the risk for students and teachers alike. and the emotional pleas for action. >> potential problems for chrysler, how they may be similar to the ones toyota is having. and which states have the highest and lowest rates of childhood obesity. >> live in high definition, from wbff tv in baltimore, this is fox 45 news "late edition". >> and hello again, i am jeff barnd. >> and i am jennifer gilbert. a college student from cockeysville is killed, in a classroom arrested for the murder. the victim was a lacrosse player at the university of virginia. she also played at her high school in towson. >> melinda roeder joins us tonight with more on this tragic story. melinda? >> 22-year-old yeardley love also played lacrosse at notre dame prep in baltimore county where she was remembered today as an outstanding student. her alleged killer is also a lacrosse player at the university of virginia. and it was early this morning,

that yeardley love's roommate found her body inside of her bedroom and called police. when officers got there, they found love badly bruiseed and unresponsive. they determined that she was murdered. a short time later they arrested also a lacrosse player at uva. and also news of the crime spread to love's hometown, friends and faculty at notre dame prep were devastated. >> a contributor in every way imaginable. every positive way. great athlete. and a great team player. >> for yeardley notre dame was home and for us yeardley is one of our girls. and was and is and always will be. >> police say love and her suspected killer, george huguely had a relationship. but they could not comment today on a possible motive. melinda roeder, fox 45 news "late edition". >> okay melinda. you can hear everything police had to say today. just by going to our website. foxbaltimore.com/raw news.

>> the city's top educator finally responds to a story you saw first on fox two weeks ago. concerns about bullying at gilmore elementary. there were 47 suspensions at gilmore elementary already. seven involve bullying. it was a story you saw first with shanya, a third grader. and parents were critical of the response, but dr. alonso is quick to defend administrators, saying they have been very proactive. >> what you see at gilmore, are people struggling, struggling with some issues that are endemic to many schools in urban systems, and trying very, very hard to put systems in place that are going to work for all kids. and they might not be doing it as effectively as they should but they are trying hard. >> dr. alonso said the parents and the community must also play a major role in stopping this violence. >> concerns tonight over illness at a baltimore elementary school. some parents and teachers

believe mold is the cause. mold was found in, at least, 20 locations throughout fort worthington elementary. including upstairs classrooms, basement classrooms and gym. discovery made in december. but parents just recently received notification about the concerns. and it is in today's meeting at the school heated exchanges among parents, and teachers, angered by what they are calling a cover up. >> i don't care how you look at t it is wrong. i have developed asthma. i have developed bronchitis. as a result of all of this. i never had this stuff growing up. >> environmental crews have cleaned up some affected areas but there are some concerns. and some places, including the cafeteria. meantime school officials working with parents to resolve the matter. >> police make four arrests, after a shaw middle school principal found dead in his home. police arrested three, 18-year-olds, for killing brian betts. and a mother arrested after

cameras caught her using bets credit cards. he was found dead last month. and robbery could be the motive. >> chestertown pastor and licensed foster parent is behind bars tonight. accused of sexually ausing two children. and there was fear more victims may be out there. last week police arrested 39-year-old jerry bartley for allegedly abusing a 13-year-old boy. that case prompted a 6-year-old girl to come forward. with similar allegations. bartley now faces more than 70 additional charges. two foster children were removed from bartley's home. >> the death of a 71-year-old harford county man is ruled a murder. joseph carpenterrary was discovered in his home in edgewood last night. police are not saying how he died. this is the first homicide recorded in harford county in 2010. >> arundel county executive john leopold has released his budget

plan for next year. he says it won't increase taxes and it cuts spending by $38 million. but it also calls for county workers to take 12 furlough days. the budget needs to be approved by the county council by the end of june. >> governor o'malley pays a visit to a motorcycle dealer to promote a new jobs tax credit. cycle world in brooklyn park hired four new workers under a law that offerers businesses $5000 tax credit for every laid off worker they hire. 40 businesses in the state have hired 51 workers. >> our goal is to lead all states out of this with better job creation, numbers every month. moving forward. and to come out of this stronger than even we were before we headed into this. >> the state is set-aside $20 million for this tax credit. >> definitely hod hot, humid, sticky out there today. >> it was. chief meteorologist vytas reid is here with the forecast. >> we saw warm air out there.

