fox 45 news "late edition". >> hello again, i am jeff barnd. >> and i am jennifer gilbert. a baltimore school police officer that chased gang members out of a gym, could be fired even though he stopped a confrontation. >> keith daniels standing by live at school headquarters where a hearing will decide his fate. what can you tell us. >> the officer's name is clyde boat writing. seven year police veteran and outspoken union representative. and tonight he believes that has made him a target. at issue, boatwright second job as a coach at carver high school, discovery made after an internal affairs investigation into allegations that he was not properly cleared for secondary employment. at a hearing last week, boatwright's boss chief toby goodwin offered boatwright the option to resign or termination.

boatwright did neither. >> i didn't do anything wrong. i protected children. and i will protect children again. whether i am a police officer or not. i will protect the children. >> well, questions over the job surfaced after boatwright's confrontation with gang members. at carver last november. when the group threatened one of the players. boatwright jumped between them. flashed his badge and then the gang ran away. meantime, the officer, is suspended tonight with pay. waiting for a hearing to learn whether or not he keeps his job. live now at school headquarters. keith daniels, fox 45 news "late edition". >> police make an arrest after a park heights home invasion. 19-year-old dante glad enbroke into a home in the 3200 block of spaulding avenue april 16. glad encorralled the family in the living room at gun point and shot 33-year-old kevin hall in

the head. hall survived. police say the incident is drug related. >> and 2 people are dead after a fire rips through a home in kent county. fire broke out at 1:00 along rock hall avenue. firefighters arrived, and found a man and woman on the sec floor. the cause of the fire is under investigation. >> three men who allegedly held machetes to teenager's throats are under arrest tonight. zachary lee, nikolaus and jack carroll all charged with assault and battery, threatened to boys and 2 girls at a camp site saturday. victims told police the three threatened them with machetes and a baseball bat and then stole their money. >> dozens of people protest out of a pg county jail after a woman accused of selling a $2 phone card, now is at-risk of being deported. >> the state of maryland is not arizona. we will not stand for this kind of agreements in our neighbor. >> residents say there is an

understanding that exchange for cooperation, local police will not enforce federal immigration rules in the hispanic community. but police say this time they had no choice. woman arrested during a crackdown after a spree of crime connected to the gang ms-13. >> so what happened to her is that she was picked up for selling $2 phone card to somebody that she thought she knew in a bad economy. because of that crime, she is now under risk of having her family destroyed. >> the woman's visa expired six years ago but she has three children, all are u.s. citizens so she will probably get to stay. once everything gets sorted out. >> school officials respond to the story you saw first on fox. reports of bullying at a west baltimore elementary school. so far this year, there have been 18 suspensions at gilmore. parents are outraged by all the violence in the classrooms. >> it is quite obvious the

principal, her hands are tied. she is suspended some 18 students. and i am willing to bet by the end of the school year, her school will labeled's persistent dangerous school. and she is going to suffer the consequences. >> we do not worry about whether or not a school will labeled. any type of name or thing like that. >> eight city schools already are labeled persistently dangerous. >> meantime, controversy in harford county over online access in the classrooms. the school board decided to change its policy after the a.c.l.u. claimed it was wrongfully blocking gay websites. some parents applaud the a.c.l.u., others say issues of sex simply do not belong in the classroom. >> i think when the board found out that legitimate sites were being blocked they did the right thing. followed the rule of law and unblocked them. >> it boggles my mind as to what the curriculum we're teaching our children that these kind of subjects, where religious subjects or what i call

anti-religious subjects, what do they bring them up for? what's the purpose? >> some parents are petitioning to reverse the policy. >> now that, brings us to the question of the day. should schools block websites dealing with gay issues? 14 percent say yes. 86 percent say no. itner from westminster writes. as a gay student, blocking these websites allows other students to have an excuse to block me. i don't think it is right. >> governor o'malley makes it official, kicking off his bid for reelection. >> i announce my candidacy for governor to move all of maryland forward. >> republican bob ehrlich announced his candidacy three weeks ago. o'malley has made the tough decisions to accelerate the economic recovery. >> virginia is celebrating the news that defense contractor northrup grummon makes its new headquarters in the common wealth. company chose virginia over maryland and said location and economics were the deciding

factors. virginia gave northrup more than $12 million in incentives. but the governor said he hopes to quickly get the money back. >> when you have 300 jobs that average in the neighborhood of about $200,000. we think it will bring 30 plus million dollars of tax revenues to the state. >> we would liked to have been able to attract the 300 corporate jobs to maryland. but the good news, is northrup has 11,000 people currently employed in maryland and they plan to grow that job base in maryland. >> republican bob ehrlich is criticizing o'malley's tax policies as unfriendly to business. and as a possible reason northrup chose them over maryland in relocating. >> the position of mayor in the city of annapolis comes with less power. the annapolis city council passed a bill giving it more control over the day-to-day operations of the city. the measure passed last night by a vote of 7-2. the council said the measure now increases the power of the

