metro card swipes for numb one dollar apiece. when a woman tried to buy a swipe an argument ensued. a relative, a man believed to be her father, stepped in and things escalated, culminating with the 53-year-old man being knifed, bleeding profusely, hopped on a number 2 train and took a ride one stop where he collapsed. paramedics rushed him to saint luke's hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. the stop is equipped with surveillance cameras. police are pulling that vehicle to see if it yields clues. this incident comes on the heels of a string of stabbings citywide. the nypd has stepped up its patrols in subway stations and on the trains. officers are required to patrol the trains nightly between 8:00 pm and 4:00 a.m..
