wbff tv in baltimore, this is fox 45 news "late edition." >> hello again, i am jennifer gilbert. >> and i am jeff barnd. doctors say arizona congress woman gabrielle giffords is in critical but stable condition, two days after the crazed shooting rampage in tucson. >> leaving six dead, 14 injured. tonight catherine harrah reports on the first court appearance for the suspect. tragedy in tucson. >> in a phoenix federal court, 22-year-old jared loughner whose hands were shackled spoke in a loud voice as he told the judge he understood the charges against him. jared loughner is held without bail. the high profile criminal lawyer clark, that identified the unibomber was assigned. because the public defender said a conflict of interest based on their relationship with judge, murdered at the same event where giffords was shot. law enforcement briefed on the investigation said that federal investigators are still tracking

down leads. but at this point, quote, they believe the suspect jared loughner acted alone. >> while there are still people the feds want to talk to, a picture of jared loughner is emerging. young man quote with not a lot of friends, associates, or firm connection to a group or organization. the fbi director held one news conference before returning to washington monday. >> given the tragedy, all logical precautions are in place, to best ensure the safety of other public officials. but i will say, and emphasize, there is no information at this time, to suggest any specific threat remains. >> sources tell fox news federal investigators have searched his home where he lives with his parents. his father is seen briefly entering the home blocked off. in the backyard shrine found with a fake skull and other cult items and court documents say a letter with giffords name was found inside of the safe that suggested the attack was planned. law enforcement source tells us that the ammunition was bought

the same morning of the shooting. in washington, catherine heritage, fox news. >> suspect jared loughner has shown disturbing signs of mental -llness. motive for the crime is unclear. but some including maryland senator cardin said the shooting of a member of congress means it is time to tone down what he calls overheated political rhetoric. >> we're asking everyone to couple down some of the rhetoric. we do not want to make any assumptions about cause and effect. but, i think, it is important that we watch the words that we use. words do have consequences. lets try to tone down a little bit the rhetoric, and the volume level. >> stay tune to fox 45 for the latest on the conditions of the surviving victims and investigation into the tragedy in tucson. >> meantime, investigation continues in to several incidents last week where packages you ignited at state office building it is. survey by the university of maryland said that there were 31

terrorist cases in four decades. that ranks 17th nationwide, among states. terrorism analyst said that many of those incidents were not intended to kill anyone. >> frequently the case that terrorists are not so much trying to kill poem as get attention for a particular cause. and then incendiary device is not a bad way to do that. because it is less likely to take a lot of human life. >> one mail room worker suffered minor burns. >> an officer and an unarmed man ggnned down in baltimore. tonight four police officers are suspended with pay. 33-year-old officer william torbet jr. shot to death during a fight. outside of the select lounge, sunday morning. investigators saa it was friendly fire that officers didn't know torbet was a city police officer dressed in plain clothes. >> the baltimore police department is committed to conducting a complete, thorough investigation of sunday morning's incident.

we must understand it. learn from it. and emerge better. we owe it to all the victims, and officers, to be thorough and complete, until only release confirmed facts. >> unarmmd man was killed during the scuffle. and four others shot. internal investigation is expected to wrap up within three weeks. >> the unarmed man shot by officers is 22-year-old shaun gamble. semi pro football player. >> keith daniels is standing by live in woodlawn where loved once honored him tonight with a vigil. >> live at woodlawn high school. a lot of the young men in that club, that night, play you football with gamble here at woodlawn. during his high school years. now, many of them, along with other loved ones, gathered on the school's football field tonight. more than 100 people were here. a moving outpouring show of respect, with candles burning in memory of gamble. now, friends say he was not a

player. >> good day for gull ability. facebook is not shutting down on march 15. story from the weekly world news said zuckerberg was shutting down facebook in march, supposedly quoting zuckerberg as saying facebook is out of control and ruined my life. facebook said they are going nowhere, and plan to expand. nothing has changed. bad day for baltimore jobs. pepsi said it willlno longer make soda and other beverages here. resulting in 70 job losses at the least. pepsi management said the 2-cent tax passed last year, did not help. the baltimore facility will get the beverages from other pepsi plants. >> great day for heroes, in australia, soldier, four legged one missing in afghanistan for a year. comes home. sarbi disappeared two years ago, after a rocket grenade separated her from the handler. bomb sniffing lab, was found by

a u.s. soldier that saw her with an afghan man taking good care of her. >> now to the south. several inches fell in atlanta in a few hours. slippery roads northwest of atlanta caused a driver to lose car. car caught on fire. driver made it out okay. after all of that. well that snow system is headed our way tonight. >> how much and when? here is chief meteorologist vytas reid with the latest sky watch forecast. vytas? >> it looks like we have the storm heading our way. not only one storm but two areas mid-atlantic. first edge going up to virginia. down south, in the carolinas. and back over the midwest. illinois, parts of missouri and iowa. second low that will be tracking our direction. so converging off the coast. as they do so, two areas of low pressure will kind of strengthen off the mid-atlantic.

