so here's a look at your fast forecast areas of fog this morning, 53, back to 54 by noon and through 3:00. a few showers at 3:00 overall a little bit more rain possible by 6:00 for your evening drive home. i'll get to more and how long you'll need the umbrellas for coming up. here's i-40 and aviation parkway we're starting to see a few more cars out there but it is that time of morning now, 6 a.m. and more cars starting to get to their morning destination. now, we do have an accident this is the only accident that we're monitoring right now and this is on u.s. 64, 264 bypass westbound heading into raleigh. two lanes closed near the smithfield road exit. if you are driving in this direction i'd encourage you to move over as much as you can or maybe take 64 as an alternate. another check on traffic and weather in about ten minutes.

the six people killed in a random shooting spree in michigan and getting a better picture of the man accused of the crime. >> police say the suspect is an uber driver who carried out a shooting rampage during the course of 7 hours. he did not know the people he shot six of whom died. >> a michigan community gathered sunday to remember the lives lost. dorthy brown was one of the women killed outside a restaurant. neighbors remember her as a kind neighborhood. also killed were sister in laws, mary joe and mary lounye. she in the air force was a retired teacher. 17-year old tyler smith and his 53-year old dad were shot and

a dealership. he was a high school senior. prayers continue for two other people injured including a mother of 3-shot where the rampage began at an apartment complex. >> i heard something hit the siding so i checked out the back window and saw the car driving off. so i look out here and there's a woman laying on the ground. >> the suspect is due back in court today. today the man durham police shot a toddler in a drive by shooting is set for court. officers say 26-year old laney fired shots into an at home day care last week, a bullet hit a little boy right in the leg. wncn's emma wright joins us live from the durham courthouse with an update on this story. emma. >> police say the shooting wasn't random but say the little boy wasn't the intended target. neighbors tell us they're very

shot into a house full of kids. >> it was just like it was something out of new jack city. >> nervousness in this durham neighborhood after police say 26-year old laney fired off several rounds into the day care. >> it was like they just shot and broad daylight and didn't even care. >> police say one of the bullets hit a toddler in the leg. a friend of the owner says she tried to protect the kids >> she thought it was fire crackers and when she saw the bullets and debris she grabbed the kids and hit the floor with the babies. >> police say the toddler has recovered from his injuries and is out of the hospital. the day care's owner didn't want to talk on camera but says she shut her business down indefinitely. durham pd says laney a convicted felon is facing a slew of charges including assault with a deadly weapon. neighbors say it makes them mad someone was so reckless.

two from time to time throughout the overnight and into the early morning hours but for the most part right now just a little midst falling and some of you dealing with pretty dense fog. so a check of visibility five miles here in wake county. and checking in with johnston county you're also looking at visibility of a half mile even less than that towards goldsboro, rocky mount roanoke rapids you're looking at pretty clear drive in right now. now, that can change throughout the morning and we've seen it fluctuate. we're also going to see the temperatures fluctuate, 51 in raleigh and littleton right now. 46 in sanford, pinehurst, raeford and fayetteville you're both in the mid-50s. we'll stay right around 53 at 8 a.m., 54 at noon, that's going to be our afternoon high then we're back to 50 by 6 p.m. the best chance for rain today actually going to develop for the evening drive home. so let me show you the setup. we have this cold front that's

area today bringing the chance for a few late day showers and then that's going to hang off to our south this area of low pressure going to hang along the east coast tomorrow which means more showers. so as far as the timing is concerned it late this afternoon and then early tomorrow morning for the wet weather. here we are at 7 a.m. pretty cloudy conditions still likely some fog. through lunchtime we should be for the most part on the dry side then we see the rain chances start to develop around the sand hills those going to continue throughout the afternoon and evening hours. overnight steadier rain starts to move in. midnight rain likely. if it continues long enough we could see the water start to pond on the roadways. so tomorrow morning's commute could be a slow moving one because of the rain as well. now, the good news is most of the rain should move out as we head towards tomorrow afternoon leaving us with just a lingering shower as we head towards the afternoon hours. so 54 in raleigh today 53 in durham, 57 in fayetteville.

