>> let's get to meteorologist alyssa corfont with the very latest. >> this advisory sticks around through 2:00 this afternoon are, and you don't have to look closely now. this camera really just bouncing all over the place. as we look towards downtown we are seeing a mix of clouds and sunshine but the wind is really going to tell the story throughout the afternoon. 49 degrees right now. latest gust in raleigh 32 miles per hour, 35 in durham, 29 miles per hour in roxboro and south of raleigh we're looking at 36 miles per hour in fayetteville and 32 miles per hour in raeford. let's get to the advisory again in effect until 2:00 this afternoon. gusts could continue to strengthen up to about 45 miles per hour this afternoon. so we saw a lot of destruction yesterday with the storms that came through. now, if you still have anything out and about that could continue to get blown around throughout the afternoon.

starting right here, we're told there used to be a barn right here but you can see what used to be in it over here where the roof of this house is completed taken off. we've talked to the folks who live around here and say they are just beginning to comprehend what happened. after a night of waiting and wondering the morning shed new light on the damage wednesday's storm brought. a trail of debris led from one disaster to another. >> you walk up to you just can't believe it. it's what you see on tv, it's what happens to others in other states not here. >> waverly barns 82-year old mother rode out the storm in her bathroom. he came to her house and when he arrived he found help he didn't even ask for. >> people already here that came from chapel hill, raleigh and everywhere.

the national weather service is expected here some time this morning early this afternoon they will assess the damage and determine if it was in fact a tornado that caused all of this damage. for now reporting live in oxford i'm emma wright, wncn news. well, there were also a lot of scary moments for neighbors in henderson. this video was posted of what appears to be a funnel cloud. the national weather service is expected in hard hit areas to survey the dam and confirm whether any tornados did touch down across the region. >> the hard work continues for property owners from wednesday's storms and that's especially the case for folks in the durham county area. we're live from north durham with more. >> reporter: i'm in a subdivision just north of durham and the woman who is in this home behind me says she

we caught up with the numerous duke energy workers as she restored power to some of the hardest hit areas throughout the day, night and morning. >> outages from the storms also prompted two wayne county schools to delay classes by three hours today. in fact when the storms hit on wednesday school districts throughout the triangle and the state dismissed student early. wake, johnson cumberland schools were among the district that released early but in moore county students had to stay put and they wound up taking shelter in the hallways, students lined the hall necessary a tucked position covering their heads for about a half an hour and busses in wake county hit the roads early yesterday as schools released 3 hours ahead of their normal schedule. parents believe educators made the smart decision >> i was concerned for their safety because we've had

and i'm glad that i'm having the opportunity to get her early. it was a similar scene in durham where threats of a tornado prompted several businesses and schools to shut down early. the district increased the two hours to 3 hours to get kids home faster and saver. well, at least four people were killed as that system moved my virginia. experts believe multiple tornados cut a six-mile path of destruction through the eastern part of that state. one of the hardest hit regions is the evergreen area, dozens were injured and witness withs say they saw tornados punch through tossing homes from their foundations and ripping away the roofs. >> you see all that fire in it. >> i ain't never seen nothing like that. >> among the victims who died two men and a child. and at least one person died has the powerful storms roared

emergency crews say a treetop pebbled over and killed a 58-year old man wednesday afternoon. investigators say michael ganes had stopped to pick up storm debris when a tree on the side of the road fell on top of him. this week nearly 30 tornados touched down from the deep south up through the east coast. according to the national weather service multiple twisters left damage in communities all throughout texas, louisiana, mississippi and alabama as well as florida since wednesday killing three people, all three were in louisiana. well the excitement is building here in wncn. we're just a few days away from becoming your official new home for cbs news, sports and entertainment. >> starting monday we will be called cbs north carolina and it will be right here where you'll find all of your favorite prime time shows including the big

they're against it because we are in an election year. state lawmakers considering a bill that would make it easier for patients to gain access to the medications that they need. a legislative committee is looking at the measure that would put some regulations on what's called step therapy. it requires patients try cheaper medications to see if they work even if their doctor prescribed a more expensive drug. the bill would provide exceptions in certain circumstances. >> i have children, i have grandchildren. people -- all part move family affected by this disease. i hope that the drugs being developed today will help them have a better quality of life. >> some of the exceptions include if the patient has tried the drug before and it hasn't work. lawmakers could take the bill up during session later this year. another grim outlook from the world health organization regarding the zika virus. the
