win manner apartments in 3900 block of liberty heights avenue. officials say two residents suffered smoke inhalation, one of them an elderly woman that suffered serious burns. >> we also treated one firefighter, who fell from a second floor window. while battling the fire. he suffered burns to his hands and some other musculoskeletal injuries. >> two residents taken to bayview burn center. firefighter taken to shock trauma and is in serious condition. no word on the cause of the fire. >> there is also breaking news out of washington d.c. tonight. fbi is investigating whether a man, tried to ignite his shoes, on a flight from dc to denver. official said air marshal on the flight apparently restrained the man. the transportation security administration said the man is currently being interviewed by law enforcement in denver. >> our other big story in maryland. baltimore county residents still without water after an

electrical fire outside of a towson water pumping station. karen parks joins us live in towson with an update. karen? >>well, jennifer, the power has been restored. and some are seeing water pressure. but folks are still asking to conserve because it could be several hours before everyone has water. and that's because tens of millions of gallons of water will have to be replenished to restore water to hundreds of thousands of residents that are without water here in central baltimore county. this after flames from underground electrical fire went up a utility pole around 2:00 this morning. and took out two feeder cables that power the pumping station, here at the reservoir on hillen road. more than 17 schools were closed. and dozens of businesses shut down. >> once we can start to pump water, some people will get it immediately. other people will get water as the tanks that are further out fill up. >> the cause of the fire is still unknown.

reporting live in towson. karen parks fox 45 news "late edition". >> thank you karen. >> other big news today. former governor robert ehrlich kicks off his campaign to get his old job back. today he formally announced that he will face off with incumbent governor o'malley. ehrlich said he wants to cut the state's sales tax and help small businesses create jobs. he told fox 45 why he believes the heavily democratic maryland is once again ready for a republican governor. >> in this day and age, particularly given unemployment, instability out there in the marketplace. people are looking more at issues and positions on issues rather than party. >> ehrlich will continue his campaign announcement week tour with stops in western maryland tomorrow. and eastern shore on friday. >> meanwhile governor o'malley is reacting to today's announcement by bob ehrlich to enter the governor race. john rydell has the latest on that from annapolis.

>> looking very much like a candidate, governor o'malley poses for pictures at the city dock. then appearing before reporters, he welcomes ehrlich's entry into the race. and incumbent is anxious to defend his record. >> we have gone four years in a row without increasing tuition for kids going to the university of maryland schools. >> o'malley is taking swipes at the republican money it comes to state spending. >> we have reduced spending 3 percent in the o'malley brown four years general fund spending. increased by 33 percent under the former governor. >> governor o'malley said he is hoping to debate the former governor on several occasions, both on tv and radio to highlight the differences between the two candidates. >> the two campaigns cannot agree on how or when those debates will take place. >> under what conditions would you debate bob ehrlich on radio or tv? >> i don't know, with a moderator and serious discussion about the choices we need to make as a people to move forward. >> outside of the statehouse

reaction to a ehrlich o'malley rematch falls along party lines. >> the ehrlich announcement is great news for maryland because bob ehrlich is the only thing standing between maryland and a giant tax increase next year. >> o'malley is going to work hard. i think that he will be successful. >> gubernatorial campaign that is already in full swing. in annapolis, john rydell, fox 45 news "late edition". >> and that brings us to the question of the day. is the -- if the election were held today which candidate would you vote for. 59 percent say ehrlich. 25 percent say o'malley. and 16 say neither. gary writes on our website, o'malley has done a great job. guiding the state through historically bad economic times. >> but another viewer writes on facebook, he would vote for ehrlich. he is for smaller government, less burocracy and lower taxes. >> well an emotionally charged day in the lamont davis trial as the key witness takes the stand and later disappears.

crime and justice reporter joy lepola was there for the bizarre event. >> the 16-year-old at the center of the shooting of 5-year-old raven wyatt at the center of attention as she abruptly left court during a brief recess. as exits to courthouse east were being locked down. the mother of lamont davis' children blatantly ignored a judge's order to return to the stand. as deputies poured out of the building, the fear was hall was long gone. eventually deputies spotted her near a bus stop. restrained, the vulgarity continues. following the commotion outside of the courthouse, jurors were sent home for the day. and haul was ordered to return to the witness stand, tomorrow. >> i sure hope so. >> she seems agitated. can you explain it all?

>> can you comment on that? >> no, thank you. >> joy lepola, fox 45 news "late edition". >> hall was on the stand, she admitted the incident started with the intended target of the shooting apparently spat in her face and sought out friends to handle the situation. she told jurors it was not davis that opened fire last july. but a friend that nick-named murder. >> the humane society is offering a $2500 reboard information that leads to the attackers of a pit bull. the one-year-old dog was attacked with rocks and bricks, while tied to a post along greenspring avenue on easter sunday. detectives believe a group of 12 and 13-years-old is responsible. but like in many cases it seems witnesses are reluctant to get involved. >>you know we are seeing the problem, in northwest baltimore and it has happened time and time again. i don't know if there is just a lack of concern about this.

