the middle of the road. kathleen cairns reports on the traffic mess, even the day after the storm. >> for drivers, reisterstown road is like a game. >> dodge ball, ping-pong. >> the opponent is abandon cars. >> you have the cars in the middle of the road. they are just sitting there. and it makes it difficult for everybody else to get around. >> then michael alta shows up. >> it was very strange. a lot of ice, like this, all over. >> it is his car that broke down in the middle lane. >> i should not have gone out last night. it was stupid. >> this abandon car is forcing traffic cross the yellow line. it is leroy's car. >> it is not going in gear. >> he said there is transmission trouble. >> not going to movement i want to go back to jamaica. >> in baltimore county. >> if i could afford it i would be on a flight today.

>> kathleen cairns, fox 45 news "late edition." >> a lot of the abandon cars had to be towed. the vehicles that were left on 83 were taken to poly high school in north baltimore. the city's department of transportation said that 32 disabled vehicles in all were towed there. now there was no charge for those drivers. however, you need to move fast. if you have not gotten your car yet. if your car was towed off 83, or anywhere in the city for that matter, or if it is parked be at poly or old pimlico middle school, or any other public school in the city. you have until midnight. you have to get your car, or it will be impounded, or ticketed. >> so what happened? critics claim that government agencies were caught totally unprepared for the storm. keith daniels standing by live downtown with some of the answers tonight. keith? >>well, jeff, live at the city salt dome on falls road. now take a look behind me. the dome is almost empty. most of the salt is gone

tonight. crews were busy last night trying to keep traffic moving. but some critics say something went wrong and traffic stopped. now rain washed the salt off streets. that complicated matters. the storm created gridlock on the jfx. people stuck on side roads after being diverted. and ambulances could not reach their destinations because of the roads. mayor stephanie rawlings-blake said that a combination of things created last night's traffic problems. including having the heaviest of snow blow through during rush hour. >> add to that, so many people were unprepared for road conditions. they were out in cars that did not have the proper tires, or four-wheel drive. they were very ambitious. overly so. got stuck. which made it worse for everybody. so it was a perfect storm for a frustrating evening. >> now, we are back here live. according to the state's department of transportation.

crews towed 300 cars left abandon city wide. 1000 vehicles were involved in that back up on the jfx. live at the city salt dome. keith daniels, fox 45 news "late edition." >> thank you, keith. and earlier we asked, if you are satisfy withed response to the storm in your neighborhood? only 17 percent say yes. 83 percent are saying no. joslin writes on facebook, the response was poor. if we had a real disaster we would be in trouble. but thirty one writes, these guys did the best job possible cleaning the roads. while the blame is passed around, marrieders are digging out and plows getting to those neighborhoods side streets, piled with snow and ice. conditions like those made roads almost impassable leaving neighbors to dig out themselves. >> we do this with every big snow storm, i think. last year, two snow storms, we did that.

and some of the neighbors, a lot of them, got together, and shoveled out the snow as best we could. >> well, the city said that they have not forgotten about the side streets. but they have to clear the main roads first. >> meantime, more than 200,000 households lost power in the winter blast. this despite the fact that crews were out since the snow began to fall. on greenspring avenue in baltimore county uprooted tree crashed down. bringing power lines along with it. utility pole actually snapped in half. >> it is messy. it is bad. i mean, if you ride down the road this way further, i mean, there is branches laying everywhere. because heavy snow. and there is trees down everywhere. i mean, it is really bad. >> we inevitably lost our power. so we have been without it since not really sure when it is coming back on. >> crews are working as we speak, 24/7 to restore the power.

>> things at bwi thurgood marshall airport are back to normal this evening. but it was a rough 24 hours for the passengers who spent the night at the airport. countless delays. and cancellations on flights. as crews work to clean the runways as soon as possible. >> you know, it is part of the game, the travel game, sometimes you get delayed. it happens. >> by noon, only a handful of flights were either delayed or canceled. >> maybe you had the measuring stick out at your house. how much snow did we get? >> vytas reid has the snow totals. you have a yard stick, don't new. >> went out front and measured last night. it was coming down at a fast pace. an inch to 2 in an hour. and of course at worst time, rush hour. so lots of folks dealing with that. but now roads will start to clear up. going into the week. but another storm to talk about. here is what is going on right now. pimlico, 9 inches, baltimore city. out in front of the station

especially, last night, around 83. >> nice to see, shoveling the walkways of the elderly. good to see. >> brings out the best in people. >> and best meteorologist we know of vytas reid will tell us about two clippers and something else later in the week. >> you know we are in the thick of winter. this is the time of the year that we usually get more of the storm systems, january and february. part of the country around here. and being from michigan, you know, jennifer and jeff, i am used to snow, seeing it is beautiful when you look at it. but it is a pain. and i am ready for spring to get here. i am ready. everybody is. skycam, what is going on. 33 degrees. and winds are calm right now. humidity levels at 82 percent. and it looks like we are going to continue to see the temperatures drop through the overnight. you could get freezing. 29 in hagerstown. looking at 33 baltimore. 31 in salisbury. and in the teens back in western maryland. on the satellite radar composite. you can see the clouds are thick goning in over the region.

clipper over the region, gives us a chance for light accumulation. during the morning rush hour, tapering off by lunch time. nothing like what we saw the other day. but we are looking at a little bit of energy that continues to move over the region. giving us light snow for the morning. tapering off in the afternoon. and leaves us. by saturday another light clipper trails through the area. skirting through. light accumulation is possible. 30 to 40 percent chance saturday. nothing heavy as far as the form of snow accumulation. we are looking at 1 inch or less across 95 corridor. still could make the roads slippery here and there going into northern baltimore county and points west. about an inch out there. and then further into the mountains, 1 to 3. and then it looks like light accumulation. and then it will make the way out of here. take note of that. give yourself extra time. roads are not the best. and then also you have to deal with slippery conditions at times. but we have to watch the next possible storm that will form over texas by sunday. and it will make the way over

portions of the midwest. and ohio river valley. arriving here potentially on tuesday, wednesday. making a lineup the eastern seaboard. possible. following the track from the previous heavy snow maker, it could be a problem tuesday night to wednesday. so watch that closely. mark the calendar to see if it follows this track. and if it does, potentially we could see heavy snowfall with this storm. but too early to track officially. we just know something is out there. it will form. and make the way toward our region as we go into early middle of the week. so looking at tonight. few clouds gathering. temperatures at 25 degrees. westerly wind at five. tomorrow, looking at light snow showers, 36 degrees. then your five-day forecast shows clearing for parts of the weekend. >> e ♪ [ female announcer ] unlock the potential of nature and shine. with pantene nature fusion shampoo. experience cassia essence

it was more surreal than anything. you're under fire. you're getting blown up. there's definitely adrenaline. there was the explosion, and i remember just opening my eyes, and it got both of my legs. i had surgery after surgery, you know, i was on a lot of pain medicine. "what's going to happen next? and how long am i going to be here?" the wounded warrior project dropped off a backpack for me. and it had everything in there that i could possibly have needed at that time. peer visitors, people who have been where i had been before, said, "look, brother, "everything's going to be okay. "three months from now, or four months "from now, a year from now, you'll be fine." that type of thing was an invaluable service. to be honest, i don't know if i would be as well adjusted as i am now if it wasn't for them.
