we began with a severe weather alert, the now deadly storms marching across the southeast are targeting our area through much of the day tomorrow. good evening, i am chandra maroney. >> thank you for joining us, you can see the finals of the tornadoes fueled by these storms. >> the system of a direct impact on us tomorrow with the biggest threat being damaging wind -- winds from up or the appeared the school systems in north carolina will be closing early tomorrow. wayne and edgecombe, other school systems are keeping an eye on the threat for severe weather. this is the message on the chatham county schools website saying there is a possibility for early dismissal as well. the latest on the system and the timing of it we start with chief meteorologist, wes hohenstein. good evening, the system tonight still bringing strong

mississippi through alabama and georgia. it has weakened some, but the impact here tonight do not look like they have changed much as we headed to tomorrow. this is not the snow, and sleep we had a week ago. this is also not the severe weather outbreak we had five years ago that brought 30 tornadoes to the state. i got that question a few times tonight. it is our biggest threat of severe weather, so far this season. even though it is still f ebruary. tonight, all is calm, not a lot showing up on the radar, but it is still cloudy, foggy, misty and drizzly outside. it's still chilly. one of the things that is going to start this whole process that leads us into tomorrow is this warm front. that will move through, and bring us unusually warm weather around 70 degrees tomorrow. it is also going to bring us that unusual threat of severe weather in late february. this area of low pressure will slide over north carolina, combined with the moist air and warm energized atmosphere to bring us the

we remain under an enhanced risk. we very rarely go in and enhanced risk. just lasted -- just last week we were under a slight risk but we bumped up to that third level enhanced risk in the past 24 hours. the worst weather will be through 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. that timing has not changed nor has the results. 70-mile hour winds with the thunderstorms and some of those thunderstorms could produce tornadoes. severe weather, like this, is never a slamdunk, but we all need to be weather aware tomorrow. i am most concerned about the winds. there is a very high chance we could have some of those damaging winds. there is a good chance we could have some tornadoes. this is not going to be a hail producing storm but wind, tornadoes and heavy rain all things i am watching out for. in addition to tomorrow morning's commute being foggy, not severe storms tomorrow morning, for the commute, but

temperatures they warm from 48 at 6 a.m. up to 57 at 9 a.m. winds will start to kick up but it is just rain in the morning. though severe storms later in the morning. i will take you through tomorrow hour by hour and talk about what the good weather will be, after the storm sleep tomorrow. >> we want to show you some of the damage from that wind. this is more video coming into our newsroom from st. james parish and the wheezing on about 50 miles south of baton rouge. >> unfortunately at least two peoples are dead and dozens injured after a tornado ripped through army park there. you can see extensive damage, debris everywhere. tonight, search and rescue teams are still working to help victims in this area. >> about 30 miles to the north, heavy winds damaged businesses in prairieville. we are told there are significant power outages in this area. >> the weather picked up real hard. we walk through the glass door to take a look, as soon as we got to the door, i could see the top of the tornado coming down going across the road

where we were at right there. >> at the height of the store more than 20,000 homes lost power. >> this comes at some communities, in our area, are still reeling through -- from storms that rolled through last week. >> piles of debris still lined the street. wncn's and michael hyland is life there tonight, weiss along with the cleanup? are they ready for a stronger round? >>reporter:it has been going on since last week, the sun was not even up when those winds picked up entry started coming down. just take a look here, they were working through last weekend to get all of this out here and ready for crews to come along and pick it all up, has not happened yet. they are hoping this doesn't happen more. >> it crushed it. >>reporter:just one sign of the damage waited to be repaired on ashley ridge drive. >> having experience what we experience this past week, my anxiety is up >>reporter:rosemary and her daughter megan were home last tuesday, just trying to start the day.

and before long i hear gushes of wind. >>reporter: soon after -- >> bang, boom, there comes the tree >>reporter:pine trees came down damaging this workshop and the roof of the home next door. >> that is why it was screaming at everyone to get in the hall closet. >>reporter:all of the stress of the storm and the cleanup a spokesperson for duke energy says the company's meteorologists are tracking the storm. are prepared to deploy crews to power outages. governor pat mccrory has placed the states emergency teams on standby. urging people to plan for a place to take shelter. >> we used our storm shelter for the first time ever in this house, which is our hall closet. make sure there is more room in there this time. >>reporter:meanwhile, hoping it would not be needed >> the adjuster supposed to come on thursday, there is no reason for him to come other

happened. >>reporter:especially if more trees come down tomorrow, duke energy acknowledged there could be power outages across the state. the governor is also encouraging schools to review their severe weather plans especially what to do in case there is a tornado. live in raleigh, michael hyland, wncn news now as we told you at the top of the newscast, school systems in our area are keeping an eye on the system, wayne and edged in county schools will be dismissing early but we have reached out to other school systems including wake county they all have severe weather policies in place, and many of them plan on reviewing those tomorrow morning. you can start your day with an update with wncn today starting at 4:30 a.m. important things you can do ahead of time, have an emergency plan but what does that mean? know how everyone will get warning alerts, communicate how you will get in touch with one another if you split up and know how you will let the others know you are safe. you need to have a designated safe meeting place after an emergency, you should also have access to batteries, water and prescriptions >> we have important tips

apple has been pushing back since the fbi request and down last week health officials say sexual transmission of the zika virus is more common the first. the cdc is investigating 14 new cases of zika virus in the us all of which appear to be cases of sexual transmission. >> in each of the episodes, a man was traveling to a zeke affected area, he developed symptoms that were consistent with zika virus, within two weeks of the man symptoms of the female partner developed symptoms consistent with zika virus. >> several of the cases of all pregnant women, just last week we learned of a first reported case here in north carolina. republican state house speaker says he is looking at how the legislature could override a charlotte city council decision allowing transgender people to choose bathrooms and private businesses that correspond to their gender identity. the council has gone against all common sense and created a major public safety issue with its vote on monday.

