it's not just controversial here in new york it's really something that nationally has drawn the eye of parents, students and teachers. parents do have a legal right to not have their child set for the test. the big question mark is, who will sit for it and how many students? will they do well on it? there's a lot of reasons why parents, students and teachers are not in favor. they claim the old test were not grade appropriate and they said it assumes that all students learn at the same pace and in the same way. they believe that these exams change the culture of the classroom and it's in large part because it tied teacher performance to the results of the test. all of this has been changed with this new test and they are shorter and not timed. they will stand alone meaning that they will not be tied to the teacher
