a major overhaul of the controversial curriculum. let's go to teresa priolo live in a newsroom with more. >> reporter: this is big news. a lot of parents happy about this. the 15 member task force things the way our teachers teach, the way our students learn and everyone is assessed is all wrong. given the controversial set of teachers in a big fat f. a big hold to be reworked. >> most parents are very much against the stress on common core end of leads to teaching for the test. i don't know anyone who likes that. >> of common core could get a report card it would be failing miserably. that is the finding from a task force implemented by governor andrew cuomo and that panel is recommending that four year moratorium. >> any movement away from that.

of national education standards were developed in 2009 as a uniform set of skills that students should master in each grade to be college ready but around the country many states are finding it isn't doing that. instead is pushing educators to teach for the tests creating stress on students and calling into question how we evaluate our teachers. in new york common core makes up at least 20% of how students are evaluated but that might soon change. the task force suggested overhauling how students learn, how they are tested and how our teachers are assessed. the recommendation, 21 in all, include a hold on linking tests, and their length. and community feedback on the quality of those tests. governor andrew cuomo now doing an about-face embracing the

core was supposed to ensure all of our children have the education they needed to be collagens career ready but it actually causes confusion and anxiety. the complete 180 in the wake of 20%, sitting out a test in april. the recommendations unveil hours after president barack obama signed a new bill prohibiting the federal government from mandating states adopt standards like common core. in new york these recommendations must be approved by governor cuomo and the border regions. you heard that statement praising the suggestion, the legislature has recently appointed several regions that have been critical of the state's current test evaluation system. they will meet again in january some recommendations could be approved as soon as monday. that is the latest in the newsroom.
