fox 45 news "late edition." >> hello again, i am jennifer gilbert. >> and i am jeff barnd. snow is on the way. how much will we see? when will it get here? >> go straight to vytas reid with the forecast. >> we are under a winter storm watch for central maryland and eastern shore as we continue to see the storm push from the south. points west of frederick county and western portion of the state under warnings already. we could see this upgraded to a winter storm warnings overnight through the morning. as the storm approaches. but nonetheless, something to watch. because this storm is approaching, as you see on radar, coming up out of the south. temperatures warmer to the south of us, richmond, in the 40s. we're in the 30s and 20s. as that precipitation comes in to contact with the cooler air, it will start to mix with a little bit of mixing freezing rain, sleet, and rain. so we will see that first. then it changes over as we get through the day tomorrow. here is where the low is located over parts of southern tennessee.

tracks into our area. how much are we looking at? right now potentially four to 8 inches of snowfall along 95 corridor. dc and baltimore included in that. we could see closer to 4 inches or higher, up to eight. and 5 to 10 once you are in frederick county. folks in frederick and western portion of the state. eastern shore. looking at 3 to 5. as you get over to denton and easton. so it looks like delve we will see this through the afternoon changing over, 3:00 to all snow. down through rush hour. slippery rush hour. and come down harder possibly during the eight, nine, 10:00 hour. i will break it down for you in detail more coming up. >> thank you, vytas. >> is your vehicle ready when the rubber hits the snowy road? jeff abell live in north baltimore with a few recommendations. jeff? >>well you can ask any mechanic and they will tell you when it comes to tires there are a lot of myths about making your car snow ready. in fact, over at mr. tire in north baltimore. experts say snow tires are not the best tires for marylanders. in fact, they only improve

traction by about 15 percent they say, and not enough snow to warrant them. all season tours are a better buy, and bigger tires, are not necessarily better tires. >> most people want to go bigger size. wrong thing to do. skinny tire digs down and grabs the pavement. wider tire you have a snowshoe affect, it sits up top. >> now, excellent tire pressure, even in those spare tires, and all other tires, is critical to making your way through a snowy season. we're live in north baltimore. jeff abell, fox 45 news "late edition." >> all right jeff thank you. baltimore police officers are still mad about last year's blizzard. about 40 officers could not make it to work because of the blizzard and were docked pay for not showing up. tonight they are fighting to get back the few hundred dollars they lost. >> this is all in the heels of a mayor that has taken these guys pay and not given them any correspondenting days off.

designs renewable technologist for businesses. in washington, craig boswell fox news. >> state wide new poll indicates governor o'malley's rating at the highest since office. survey by gonzales research said that 58 percent of maryland voters approve of the job he is doing. 30 percent disapprove. economy and jobs are the number one issue for marylanders. >> state lawmaker wants legal gun owners allowed to bring the weapons to maryland. state police say 47,000 marylanders have handgun permits. but advocates say it is difficult to obtain permits to kiriacon sealed weapons here than other states. >> the attorney general said we have to accept out of state same sex marriage licenses even though we do not accept it in maryland. why would we not accept a same permit to carry that is issued from out of state? >> bills to expand maryland's handgun laws have failed in recent years. >> lawmakers could soon be backing a bill to expand table games in maryland?

but house speaker michael busch said any gambling changes, like adding games, would have to be approved by the maryland voters. soonest it could happen is november of 2012. that means lawmakers will have an entire session next year to approve the legislation. >> another battle over same sex marriage brewing in annapolis. today several lawmakers are renaming the call for maryland to legalize same sex marriages. opponents want to build defining marriage solely between a man and a woman. >> i think the country and the state is evolving on the issue. they seem more gay and lesbian families and recognize they are continuing to deny us civil communications. >> i have been married for 45 years, i have five children. 13 grandchildren. i believe in the sanctity of marriage, a relationship between a man and a woman. >> opponents may petition the issue to referendum if the measure passes. our question of the day was to you. should maryland recognize same sex marriage? 61 percent say yes. david said what occurs between consenting adults not the

