explosion at high school. juliet: they reconstructing a science lab went the blast happened. robert moses has the story. >> reporter: damage to the sixth floor of john f. kennedy high school is easily visible is science labs look like war zones with the result of a violent explosion shortly after 8:00 last night. >> we sought a quick flash and a large explosion. everything should. >> reporter: custodian and his co-worker were outside the building on break when the explosion occurred. >> i was about to go to the sixth floor. i could have been caught in that list >> at the to be alive. >> reporter: three contractors were working to improve the science labs when the explosion rocked the building and the surviving neighborhood. one of the custodians on break said he heard contractors were using a blowtorch. >> like a typical science lab they have gas supply and no one mentioned smelling gas,
