preseason rankings. if you see what's been going on on the field, utah, michigan, northwestern, those would be teams that would be in the top ten rather than just starting in the preseason because you had a lot of returning starters. field. think about northwestern. they beat stanford. they beat duke. duke just handled georgia tech today. notre dame has had a nice resume. so one of the things that should be changed about college football, but utah reaping the benefits. i'm reminded last year tcu and how far they climbed from where they started the year and on the outside of the college football playoff. this utah team has a chance to do special things for kyle whittingham. >> gus: and wheeler punting from the 14. covey comes up and fields it at the 37. 8:51 to go. fourth quarter.

>> fox college football is presented by -- >> gus: they're celebrate ing here in eugene, the utah fans. you can imagine what they're doing in salt lake city right now. they really know that they have a squad this year with this kind of performance in all phases of the game. offense, defense and special teams. >> joel: and a coaching staff to game plan. every facet. outplayed, outcoached the oregon ducks. >> gus: chase hanson, a freshman has come in at quarterback for the utes.
12:04 am
initially signed in 2012. red-shirted and went on a church mission to australia. hansen -- >> referee: personal foul, chop block. number 72 and 75 offense. 15-yard penalty, first down. >> gus: andrew albers in there on the line. >> joel: there's the right side. remember engaging high when someone comes around and going low right there. get them for the chop block. looked worse at the end than at the point of contact. nevertheless, a solid call by the officials. >> gus: first down and 25.
12:05 am
utah has had a lot of success in the past under kyle whittingham. let's take a look, joel. >> joel: he's been at the center of it. the defensive coordinator for florida when they won the fiesta bowl. in 08 as the head man with the enormous victory over alabama in the sugar bowl. ended up number 2 in the country. i would dare to say the whittingham era, that was a big win. a postseason win. this one will be right up there. in particular, because i think they're clearly their best win as a member of the pac 12 conference. hansen runs it. taken down hard. he's showing some grit there, the freshman. this guy has done it while his coordinators have had to leave
12:06 am
for better opportunities. fataki went to oregon state. he had guys step up in the positions. he's one of the best coaches out there. he is. he's taken this team from urban meyer era to undefeated in 08 to the pac 12 conference and dominating. >> gus: third down and 10. why did he lose so many talented coaches? >> joel: from an administration standpoint, kyle doesn't have a lot to work with as far as resources for those gentlemen once they become somewhat marquee. >> gus: is that what you're saying? they won't pay them? >> joel: that's what i'm saying. and head coaches can lose assistants because they're hard to work for. that's not the case with kyle. they hate to leave him. for whatever run, utah has been
12:07 am
unable to retain those guys. a lot of it has to do with the monetary steppup that other guys can get elsewhere. >> gus: braylon adams looks to take a bounce in front of him. inside the five yard line. this fall fox brings you an hour of all-star comedy. we have "grandfathered" which premiers this tuesday on fox. >> joel: john stamos plays a grandfather. he never ages. rob lowe never ages, too. >> joel: you're like that. >> gus: that's right. i'm not married. >> joel: you get younger. >> gus: 6:02 in the fourth quarter.
12:08 am
first down and 10. and they hand it off. out of pounds. knocked out hard. taj missed most of his season in high school due to an acl injury out of powder springs, georgia. getting more time with the shoulder injury to tiner. second and two at the 12. far side. alie. >> joel: think about this utah team. they're a week they'll be idle. they'll get their all-american defensive end, dimick, back. and travis wilson played remarkable tonight. he will continue to get healthy from that strained left shoulder.
12:09 am
side line with running room. high stepping. finally knocked out-of-play. allen there to get him after a 48 yard gain. >> joel: you can see why he was a five-star prospect. the true freshman. he was rated as the nation's all purpose back. what makes a great back, not just the ability to be explosive but to break tackles and make plays out of it. that's what he did on the last play. >> gus: first down and 10 at the 30. they pick up the first down. so where does mark helfrich go from here? >> joel: he has to find
12:10 am
continuity on offense. whether it's vernon adams or we're going with jeff lockie because that finger won't be healthy. >> gus: first down and 10. benoit. >> joel: their offensive line has to play better. it's a prerequisite in football. if you can't block the defensive line, you have no chance. oregon's line was outclassed tonight but the utah defensive front. >> gus: alie running it. touchdown oregon. 14 yards. are they getting this kid ready? i'm they could possibly. any time we brought his name up this week, you can hear excitement out of the coaches. former walk on. second straight game with the rushing touchdown.
12:11 am
i think anything is on the table. when you get 62 hung on you and your line looks like that, your quarterback play was shaky, all positions are open. taylor alie presenting a nice little opportunity here at the end of the game. they're going to notice this kid. .. bill's got a very tough lie here... looks like we have some sort of sea monster in the water i believe that's a "kraken", bruce. it looks like he's going to go with a nine iron. that may not be enough club... well he's definitely going to lose a stroke on this hole. if you're a golf commentator, you whisper. it's what you do. if you want to save fifteen percent or more on car insurance, you switch to geico. it's what you do. this golf course is electric... who are you? i am your football self. you having a snack? why? because you should be at lowe's getting everything you need today otherwise, save room for the "i'm not watching any football on sunday
12:12 am
because i didn't clean the deck on saturday" sandwich you'll be eating tomorrow. sounds awful. yeah. that's cause it is. who'd want that sandwich. i don't want that sandwich. gross. yecch. keys! now get a dewalt combo kit for only $179 >> gus: 62-20. under 14 to play in the fourth quarter here at autzen stadium. this game -- i guess, joel, you can say it was over at the start of the third quarter. >> joel: utah just poured it on. that's where they came up with all their wrinkles. >> gus: that brings us to the dr. pepper one of a kind play of the game. here's one of the wrinkles. the pass from devontae booker, the left-hander. throwing to it the true freshman.
