america. >> planes are bussing overhead in miami to combat zika. the last-ditch effort by residents to keep crews away that their homes. >> hey, hey, we don't want no spray. hey, hey. good morning from the studio 57 newsroom at cbs news headquarters here in new york. good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. we begin with breaking news this morning. overnight, conducted its fifth nuclear test and that it is now capable of putting nuclear warheads on ballistic missiles. earlier, earthquake-like activity was reported near north korea's nuclear test site. president obama says any provocative actions by north korea would have serious consequence. and china, north korea's only major ally, says it resolutely opposes the test.

>> reporter: good morning. this is north korea's largest nuclear test yet. according to the south korean. the bomb on hiroshima was 15 killi tons. they say it has the ability to be mounted to a missile. we really don't know if that is actually true, but if it is, it is a step closer to being able to fire a nuclear weapon as a test this year alone which is unprecedented and comes after three missiles fired earlier this week successfully. the fact they are ramping up could be a sign of desperation or a sign of confidence in their technology that is clearly improving and they are essentially thumbing their nose, if you will, at international sanctions which are the toughest yet that were meant to halt

now the they feel it's them against the world and the nuclear weapons are the only way to level the playing field. now as expected, today's test caused a whiplash of backlash around the world but it's unclear what the next strategy will be to try to stop the north koreans since existing sanctions didn't do the job. >> certainly adrianna diaz on the phone, thank you. the survey by quinnipiac university found donald trump tied with hillary clinton in florida and trump leads clinton by a point in ohio but clinton leads trump by five points in pennsylvania. on the campaign trail, the candidates are going after each other with sharper criticism.

activists inviting the candidate to write something so she wrote the words i approve this message. the county did not approve and issued a warrant for her arrest. weijia jiang, cbs news, washington. funding to combat the zika virus is likely to be one of the top subjects when president obama meets next week with the four congressional leaders. this morning, aerial spraying for zika carrying mosquitoes takes place in miami and the spraying was originally postponed because angry residents fear the pesticide may be worse than the virus. >> i'm packing up my 4-year-old daughter and we are driving home to alabama, even though this is home, i've been here 17 years. >> so far, there have been more than 55 locally transmitted cases of the zika virus in florida. more than 30 tourists trapped on cable cars in the french alps have been rescued

people were trapped when the cars stalled. 65 people were rescued late yesterday by four helicopters, but the operation was suspended for the night. first aid workers with food and water spent the night with the remaining tourists. the pentagon says a secret operation by u.s. special forces failed to rescue two western hostages in afghanistan. the hostages, an american and an australian, were kidnapped last month as they traveled from the am kabul. shortly after the rescue was launched but the hostages were not where they were thought to be. u.s. forces killed seven enemy fighters rb the faa is warning airline passengers not to turn on or charge a late model samsung smartphone when they are flying. the faa also warned passengers not to put the galaxy note 7 in their checked bags. there have been numerous reports of the newest note catching fire. last week, samsung ordered a

tragedy for the first time. the story from kenneth craig. >> i came up here shortly after the first attack. >> reporter: this is where artist todd stone watched the twin towers collapse on the roof of his studio just blocks from ground zero. >> my wife, who was with me is said your job as an artsist is to paint. >> reporter: he photographed, sketched and painted the day's water color paintings eventually became a series he calls witness. dust from the towers blanketed his studio. he rubbed the debris into his heart. >> it allowed me to have a physical connection to the loss that was suffered here by putting my hands in that dust and rubbing it into the paper. >> reporter: artist e.j. weiss also witnessed the attacks and channeled his pain through his paint brush. >> i know a lot of artist who saw that had those feelings.
