he tried to get the 16 year-old down. the department of transportation camera picked up the officer communicating with the teen with sign language. witnesses tell us the teen came down after the officer helped her communicate with another woman who they brought to the scene. >> it showed that he took a lot of patience. he didn't let whatever he had on his mind interfere with what was going on. >> police say she was not harmed and is getting checked out. the officer has not been identified. the sentencing phase will continue tomorrow for traveon smith. the 23 year-old who killed a mother in her home. prosecutors are seeking the death penalty. her daughter was 8 at the time of her mom's murder. she had to sleep with a feeling fan that night because it was noticey. while the precipitation is gone for now, another freezing night ahead with how cold it'll be by morning. >> at or right below freezing.

thing, things starting to crowd up there on franklin street as the basketball game duke and north carolina finished. duke won again. probably not as crowded but class doesn't start till noon tomorrow. meanwhile elsewhere around central north carolina, we've got upper 30s and low 40s so it's cold, just not as cold as the teens and 20s that we've seen at times this winter so high pressure building in after some early morning rain this morning and that high will keep us dry for the next few days but it's also gob that bring some re-inforcements of cool air so tomorrow will be cold in the morning and chilly during the day. completely sunny skies, 32 through 6 and 7:00 a.m. with windchills here in blue in the upper 20s up to 34 at 8:30. 7 at 9:00 a.m. with the windchill at 34. as cold as this is,

duke squeezing by the heels. a thriller in chap the hill. the blue devils pull the upset tarheels. >> amy live on franklin street. hi, amy. >> sharon, sean, there are a lot of disappointed carolina fans out here now filling franklin street. a lot headed home at this point. franklin street is usually really crowded for these games. the bars and restaurants were packed this evening. a lot of times after games when there's a victory at hand, they head to the streets and that's why police say they had extra officers on hand to handle things.