12:13 am
they emptied the bag in the third quarter. we saw some trickery on the punt return, a fake punt, the pass from devontae booker. i just loved the game plan. they had nothing to lose. when you looked at their schedule at the start of the year, you'd say their toughest game is at oregon, the next toughest is at usc, they came up here and threw it. burned the ducks on their own field. >> hansen running the ball. let's take a look what's coming up for utah. >> joel: they're going to get this idle date next week, get healthy. cal, a great game. arizona state at home. travel to the coliseum, face usc. and then that date against ucla looming large in november. this team will be near the top of the south division standings this whole year. no do you about it.
12:14 am
they have a veteran quarterback a great running back with booker. the front seven, they're going to be in every game that they play. the front four is just really solid. >> gus: second down. hanson again. third down. let's go to los angeles for a game break. >> things are getting ugly in tempe. cody kessler finds shuster. his fourth touchdown pass tonight. they headed to the locker room with a comfortable lead. >> gus: steve sarkisian. enthusiastic on the usc sidelines. >> joel: they needed that like they needed air to breathe. >> gus: stanford really tough. looks like stanford -- you called the game yesterday in
12:15 am
stanford and oregon state as utah runs the football. what has stanford down differently after losing that season opener against northwestern? >> joel: they got back to what they are. running the football, running the rock. they found a guy that can carry it 25, 30 times with christian mccaffrey. he's not the typical back. but he's a very good between the tackles runner. now that they found that, they can go back to controlling the game. time of possession. keep the defense fresh. a defense that is young and refreshing. they look good right now. played away at oregon state. similar to this utah team. they do everything well. >> hansen again. hansen taken down inside oregon territory. folks, our joel klatt calling the game last night. joel, i hear there's a little
12:16 am
league game tomorrow in eugene. pays $2.50. what do you think? >> i'm in. i need to get my suit cleaned. but i'll be there. utah was 0-4 in pac 12 conference openings. you that will take a knee here. this has to feel good. no team in the pac 12 thus far has looked as good or as dominant here in autzen stadium. >> utah will start the season 4-0 with wins over michigan, utah state, fresno state and this impressive performance at oregon. 530 yards of total offense. no turnovers. wilson four touchdown passes, one rushing touchdown.
12:17 am
the senior who gutted it out with the shoulder injury leads the way as the utes will win this game 62-20. >> joel: the best win for utah as a member of the pac 12. kyle win hittingham has a team that can play for the pac 12 south. >> gus: we'll return to eugene

>> gus: 62-20 the final. utah remains undefeated. they beat oregon here at autzen stadium. now let's go down stairs where molly mcgrath caught up with utah head coach kyle whittingham. >> molly: coach, unbelievable play calling tonight. you took some risks with the halfback pass and the fake punt. what went into those decisions? >> you're playing oregon. you have to be ready to outscore them.
12:22 am
with explosive players. we knew we had to keep putting points on the board to have a chance. >> and your quarterback, travis wilson playing with a sprained shoulder. took some hits but still effective. what does that say about him? >> he's tough. outstanding performance by him and the whole tomorrow. so proud of travis and what he's done for us. >> molly: what kind of statement does this win make about your place in the pac 12? >> i don't know. we'll find out. certainly we've gotten better since we joined the league. a lot of tough games ahead. we have to continue to prepare and work. if we keep doing that, we might have a shot. we'll see. >> molly: thanks, coach? >> thank you. >> gus: all right. joel, when utah came in the league, coach whittingham was quoted as saying it's going to take us some time just like tcu going in the big 12. once we get some experience, we'll get the players that will allow us to be competitive. tonight was a perfect example.
12:23 am
the players that he was talking about were on the skilled position. they have got that now. scott on the outside, covey on the outside. devontae booker, the great running back. what they have always been is physical up front. the defensive line and offensive line, they've always played great there. they took oregon to task there. their defensive line -- nobody in the pac 12 or the country wants to see that defense next week. they're that good. they are. we saw them against michigan. they have been fantastic. all led by travis wilson. >> gus: that's the thing. this offense has a chance to practice against that great defense every day in practice. travis wilson continues to grow and showing tremendous leadership with this utah offense. >> joel: what he did with his feet early showed a lot of courage. he has the sprained left shoulder. he knew he would have to open it up by running the ball.
12:24 am
that opened up the passing game and lanes for booker. this was a gutty performance for travis wilson. to come on the road and beat the ducks in a ranked matchup, that was a remarkable performance. i saw him before the game, shook his hand. you could tell there was nerves there because he knew he would have to play through pain and he did. >> gus: and you've had that shoulder injury. will it get better? >> joel: yeah. the good thing is, it's in his left shoulder, not in his throwing shoulder. by the looks of it, he will be fine. >> gus: and our molly mcgrath caught up with the utah quarterback. >> molly: travis, you took a couple big hits and played with a strained left shoulder. how are you feeling? >> i'm a little worn out right now. words can't describe how great
12:25 am
this win is. so happy or players played well. the way we kept on pushing on the pedal was great. >> molly: how were you able to push through the injury to get this? >> before going in this game, i didn't want to miss this game. i kept on pushing. i mean, definitely hurt throughout the game but i knew i had to make mays. >> molly: it's not easy to get a win at autzen stadium but you dominated. what does it say about your team? >> this team is super special. we can accomplish a lot. this is just a start. we have a lot of tough games coming up. really happy with how we started and our performance. >> molly: thanks. congratulations. >> thank you. >> gus: all right. the final score here at autzen
