we start with breaking news going over to the bronx. she firefighters have been battling a 6 alarm blaze and there were several injuries, several firefighters hurt, robert moses is live in it is now under control. what can you tell us? >> reporter: it is. breaking details, got a couple minutes ago, nine injuries we are told, six firefighters, three civilians, fortunately all our might. check it out as you go down valentine avenue to the south. the original fire building is still smoke pouring out of the roof. the fire began last night at 11:42 p.m. 26 valentine avenue. the wall of flame travel north rapidly, leaping from one house to the next to the next to the next, all told at least eight homes word damaged or destroyed.

people's homes in the second building. the families at 346 east 60 third street had a couple hours to pack up their stuff and go. first avenue between 57 food and 65th still closed. contractors they are trying to move along so they can reopen the streets by monday but the building department has not given a time line. ben: there have been a couple robberies in and around central park, police may have caught a gain of violent robbers who were targeting people, four suspects were arrested yesterday, the youngest just 14 years old, the oldest is 20, the gangs was in the park by east 70 third street in east drive when they punched a 19-year-old man in the face cancel his i found, that is a boat house there. the suspect could be connected to two other robberies in the past couple days in and around the park. juliet: jury deliberations in the federal corruption trial of senate leader dean scelos and

jurors asked to listen again to the wiretap and other secret recordings. the one time powerful republican is accused of using his position to strongarm three businesses into giving his son adam $300,000 in fees and benefits up. scelos and his son have denied wrongdoing. ben: andrew cuomo put together a task force to make recommendations about the common core curriculum, curriculum n.y. state along with any other state, 45 others have adopted. there has been some pushback. juliet: i talked to parents of kids and is common core thing and they don't understand what is going on here. a lot of parents want to overhaul the system or completely get rid of it. teresa priolo is here to give us the details on the latest on this. >> reporter: we heard stories about these tests they give, they are so convoluted and adult intensive them but this 15

our teachers teach, the way our students learn and everyone is assessed is all wrong, giving the controversial set of standards a big fat f and reworked. >> most parents are very against but stress on common core and test. >> reporter: if common core could get a report card it would be failing miserably. that is the finding from a task force implemented by andrew cuomo and now that panel is recommending and a four year moratorium. >> any movement away from that. >> reporter: common core set of national education standards were developed in 2009 as a uniform set of skills that students should mastery in each grade to the college ready but around the country many states are finding it isn't doing that instead pushing educators to teach for the test creating stress on students and calling

our teachers. in new york the common core makes up 20% of how teachers are evaluated but that might soon change. the test for suggest overhauling how students learn, how they are tested and how our teachers are as tests. the recommendations, 21 in all, include a hold on linking test to teacher performance reducing the amount of test days and their link and getting students and community feedback on the quality of those tests. governor andrew cuomo doing an about-face embracing the change saying, quote, the common core was supposed to ensure all our children had education they needed to be collagens career ready but it actually caused confusion and anxiety. that ends now. the complete 180 coming in the wake of 20% of new york students sitting out the test in april. the recommendations unveiled hours after president barack

prohibiting the federal government from mandating states adopt standards like the common core. the recommendations need to be first approved by the governor and then the border regions. the governor has raised these suggestions so it seems he will be on board with this. the legislature recently appointed several new regents who have been critical of the state's current test and evaluation system. it stands to reason this is going to go through. they will meet next week and again in january so these recommendations could be approved as soon as monday. it has a lot of parents quite happy somebody's hearing them out. ben: bill deblasio is undergoing surgery today to read kerri area. the error's office said he developed a injury recently with a hernia and occurs when tissue pushes its way through a weak spot in muscle. bill deblasio's case it will be an outpatient procedures are relatively minor. he will be off today and