>> in any way possible physically leaping on him, punching him, hitting him with things, throwing him. >> the prosecution also brought in smith's former parole officer and two jail officers who say smith had multiple run ins with them while he was incarcerated. some tense moments after police evacuated a neighborhood. the paper said that the stand off began when an officer reported hearing a gunshot from a home. the incident lasted for nearly 3 hours. fortunately no one was injured and police say they do not question to file any charges in this case. the pair inside the home told officers they were asleep the entire time and had no idea that the swat team was outside. a 39-year old man is dead after troopers say he crashed driving his car in reverse on i-40. it happened around 3:00 yesterday morning in wake county. he was driving backwards and collided with a chevy.

in the chevy suffered some minor injuries. at last check two bicyclist recess in critical condition after a crash. after troopers say a car hit four cyclists charges pending against that driver. today the state nacp will hold a news conference about the new congressional maps. the district were redrawn it all comes after a 3 judge panel threw out the original maps. now, north carolina voters will go to the policy twice during the next several months. the march 15th primary is still set for all elections except for congress, that will happen on june 7th. today the supreme court will hear cases for the first time since the death of associate justice scalia. the court right now has 8 members. president

four hours later a father and he teenage son were killed at a car dealership and minutes later four people were killed, another injured at a cracker barrel, an uber passengers who rode with him described his behavior. >> he got maybe a mile from my house he got a telephone call, and after that telephone call he started driving really erraticly. once he came to a stop, i jumped out of the car and ran away. >> uber confirmed that he has passed a background check and does not have a criminal record and investigators do not know a motive yet. he dues in court today and among the details that we've learned a source with knowledge of the investigation told cnn that he picked up and dropped off uber passengers between shootings. investigators think he was

after the final tack. well the search is on for answers after investigators found a man shot to death johnson was just released from prison. he died at the hospital. the shooting happened around 12:30 yesterday morning in the area near charmain street. today a wake forest woman is expected in court after authorities say she assaulted a police officer and a k-9. the 42-year old is charged with among other things assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. officers responded to a domestic dispute at the home on elm avenue yesterday morning and then she assaulted one of the officers when put in the patrol car she then banged on a kennel and screamed at the dog. tomorrow raleigh's police union will discuss whether or not to boycott an upcoming beyonce concert. this comes after the cinder's controversial super bowl performance. the

what is going to impact more of you outside this morning is some fog. look at this the tops of the buildings starting disappear downtown behind a blanket of fog this morning. if you're getting ready to head out the door know that the dense fog is impacting a large amount of our viewing area. so slow down and get to your destination safely. we were talking about a few showers yesterday evening. they have moved and we're seeing a shower back to the west of chatham county. now, speaking of chatham county look at this visibility at 3-10th of a mile now. just a couple hundred feet around sanford, so again, drive slowly especially if you're around the triangle or further south. as far as the temperatures concerned, we're at 54 right now in raleigh, 46 though in clayton also in the mid-40s around sanford, littleton you're at 51, fayetteville 55.

mid-50s around pinehurst and raeford this morning. now, temperatures aren't going to do a lot throughout the day. they're really just fluctuating 53 at 8, 10:00 this morning then we'll start to see the temperatures start to slowly drop 53 at 4:00, 50 at 6, and you'll notice the best chances for rain going to develop for so a cold front is moving across the few showers with this front later today into the evening hours. now, watch what happens the front doesn't move a lot tomorrow. that's going to be near us tomorrow bringing more chances for rain not only for the overnight hours tonight but right on through tuesday morning. so keep this in mind. dry out there this morning an isolated shower around lunchtime around the sand hills more in the way of wet weather throughout the evening