government's business. christina said, no, it is not fair for society to accept this behavior. >> tell lawmakers what you think about same sex marriage. you will find their contact information at fox foxbaltimore.com/your voice. >> bad day for taco bell. even worst day for you. if you are a taco bell fan. a lawsuit has a lot of people asking where is the beef. a law firm in alabama is suing taco bell. lawyers say they had taco bell's meat mixture tested and they found that it is only 35 percent beef. the rest of it, binders and extenders. taco bell may be planning a lawsuit of its own overall of this. >> good day and bad day for the naval academy in annapolis. first badnution. seven midshipmen expelled for using or having synthetic marijuana known as spice. or k-2. and now it is not illegal in most places, but it is

considered a banned substance by the navy. >> now the good news. naval academy has been ranked the most popularnution institution. they come up with the ranking by looking at accepted applicants that enrolled at the institution. more than 85 percent of those accepted at the naval academy end up enrolling there. >> the street lights along 100 in howard county are dimmer. the state is trying to save energy and money. if results from the year long tests along 100 are positive, officially say the state could reduce lighting along other highways. >> it is one of the talked about decisions to be made in maryland. >> yeah, ocean city needs to repair its own boardwalk, and the resort wants your take. boardwalk is all wood. but there is talk about replacing it with concrete. it is cheaper but not as nice looking. a third alternative combines

dealership will not comment. but rival chevy dealership hired him. whoever fired stone has not got the sense god gave a goose. >> football? the game. 10 percent unemployment. please. >> well, worse than snow, we will see, tomorrow afternoon. >> go to vytas reid with a look at the weather. >> you have to brace yourself for the storm. building up out of the south. this one will give us disruptive weather out there. and accumulating snowfall across the mid-atlantic, stretching up to new england area. so they are included as well. hd skycam. cloudy skies. temperatures at 37. winds out of the north-northeast at three. after a lovely day with temperatures in the 40s. not bad out there. but now the temperatures will drop. and we will see changes as we see the state temperatures at 30 degrees in hagerstown. 37 in baltimore. 36 in d.c. and as you get into the south of dc. looking at 42 in fredericksberg. 42 charlottesville. so the precipitation falling there is in the form of rain. as it gets closer to

temperatures and freezing point it will come down in the form of a mixed bag there. winter storm warnings in pink for the western portion of the state through parts of west virginia and virginia. that's until 4 a.m. on thursday. and then we have winter storm watches for central maryland. including dc. baltimore. and that goes until 4 a.m. as well. on thursday. and the eastern shore. as we have this storm pushing up out of the south. national weather service out of sterling virginia could issue this as a warning by the time tomorrow. depends on the track of the storm. and severity as it gets closer. still could have a little movement here. but good chance we will see that accumulating snowfall. looking at the maryland satellite radar. you can see the precipitation in the form of rain. decentp showers, purple and blue indicate a mixed bag. with temperatures colder over the mountains. that's the case in the morning tomorrow. and rain/snow mixing. by the morning rush hour commute. so the roads will be wet. but by the afternoon that mixing is starting to changeover. western maryland will be all in the form of snow already. but then as we get into the 3:00

hour. should be changing to all snow here. then it will come down good across 95 corridor. and then snowing pretty good for the rush hour going home. and then the evening. we're he seeing the back end of the storm wrapping in that cold air. as the storm moves further north. dropping all of that in the form of snow up to about one or 2:00 in the morning. then it starts to leave us. so here is what it looks like. totals four to eight for baltimore. stretching down to d.c. through hartford to cecil county. eastern shore, folks in denton, over toward chestertown, looking at 3 to 5. west of us, over toward frederick. five to 10 inches possible. they will get heavier amounts in the western portion of the state. and that's going to stretch up to the new england region as well. so you will have to check ahead for any travel delays. i will have a detailed look at the seven day coming up. >> a little blue over the ravens sitting out the superbowl? john harbaugh feels our pain. bruce cunningham has more next in "sports unlimited." >> a car