citizens. >> chilly temperatures to end today. >> very chilly. chief meteorologist vytas reid is here to tell us how low the temperatures will go as we head into the overnight. >> kind of low. as we go into the wee hours of the early morning hours. right now looking at hd radar. no activity out there. seeing breaks in the clouds. as we go through the next several hours. a little precipitation earlier this evening down in the southern portion of the state. but you can see the clouds breaking up. and that is the blanketing that would hold in the heat. as the clouds breakup, temperatures fall. national weather service issued a frost advisory. from harford county, northern baltimore county. carroll county to howard county and points west. as we see the temperatures dropping to the mid 30s overnight. so scattered frost if you planted flowers, cover them. because we could see frost. but right now, looking at 50 in downtown baltimore. temperatures will drop quickly now that the clouds are breaking. tomorrow morning, temperatures top out in the mid to lower 60s. breezy out there. but the sunshine will be there.

warmer temperatures ahead. details in the forecast coming up. >> maryland changes the way it will evaluate teachers. the state school board agreed today to start the process of changing how teachers are evaluated. under the new plans student achievement makes up for 50 percent of the evaluations. the changes will make the state eligible for some $250 million in federal funding. >> road work on the chesapeake bay bridge is almost complete. transportation authority said the final deck segment was installed last week. that means steel plates will be removed from the westbound lanes before the memorial day weekend. >> everything should be complete however by the fall. and it includes new railings, overhead signals and a lot of electrical work. >> baltimore's newest sports team is having tryouts this weekend. the baltimore charm, the newest team to enter the lingerie football league is looking for

>> the top brass financial giant goldman sachs were up against the wall of bipartisan outrage, out and out, outrage on capitol hill. we have a blow by blow account. >> committee chairman levin issued a sweeping indictment of goldman accusing it of betray raing investors and pushing the economy into crisis. >> misuse of exotic and complex financial structures helped to spread toxic mortgages throughout the financial system. and when the system finally collapsed. under the weight of the toxic mortgages. goldman profited from the

collapse. >> chief complaint was that goldman sold investments in packages or derivatives of mortgage loans even though it sometimes bet the very same investments would lose value. a process called shorting. and senator levin coined one with a expletive starting with the letter s. >> look what your sales team was saying about timber wolf? boy, that timber wolf was one * bleep* deal. they sold that. >> mr. senator. >> there are prices in the market that people want to invest. i did not use that term with respect to this deal. >> top officers of goldman noted the firm was short in points and long at others, at the end of the day coe told senators it lost money on mortgages too. goldman sachs lost $1.2 billion from our activities in the residential housing market. we did not have a massive short against the housing market and we certainly did not bet against our clients. >> senator levin was not satisfied and he and other

lawmakers believe the practice is used by goldman and others in the mortgage crisis will have to be addressed by regulation or legislation. in washington, jim angle, fox news. >> senate democrats say they are not giving up, in fight to get a financial regulation overhaul bill to the president's desk. the bill failed in the key test vote on the hill late yesterday. republicans are concerned that the bill will violate rights of private citizens. democrats say it is necessary to prevent another crisis, and it is not aimed at spying on average citizens. >> southwest airlines is flying $200,000 for bumping too many passengers. dot found southwest bumped 13,000 passengers last year alone. and failed to pay them. southwest bumped 80 percent more passengers than any other u.s. carrier. >> meantime, european airlines are demanding money from their governments because of the

pennsylvania as well. so it looks like definitely chillier temperatures. right in the lower mid 30s you can expect to see the temperatures late overnight tonight. in fact, our future scan temperatures here showing the temperatures earlier today in the 60s. now 50s. get intiengt 40s. but colder than the model data here. down to, north of cockeysville, parkton, along the border there, in westminster, looks like the temperatures will be in the mid 30s overnight. then warm up tomorrow. 50s for the morning rush hour. and then, looking at warmer temperatures in the 60s. right now cooler temperatures north. and then warmer air over the next couple of days. front pushed through and area of pressure wrapping in colder temperatures. clearing back west. helps us to get the sunshine for the next several days. on the future scan, you can see how that activity has pushed off to the southeast. and plenty of clearing will stick around for the next several days. allowing us to warm up and have sunshine. be tonight cool night. 42 downtown.

before get this. each one of these 20,000 dominoes represents a dollar raised by the texas students through a program called chain of love. the money will go to a school in haiti. which they partnered with two years ago. >> by having all the dominoes lined up people can see how little efforts and little bit of money add up to make a difference. >> after eight minutes all the dominoes had fallen and haiti's flag was raised into the air. this is no lawn ornament. neighbor sport spotted this alligator in the garden outside of a florida home and called police. after spending a few minutes outside of the front door. the gator moved across the yard and slipped into a pond. before authorities could capture it. >> the springfield college baseball team has quite a distinguished player. 58-year-old larry decided to go back to college and joined a team of players younger than his own children. >> it was always part of a dream for me to play college sports. >> he had not played ball since high school 40 years ago.