today the presidential search process followed the board of governors policy and the state law. spellings formally takes over as president this coming tuesday. this is definitely this is something you should not do drive towards a tornado. check this out. there is a tornado and these drivers dodged one this afternoon near baton rouge. drivers had no choice but to stop. some of them brave enough to record it, thankfully no one hurt in this incident. and as we have been telling you all night and there are deaths associated with this storm system that is moving our way. chief meteorologist, wes hohenstein tracking the severe weather that will impact us tomorrow. scary stuff there, but as we head into tomorrow the storms that are hitting the south are not going to be the exact same thing when they get here. they will be a little bit weaker, but still capable of producing severe weather but we do not need to go into tomorrow being afraid of what is coming we need to be weather aware. this is one of those days where we will use those smart phones to our advantage.

smart phones are able to get weather alerts so when those warnings are issued we can be smart about it and move on to see the great weather we've got coming later this week. tonight the calm before the storm. not a lot showing up on the radar, there is still drizzle and mist, still followed and it is still chilly outside. we will undergo a lot of changes overnight, the storms are hitting our friends down in georgia, parts of alabama, still back in mississippi and louisiana. look at this, they have snow in missouri, and parts of arkansas. we are not going to have snow, but even tonight the severe storms. the red box is here that is a tornado warning in southern parts of alabama, the yellow boxes you see sprinkled around those are severe thunderstorm warnings they are going to get some strong winds. there is even flood warnings. all of that could be in our recipe box tomorrow as the storm heads here. this all starts with warming temperatures overnight.

we have been there at 45 degrees for the last eight hours. just down i 40 into wilmington it is 60 degrees. overnight, temperatures are going to hold may be even come up a couple of degrees as that warm air starts to push into central north carolina. as it starts to get warmer and warmer tomorrow, our atmosphere is going to destabilize. the storms, later in the morning, rain for the morning commutes, and some foggy conditions. look at our visibility's right now. most of us have his abilities that are less than 5 miles. it is going to be a foggy morning commutes, and yes it will be wet, but not stormy. we will start off at around 40 degrees at 6 a.m. by 9 a.m. we leap up to 57, then 65 at noon on our way to a high of 70 degrees. that is 25 degrees warmer than where we were today. that type of drastic warm-up, in february, means we are going to have some drastic wind. we are going to have some drastic storms possible especially as we had to around lunchtime. even outside of the thunderstorms we are going to

wind gusts up to 45 miles per hour for almost everyone and that is why we have a wind advisory in effect between 9 a.m. and midnight tomorrow. a very busy weather day. as i mentioned, it all gets started after this warm front pushes through. pushing away the cool air, the cool stable air, and bringing in the warm unstable air and matters will not be helped because this area of low pressure will come right over us. if you think about it, it's an area of low pressure that in a dip -- different type of winter weather situation brings us k now. this is a totally different situation. it is a rain event and storm event at times. at 6 a.m. you can see many of us having wet weather, some storms are to come in from the south, you see this intense line of rain right here, from 1 0-12 o'clock that will push through to the north. and then out of the west will come another line of storms that will push through. that could produce some damaging wind gusts and maybe even an isolated tornado ahead of the cauldron. i

through, and then by six- 8 o'clock it is pushing out of our area and that is when we will be able to sound the all clear. the timing of the worst weather from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. by 11 o'clock the front is through, and thursday a totally different day. still windy, but sunny, dry and chilly. and enhanced risk is where most of our areas still lies. between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. watching out for strong wind gusts as well as an isolated tornado. as i mentioned earlier the only two things i want you to do tomorrow, keep an eye on the radar. you can do that through our weather app and i want you to also make sure your phone can get weather alerts if there is a tornado warning issued. a lot of the smart phones today can do that. it's been a while since we have had to worry about that. tomorrow is one of those days. it is a windy, cloudy, wet, warm day that will also be stormy. a busy weather day.

by thursday it also cools down a lot a high of 54. still going to be windy, chilly, you will need those caused by thursday. friday even colder with a high of 38 -- 48, watch out friday morning 32 degrees as you leave for work and school. saturday morning 28 degrees, that is our coldest time on the seven-day forecast we will warm to 49 during the day on saturday, 58 on sunday we are back up to near 60 on monday with some small chances of rain as we get into next week. of course, march starts next week you know there are sayings about march coming in like a lion and february is leaving like a lion. we have some stormy weather pretty unusual for this time of year. >> hopefully everybody's getting prepared for that. >> push alerts are good. the trial is underway for congress sports reporter lawsuit against the national hotel. she is asking a jury to award her $75 million after a man took video of her through a peephole and posted it online. her attorney said the hotel willingly rants the request for michael barrett to be roomed
