>> the snow has arrived. how it is affecting the roads tonight. and what we can expect for tomorrow. >> the homeless man with a golden voice, why he had a bad day after a great week. >> like a blind date. >> comedian cosby comes to town. the reason for the trip to baltimore. >> bottled water, why there are more questions tonight than answers. >> live in high definition, from wbff tv in baltimore, this is fox 45 news "late edition." >> the snow finally started to come down. right now it is barely coming down for the overnight. but tomorrow morning, could be a whole different story. >> hello again, i am jeff barnd. >> and i am jennifer gilbert. how much snow could we wake up to? >> go straight to our chief meteorologist vytas reid with the latest forecast. vytas? >> it looks like we missed another major storm, as far as it being a large amount. large accumulation of snowfall. but we got snow.

and in fact, on h.d. radar, scanning the skies, snow coming down. but eldersburg, westminster, damascus, getting breaks from the snowfall. put ittin motion. you can see how we had the dark blue showing heavy amounts, making the way through the baltimore city area. and back west a break from the snow. as area of low pressure continues to wraparound over parts of ohio. and there is still a chance for maybe light accumulation late overnight. but the heaviest snowfall is up in big metropolitan areas of philadelphia, new york, boston. you have any travel plans that way tomorrow, most likely big cancellations or big delays. now we're still in a winter weather advisory until 3 a.m. how much? well i went out and measured. 2 and a half inches on the ground in front of the station on 41st. but one to three across our region. two to four northeast of us. eastern shore. four plus, up toward wilmington, and even more. i will show you how much more

around philadelphia. wrapping out by the morning hours. but side roads could be slippery. have a look at that coming up. >> thank you, vytas. >> the storm is taking a toll on roadways. jeff abell is live in baltimore with the latest on the conditions. jeff, how does it look? >>well snow has indeed let up considerably. just in the last 20 minutes. but left a lot behind. standing on the trees, sidewalks, and on the roadways, it has given motorists a test of driving patience tonight. earlier this evening, police did shut down a portion of coldspring lane at falls road that simply became too slick for motorists to climb. it was reopened a short time later. so far city is reporting no significant problems here tonight. but even the most experienced motorists have cause for concern. >> a lot of people do not understand just because it is coming down real softly that it is slippery and wet. >> well, the city did not pretreat the roads.

following the fatal shooting of a baltimore city police officer. two weeks ago, fox 45 did a story on officer toyya williams. tasing a 22-year-old outside of another baltimore city nightclub. this is video of the incident captured on a cell phone. 22-year-old timothy ferguson has filed a complaint with the department. alleging officer williams, and others, used excessive force. his mother was shocked to learn officer williams was still on the street, and wonders why tonight? >> she should have been on desk duty, pending this investigation. but yet she is out there, participating in firing 41 shots into a crowd. >> a police spokesman tells fox 45 internal affairs, is still reviewing the case. he says there was no reason for officer williams to be off the street, pending the tasing investigation. joy lepola, fox 45 news "late

edition." >> tonight, williams, harry dodge, harry pollly and latoya craig all on administrative leave after the shooting. >> mayor stephanie rawlings-blake is saying they are doing a thorough investigation into the shooting and only if necessary will an out agency be called to investigation. >> i don't think anyone would believe that they would allow the tragic death of one of their own to go without being investigated. i believe that there will be a serious thorough investigation. after we're done, i invite an outside investigation. >> that brings us to the question of the day. should an outside agency be brought in to investigate the police-involved shooting. 95% say yes. 5% say no. ken writes on facebook. anything to restore trust, back into the police force. but kathy writes. that is what internal affairs is for. the city does not need to waste

money on what we already have in place. >> prince george's county, 11 days, 11 murders. university of maryland stuuent fatally shot off college park campus, bringiig the county's3 murder rate to 11 this new year. it happened earlier today. this morning as a matter of fact. police say a man in a black ski mask fled the scene. >> doctors in arizona say that the arizona congress woman that was shot in the head in a shooting rampage is breathing on her own. the memorial outside of tucson arizona medical center where giffords is being treated is growing every day. yesterday the suspected gunman, jared loughner made his first court appearance. he did not make a statement or enter a plea. meanwhile doctors talked more good about giffords's recovery. >> i am very encouraged by the fact that she has done so well. we are hopeful.