>> the body of a missing las vegas show girl and former maryland resident has been foun. police say the main suspect in the death of deborah flores narvaez is her former boyfriend jason griffith. investigators say they were in a domestic dispute on december 12, and narvaez was choked to death. her body was dismembered and covered in concrete. >> she was just beautiful person. inside and out. i want to remember her for who she was. what she represented. >> a tip led police to the downtown las vegas home. where they found her body. griffith is locked up tonight in a las vegas jail. and is scheduled to go before a judge tomorrow.

>> prison time for tom delay, judge sentenced the former house majority leader to three years for his role in a scheme to illegally funnel corporate cash to texas candidates back in 2002. this after a jury convicted him on charges of money laundering and conspiracy. delay was once one of the most powerful men in u.s. politics, and could have faced life behind bars. >> the death toll, is rising from that relentless flooding in australia. cars and vans tossed like toys in one city. look at that. many rescued from the rushing waters. others were clinging to trees. or the roofs of cars, while they waited for help. look at that van against that tree. this is the worst flooding to hit the state of queensland in decades. at least eight people are confirmed dead. and about 200,000 people have been left homeless. >> unbelievable video. >> just awful. all is quiet right now here. but about to change.

>> we are getting snow come noon time tomorrow. what we understand from vytas reid. vytas? >> measurable snow. we could get that accumulating heading through the afternoon hours. picks up in pace through the late evening hours, and overnight. here is what is going on down there right now. downtown, quiet. 30 degrees. clouds gathering. winds out of the west at five. and see that light wind through the overnight. looking at humidity levels. 65%. moisture continues to saturate the atmosphere as the system pushes out of the south. almanac page tells the story. 36 degrees. low was 19 this morning. cold start. and you can see no precipitation to talk about here. as far as out there at bwi thurgood marshall airport. and also in inner harbour. but that will change as this storm moves up out of the south. in fact, h.d. radar composite shows south of charlottes vil, lynchburg, richmond, snow coming down. marching up 95. and give us a chance for snow showers, into the mid afternoon tomorrow. but two systems we're looking at. one out of the plains as well. this storm will continue to track across the midwest

dropping snow, three to four to 5 inches at times. so if you have travel plans, that would be affecting them morning hours. so chicago, indianapolis, cincinnati, columbus, you may want to check ahead. if you have travel plans. that way you could run into delays as these two low pressures will continue to converge over the mid-atlantic by late tomorrow, tomorrow evening. and then start to head up the eastern sea board toward new england states. causing a problem for them up there as well. look at all of the advisories affecting the mid section of the country. warnings ver the carolinas, pink indicates over delaware, new jersey. we potential for accumulating snow as well. but real threat is up in this area. new york city, stretching northern new jersey, new york city, connecticut up to massachusetts, where they already saw about a week ago, as much as a foot of snow. again, they will see another potential for almost another round of about a foot of snow as well. so once again, along here, 95 corridor. for baltimore, dc.

winter weather advisories. then winter storm warnings on the eastern shore. how much are we talking about as far as snowfall? this is the prediction with a model run from the computer. looking at anywhere from 2-to 4-inches, and some areas, 3 to 5 inches. so depends on the track of the storms. some pockets may get more snow. but the further north you go, definitely you will run into heavier snowfall, north of wilmington, philadelphia, into new york city. bbgger picture here, you could see how the heavier snow will band up there toward the north of us. anywhere from about six to 10 inches possibly, as much as a foot up in new york. air is cold. all in the form of snow. no mixed bag here. so you will be shoveling the snow tomorrow evening. timing this o you see snow building up out of the south. time line. is tomorrow afternoon, two or 3:00, we should see flakes coming down. through the overnight, 10, 11, 12:00. coming down good. and then it looks like wrapping up as we get down toward morning hours of wednesday. so here is what it looks like five-day forecast.

snow showers ending by wednesday morning. but will be cleaning up. and then thursday, friday, saturday. and sunday another storm on the way. >>well, firing every teacher in an entire school, may not seem like the common sense thing to do. but it is paying off for a school district in rhode island. central falls high school made national headlines last year when it fired the entire teaching staff. now the school district is getting $1.3 million in federal education dollars, to continue its reform process. now most of the teachers by the way, were hired back. but school year is off to a rocky start with teachers calling in sick, or quitting. >> complete lack of common sense and pants. on the subway in new york. thousands of new yorkers dropped drawers for the 10th annual no pants subway ride. and they had to pick a really cold day in january to do it.
