the night to read braille this the rail freight train. they need to repair the track. >> i know it wasn't moving and i didn't think much about it. about ten minutes later it is still there and i realize it has gone off the track. >> reporter: the 16, locomotive is operated by new york and the atlantic railway but it runs on the lirr track. the last car of the train derailed in westbury west of hicksville after 1:00 and just in time for the afternoon rush. the car is blocking one of the two tracks shared by the trains on the port jefferson branch. >> slow down service, people get stuck, not where to go. >> reporter: for awhile service was shut down westbound and east bound service was running on a significant delay affecting writers who live anywhere to montauk. >> the train derailed.

>> what does that mean for you? >> i am going to wait here until i can get on a train and make it home. >> reporter: hopefully she did but for everybody else making your way into penn station to they don't be surprised if that rain is delayed. teresa priolo, "good day new york". juliet: we will check back in a bit. police have identified a person of interest in connection with the murders of two women in two hotels looking for 36-year-old joseph and claire. he was seen on surveillance video leaving both hotels and a fingerprint was found in one of the hotel rooms. the first victim was found july 23rd in the bushwick hotel in brooklyn make and strangled to death. the second victim was found sept. 8 in the manhattan broadway hotel. police said the conditions of both rooms bore similarities so witnesses told them dan clair met the women on the street and took them to the hotel's. ben: gunfire erupted leaving

four people wounded last night near urban turner boulevard and west kines 3. officers found evidence but no victims. a short time later they learned the four shooting victims had been taken to university hospital in private cars. one of those cars was hit by bullets. the victim's injuries are not life-threatening, no word what led to the shooting, no arrests have been made. juliet: police investigating a viciously dirty play on a high school football game. this was taken friday night. a player from lyndon high school wrestled an opposing player, swings his helmet to the opponent, bashes him in the head. the player was severely hurt but he did need ten stitches at the hospital. he put his arms up. the player was flagged for a foul but wasn't kicked out of the game with school officials have apologized. no charges have been filed. ben: the top 11 presidential

candidates will take part in their second debate. juliet: promising fireworks no doubt. carly fiorina did not make the cut for the first one but she will be there tonight taking on donald trump, chris christie and we another hopefuls. robert moses joins us from the newsroom with more on this. >> reporter: if you are political junkies like me you will get your fix. this debate last three hours. not a lot of sleep for me. what is at stake? plenty. donald trump can add to his lead, ben carson can narrow the gap and candidates like jeb bush and chris christie can pull up their sagging numbers. donald trump and his tonight's republican debate as the front runner but ben carson is nipping at his heels. a new york times cbs news poll shows trump has the support of 27% of republican voters up the modest three points from last month. carson is right behind with 23%, that is up 17 points since august.

carson's momentum stems from his strong performance at the gop debate last month in cleveland. trump spoke to yesterday aboard the uss iowa and said his united states would be a force to be reckoned with. >> we will make our military so big and so strong and so great. [cheers and applause] >> it will be so powerful that i don't think we will ever have to use it. nobody is going to mess with us. >> reporter: carson who is retired neurosurgeon is an outsider candidate. his surge at the polls comes as a surprise to some but not to him. >> i have seen the level of enthusiasm and the size of the crowds for quite some time. it hasn't been reported on but we have seen it so this is not very surprising. >> reporter: tonight's debate and the reagan library will be of far more intimate affair than the one last month at the quick and loans arena in cleveland