but under score the seriousness of this injury. and the fact that we all have to be extremely patient. >> six people were killed in the shooting saturday. 14 others were shot. >> congress put the work on hold in the days since the shooting in tuesday son. but political finger pointing started almost immediately. many democrats say that conservative rhetoric pushed the suspect to murder.@ >> to try to inflame the public on a daily basis, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, has impact on people, especially who are unbalanced personalities to begin with. >> the notion that rhetoric from establishments conservatives is responsible for a crazy guy, shooting people, is just preposterous. >> well one pennsylvania lawmaker wants to regulate political speech. making it illegal to threaten lawmakers with comments or symbols. >> and an elderly couple found dead in a maryland farm field.

a passer-by discovered the bodies of 85-year-old william fresh and his 79-year-old wife betty. near jefferson, 10 miles out of frederick. sheriff's say the couple began to walk, after their car suddenly struck a ravine. they apparently died from exposure to the cold. >> rumors are put to an end. a modified version of the i-phone four is coming to verizon. current verizon customers will have the option of preordering february 3. current i-phone owners hoping to switch to verizon, face an expensive changeover. they would have to buy a new phone from verizon. and pay early termination fees up to $325. >> and apparently there are jobs out there for the unemployed. but you might have to take a pay cut. according to the labor departmeet. average hourly earnings are down. many making, at least, 20% less

than they were before. and while this is hard on individual workers, lower wages allow employers to hire more workers, especially for companies in the service sector. >> plans are set for baltimore's annual martin luther king parade. the parade like this one last year will be held monday january 17. it steps off at noon at mkl and this is the 11th year and fox 45 news is a proud sponsor of the event. >> good day for maryland schools. they are number one again. according to education week magazine. it is the third straight year the magazine has named maryland's public schools as the best in the nation. >> good news for the housing market in baltimore. home sales in baltimore metro area rose 8% in december. breaking a five month slump. still 2010 sales were down 3% from the year before.

>> bad day for the homeless man that gained sudden fame for his great voice. the cops were called when ted williams and his daughter got in a heated argument in a hollywood hotel last night. williams and his daughter were taken in for questioning. and neither arrested. police described the incident as minor. the williams is a former drug addict clean for two years. he aamits the sudden fame has been stressful. he told one interviewer, i wanted a nerve pill yesterday to be honest with you. >> it was a scary moment. >> a city firefighter being hail

out there. 29 degrees. winds calm. humidity levels at 100%. looking at 23 degrees in hagerstown. 29 in baltimore. 30 in salisbury. 30 in d.c. it looks like we will continue to see that cold air still in play. out there. so it is all in the form of snow. there was an inversion, that means warm air riding above the cool air on the shore. so sleet mixed in. that's purple color. but back west. there ii a few breaks in the snow. but still the area of low pressure is over ohio can give a lift in the atmosphere and give a few brief snow showers, late overnight. but not much accumulation from that. out of here by 4 a.m. snow north of us. and broken clouds tomorrow. and for the most part. snow is on the ground by. then how much? well anywhere from one to 3 inches southwest of us. two to four. so i am going with two to three, across the city. that's what it looks like. two to three. and further north, close to four mark. and north of wilmington where it is heavy up there. where the warnings are in effect from philadelphia to new york,

all the way up to boston where they could see blizzard like conditions. we're talking about, up there, traveling toward philadelphia, we're talking about maybe as much as four to 8 inches of snowfall. they were hammer the last week. where they got a foot. some areas more than that. but you go further north, folks in new york city, who had a foot and a half of snow, they could get eight to 12 inches of snowfall there. then further north, boston, harford, connecticut. they could see 12 to 16 inches. so we're talking about a lot of snow for new england. so if you have any travel plans that way, most likely you will see cancellation and problems. 26 tonight. cold. tooorrow, looking at breaks in the clouds. seven-day forecast coming up. >> all right. vytas, thank you.@ baltimore city firefighter received top hero award. just as he returns to work after being injured in a fire that @%curred last april. jeff novac given the fire mark award from liberty mutual

>> it is a short week for the ravens. no tuesday o but nobody is complaining in owen's mills. only eight teams alive in the playoffs. and ravens are one of them. that means, another trip to pittsburg. archrivals meet saturday afternoon. with a trip to the afc championship game on the line. pittsburg is listed as favorite but it does not faze the ravens.