but unless citizens get involved, and provide information to the authorities. it will continue to happen over and over again. >> so far there is no indication who owns the dog. but she is expected to be put up for adoption as soon as the injuries heal. >> hot again today. will the unseasonably warm weather stick around? chief meteorologist vytas reid joins with us the forecast. >> yeah, looks like few more hours of warm temperatures, that includes tomorrow afternoon. and then big changes. cold front pushes through the state. could fire off good storms by the late afternoon. in fact,. looking at the clash of the titans. let the battle begin. warm air continues to be a strong force over the area. but it will clash with the cooler air from the west. strong storms along the frontal boundary will continue to track out of the midwest. by late afternoon, tomorrow, probably after 5 or clock six. thunderstorms fire up. and between seven and 10:00, potential for severe weather. highs in the lower 90s as you can see across the area. currently in the lower 80s.

fatalities in a car accident at the intersection of donaldson avenue and west baltimore annapolis road in seven ren. no word on the identities of the victims. >> rescue teams are working around the clock, but it is still too dangerous to try to reach the four men believed to be trapped still in a west virginia mine. crews are working to ventilate high levels of toxic gas before they send people inside. 25 others were killed during an explosion inside of the mine monday afternoon. rescue teams say they are hoping to find the men alive. but the situation is looking grim. >> we have two locations that we talked about earlier that people are unaccounted for. 3-in-1 area, one in the other. so they will fan out in two different areas. >> massey energy company owns the mine. it was fined more than $390,000 in the past year for serious violations. but the company said the mine was safe. >> our sister station in west virginia has been on the scene

the last few days. today, reporter rains spoke with the family of one missing coal miner. >> howard boone haynes is a miner assumed dead but still has not been positively identified. i talked to his daughter earlier today. she said that if there is anyway her father is still alive. he is fighting. erica pain stanley a coal miner's daughter. coal miner trapped inside of the mine with 25 died after an explosion. >> if there was anyway, shape or form he survived it. i guarantee you he would do everything he could to help everyone else. >> howard boone pain worked as a coal miner since 1977 going to work when he was 19. >> told us every day, that it wasn't worth the risk. but there was no way he could go somewhere else and make the money he made. >> in the past he was seriously injured three times, in the upper big branch mine. >> i kept telling him he was not going to get lucky every time. >> but erica and her mother say

the hardest part of dealing with the tragedy is not knowing if boone is dead or alive. >> nobody knows. they are assuming. we need to know these things. we have yet to hear from massey official. i got more information from my friends that were out here working on an ambulance. you would think they would have a little more respect. for these families. >> now, allka erica and the family can do is wait. >> our biggest concern right now is getting him out of the mine. giving him a proper burial and putting him to rest. killing me the most. knowing he is up there waiting. >> erica said her father was planning on retiring in three years. he loved hunting and fishing and being the typical country boy. now he leaves behind three grandchildren, as well as two children, his father and two sisters. reporting in raleigh county. back to you. >> thank you rudy. >> above average. that's the prediction for hurricane season this year. experts is are predicting eight

hurricanes to develop in the atlantic. of the four, could be major storms. experts expect most of the storms to be in the western atlantic or gulf of mexico. hurricane season starts june 1st. >> it feels like summer is already here. but things are getting ready to cool down for the weekend. we will check back with chief meteorologist vytas reid. vytas? >> no hurricanes here but thunderstorm activity potentially as we get into the late evening hours tomorrow. hot one out there today folks. again. but luckily it was not a humid day, wheat was very uncomfortable. it was more of a dry heat. looking at the high of 90 degrees. normally we should be at 62 degrees this time of year. so well above where we should be. the record high was 93 back in 1929. so we did not quite break it from the national weather service at bwi thurgood marshall airport. but downtown baltimore. those temperatures were in the lower 90s. no precipitation to talk about. but that changes by tomorrow. looking at the state temperatures.

93 degrees in baltimore. 90 in d.c. and 88 degrees in salisbury for a high. 92 in hagerstown. and 79 degrees in oakland. so very warm temperatures all across the mid-atlantic as we headed through the afternoon hours. currently we are still sitting on a mild note. 79 degrees at hagerstown. 82 in downtown baltimore. 80 dc. fredericksberg at 82. so still warm air, and probably dip down to the 70s tonight. warming back into the mid 80s tomorrow. and then that cold air moves in. or cooler air i should say. as we get toward thursday night, friday. you can see the changes in temperatures back to the northwest. from the 80s to the 60s, across cleveland and pittsburg. 50s in annapolis. 42 degrees in chicago. and as the cold front is pushing through parts of northwest and central indiana. it is running into the warmer temperatures. and it is helping to fire up the atmosphere. in fact, we are seeing it kind of like a steam shovel lifting the atmosphere, creating strong thunderstorms, stretching across

parts of eastern indiana, western portions of ohio, dayton getting good thunderstorms. down toward louisville. in our neck of the woods we will see mild air continues through overnight into tomorrow. until the front arrives and because of the potential for strong weather, we are under a slight risk category for strong storms down tomorrow. watch for. that as the warm air shifts east. this cold front will follow this direction to the east. bringing us the chance for strong thunderstorms late afternoon, probably after 7:00, 8:00. 9:00 hour. probably the best bet. cooler air moves in and then clear out friday. so it looks like opening day looks good. on the weekend, cooler temperatures. but it will be cooler compared to where we have been over the last several days. thunderstorms, will start to breakout as we go through the day thursday actual and evening. high of 85. 60 friday. for opening day. plenty of sunshine. saturday, sunday, monday. clear skies, temperatures in the