lower 80s. clouds and showers started us off this morning. but it pushed east. and now breaks in the clouds. heaviest rain is in georgia and south carolina. parts florida getting hammered with heavy showers and thunderstorms. back in indiana, ohio, you see rain there. that is a little hint of things to come as we see the next frontal boundary push in. that will give us a chance for showers, into the afternoon tomorrow. 75 in baltimore. 71 in d.c. looks like we will see the sun for the morning commute. a few chance for showers in the afternoon. and as the next front pushes through. closer look at how long this warm weather will stick around and changes for the weekend coming. back to you. >> cash for clunkers then cash for appliances now cash for buses. the obama administration is making $775 million available to local transit agencies. the money can be used to upgrade bus service, buy new vehicles or

retrofit others to modernize them. the announcements comes as transit agencies across the country are starting to layoff workers, raise fares and cut services because of state and local budget cuts. >> chrysler and the federal government are looking into problems with deficient gases pedals. this is not a recall but looking into it. the problems connected to 160,000, 27 dodge calibers, pedals made by the same company that supplied toyota. chrysler said there are no reports of any accidents or injuries. >> continental and united are uniting to become the world's biggest airline. in this merger deal, united will purchase continental for $3 billion. the airline will keep united name and fly to more than 270 cities worldwide. >> looking for a new set of golf clubs? some that belong to the best-of-the-best up for grabs. >>the clubs that tiger used to win all four majors, back in 2000 and 2001 are on e-bay. starting bid, $250,000.

>> the white house is now calling the time square bombing attempt terrorism. and there is increasing talks that the act has international connections. david lee miller has more on the latest developments. >>st is he or isn't he? authorities are trying to determine if the man on this video had anything to do with saturday's attempted car bombing in time square. recording made half a block from where the suv turned car bomb was bill rowing smoke. the man described as a white male in his 40s, aroused suspicion because he is seen removing a dark colored shirt with a red one underneath. and glances over the shoulder in the direction of the car bomb and leaves the area. >> he may or may not have been involved in this incident. it was a hot day. maybe he was changing his shirt. >> police are reviewing hundreds

of hours of video recorded by area cameras, in addition to home video made by a tourist. and looking at a treasure you are trove of physical evidence. the alarm clocks, gasoline filled jugs, propane tanks and other things used to make the bomb that could provide forensic evidence. authorities say the license plate on the path finder traced to a ford truck in a connecticut repair shop and talked with the path finder's owner that they say is not a suspect. >> attorney general eric holder said progress is being made. >> we have some good leads. and investigative work has begun. had those devices been successful we could have seen a substantial loss of life. >> new york police veteran is called a hero following his action. without hesitation he evacuated the area. >> everything happened so fast. it is not time to be squared. you just, all right tile to get the people out of here. start a perimeter.

>> in new york, david lee miller. >> months before the flow of oil into the gulf of mexico is finally stopped. congress has announced the committee hearing set for may 6 to review the accident. meantime stormy weather and choppy seas in the gulf is stopping crews in their tracks. bp said it will be paying for all of the clean up costs. >> we will keep our secretary salazar said our boot on the throat of bp to ensure that they are doing all that is necessary. while we do all that is humanly possible. to deal with this incident. >> meantime, dead sea turtles, gulls, pelicans and even crabs have starteded to wash ashore. all fishing suspended in the region for, at least, 10 days. >> meanwhile it is too early to tell if that slick will affect our economy up here in maryland. with commercial fishing and crabbing shut down for 10 days now. there is a good chance that it could cause the price of crabs everywhere to soar.

the crab season chesapeake bay is just starting. >> another disaster capturing the attention. flooding in tennessee. ten died. death toll state wide in the state of tennessee, at least, 18. and the high water forced guests at the opera land hotel to stay in a shelter. officials say the cumberland river is expected to crest at 11 feet above flood stage. >> of course, we're looking to see what our first full week of may has in store weather wise? >> nobody better to x ask than our own vytas with the forecast. >> that's impressive video of the heavy flooding taking place down in tennessee. the titan's stadium along the waterway has a couple of feet of water there on the playing field. it is a mess. a lot of water. we will not see that much water. we're talking about showers that we saw go through we saw a quarter of an inch versus 10 to

20 inches of rain in spots down there. so it looks like a big over the tennessee valley. but quiet conditions here. 71 degrees. few high thin clouds. winds out of the west at three. humidity levels, 79 percent. and we will continue to see more clearing through the overnight. as that 1st front that pushed through, giving us showers, move off to the east. we got breaks in the clouds over baltimore, and continue to see the breaks build in through the overnight. looking at the temperatures at 75 in baltimore. 74 in rich be mond. 66 in aharrisburg. cooler west. and we will continue to see a change in temperatures. as another frontal boundary pushes through the great lakes region. ohio river valley. arriving by tomorrow afternoon. dropping our temperatures down more. so 1st front moved through. clear conditions. and secondary front firing up showers in central indiana. ohio. over toward columbus getting showers right now. as it extends into the state tomorrow. we may get a few pop ups. model data shows the next front pushing through, popping up the
