watching. we begin with breaking news, the first case of the zika virus infection has turned up in north this according to the north carolina health department can. officials say the adult patient recently traveled to a country hampered by the mosquito born virus and told that the person's symptoms have been resolved but to protect the patient their identity is not being released. at this time no one has been infected with the virus while in north carolina but doctors say we'll probably see additional cases. travel

the defense rested its case. the jury convicted smith of murdering huggins-jones in 2013 inside of her apartment. yesterday his step sister took the stand and told the jury how his dad used to beat him constantly which was followed by series of teachers and psychologists who talked about exams done during his younger years. the defense hopes this makes their case for mitigating circumstances to avoid the death penalty. couch appears in a crop today. his lawyer argued his upbringing impaired his ability to tell from right to wrong. he later fled to mexico and a judge just ruled his case will be moved to an adult court. the faa is investigating a deadly plane crash in union county. it crashed about 7 o'clock.

person onboard the aircraft. investigators say a 68-year old was en route to daytona when he crash. a person was hit by a vehicle about 6:00 last night at the intersection of gather other road and rush street. the victim was taken to wakemed for treatment. some scary moments overnight after shots rang out. the officers found a car that was riddled of bullets. investigators believe two men who knew each other were involved in the incident but no charges have been filed. raleigh police also respond to go a shooting last night. they found a man shot there. he was taken to the hospital for treatment and is is expected to make a full recovery. there have been no arrests in this case either. new developments in the fbi investigation in the deadly mass shooting innen san bernardino in california. the fbi is searching the home of one of the brothers.

man admitted to murdering his wife in wake forest. that is according to warrants released. the documents also reveal his wife was hit with a hammer and strangled. police arrested him in mississippi after authorities say he robbed a bank there. no word whether charges will be filed in an accident that killed a member of a road crew in moore county. the 50-year old was hit by a car in a work zone. he died and a second worker was also injured and is recovering. not guilty pleas from two la be police officers accused of sexually assaulting women while on duty. the two chargeded with repeatedly sexually assaulting four different people between 2008 and 2011. police say they were attacked after being arrested on narcotics related charges. an attorney for the

language on his own. a teenager remains in critical condition this morning after this helicopter crash near hawaii, good samaritans who saw the crash jumped into the water to rescue the five people. >> i started running the opposite way towards it and saw it splash down, the blades stopped, two people popped out. i jumped in. there were three people in the water, there was a woman in the water. >> no word yet on what caused the crash. the faa is is expected to investigate. american suffers when it comes to getting good night's rest. one in three do not get enough sleep this was especially true among african americans and people living in the southeastern area of the united states.
