>> the water is safe and drinkable. that's important for folks to know. >> it's an important message from the mayor of newark but still, residents with children attending the city's public school are concerned. >> level should be tested every six months. >> unusually high levels found in the drinking water schools. as a result, the water fountains and the sinks have been shut off. >> the district and the city in the state have been working closely in the minute we found out what was happening here. >> the issue was uncovered during routine testing. some levels were found to be lower than the epa action level and once you hit that benchmark, further testing must be done. epa lead levels 15 ppb and at cleveland elementary school, led registered at 158 parts. it's 550 8 ppb. this is causing a great deal of worry because of the water crisis in flint.

they were found during routine testing of the schools and of the water supply. the epa standard is normally 15 ppb , some schools are at 558 parts per billion. this school that i am in front of is at 25 ppb. it's elevated but not as much. they are shutting off all the water in the schools. that includes the drinking water at the water water fountains in the bathroom sinks and cafeterias. this is such a major concern because of the health implication but because of the buzz surrounding flint michigan and the water crisis that they are experiencing there.because of that, because of all of this, parents are up in arms. >> the water in new york is safe and drinkable. >> a lot of these are older schools and older piping. we need to address this
