perplexed and terrified. >> it's not like there's so many homeless people bothering you. there's nobody here. it's very quiet, the neighborhood. i find it unbelievable that she would be attacked the way she was. >> reporter: since wednesday, police have been going door to door asking for any surveillance video people might have and inquiring if they've seen anyone or anything suspicious. they've evidence. all items are being tested for dna in hopes it will reveal the responsible person, the nypd offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of of the killer. >> there's people i've spoken to, they couldn't sleep all night. they're frightened. >> you don't know whether this is somebody that knew her and you're hoping it is because that means everybody else is safe. but if it was a random, then everybody else is vulnerable and

>> reporter: often regarded as quiet and peaceful, this family oriented neighborhood is tense. >> everybody that i've spoken to, i have grandchildren that they come usually in the wintertime every day after school. and i know several other grandparents that are watching their grandchildren. and now they don't want them to ride their bikes because they have girls 12 to 17 and they feel -- they're frightened. they don't want them to go walking home from school or anything. suddenly everybody is children. because this should never have happened. not in this neighborhood. >> reporter: christina, at this time, police do believe that this attack was random. police still investigating. they're hoping anybody with any sort of information comes forward. back to you in the studio. christina: be watching and waiting. thank you. in other news, today the chicago pd released video of a police shooting that killed an

the wounded driver, 18-year-old paul o'neal, was handcuffed after a foot chase. the videos do not show o'neal getting shot. one officer accused o'neal of firing at police. but no gun was recovered at the scene. malaysian officials are now confirming a pilot on malaysia airlines flight 370 charted a suicide course on his home simulator, but it was one of thousands of destinations and there's no evidence he flew tha 239 people were killed when that plane veered off course and disappeared. >> hackers facing their way to democratic national convention files, new steps are being taken to make sure voting machines are safe. big apple voters fill out a paper ballot that is scanned into a machine. two hard drives are in each. one is left inside and one is taken out.

question with the veracity of the results on election night, we have the paper to rely on. christina: as a security precaution against hackers, the voting machines are not networked to each other. turning to the race for the white house, hillary clinton was in washington speaking to a gathering of black and hispanic journals and spoke about her e-mail controversy saying she may have short-circuited her answers about it. clinton still insists she never sent or received information. donald trump held a rally in iowa trying to get his campaign back on track. he spoke about the core ideas in his bid for the white house and promised to role out an economic plan next week. he spent much of his time criticizing his democratic opponent. >> unstable hillary clinton lacks the judgment, temperament and moral character to lead this country. and i believe that so strongly.

endorse house speaker paul ryan in his primary race, a reversal of what he said earlier this week. >> many of trump's properties have actually seen a drop in visitors in the past year, but that's not the case at trump tower here in manhattan. the iconic building continues to be a tourist destination, drawing constant crowds trying to get a glimpse of the candidate. most have to settle on buying a souvenir from the gift shop. all right. beautiful day today. it's getting a little steamy outside. nick: feel the humidity up a bit. that trend is going to continue right in through tomorrow. a real steamy day ahead and showers and storms will start to return tomorrow. the second half of the weekend will be good. it's not all a loss. 83, 69 today, pretty much average. record high 100. the record low 56. and, again, we're not having those temperatures anytime soon. currently in new york city, we're holding at 79 where the dew point has snuck up to 64.

remind you is when it starts to feel uncomfortable outside. that dew point number will keep rising because we have a south-southwesterly wind in play. the pressure continues to fall off in advance of a cold front that will be approaching tomorrow. we had 80s for the area today except montauk at 77. it was mid 80s bridgeport. 86 poughkeepsie. 84 at newark. 81 at the jersey shore. temperatures now holding into the upper 70s to about 80 or so. 79 in the city to belmar. 77 islip. into the hudson valley and 79 allentown as you head towards sussex in the upper 70s in new jersey. dew point numbers creeping up now. dew point of 67 at sussex. 68 up there in sullivan county. low 60s elsewhere. the humidity on the increase. an uncomfortable night coming up with patchy fog and maybe a shower or two. there's nothing nearby now. there's the wind south, now veering to southwest. that will take us into tomorrow with a cold front approaching

nearby. maybe a little lone shower in the catskills region, but that's about it. it's off to the west here where the action is going on. even there it's not a lot. some may appear as a stray shower or two around town. tomorrow, the action will get going as we get into the southwesterly wind and wait for the cold front to approach from the west. the morning will feature sunshine getting through the clouds, a humid day. showers and storms start as early as 1:00 across the western suburbs and that trend will continue into the e after that, things will get better. here's our day planner shows 70s out the door in town. a few upper 60s in the suburbs. 82 at lunchtime. showers and storms in the afternoon into the early evening as we hit 88 tomorrow afternoon. watch as the front moves along. the thunderstorms go away. look at all this nice real estate of nice weather going back into the middle part of the country. we'll get set up for nice weather on sunday into early next week. lots of clouds tonight.

don't expect much. 73 in the city. upper 60s to near 70 in the suburbs. a bit of sunshine mainly tomorrow morning. more showers and storms in the afternoon. up to 88, staying in the middle 80s as you get to the shore. beautiful on sunday. bright and sunny. the humidity drops. we get to 87 monday, tuesday. beautiful days. middle 80s with low humidity. lots of sun. then back to the upper 80s for wednesday and thursday. more humid days. could be a late day or nighttime thunderstorm on wednesday and returning on friday as we stay in the lower 80s. most of the weekend i think will be okay. tomorrow afternoon and early evening is the problem. christina: could be a lot worse. thanks a lot. mark teixeira is hanging up his pinstripes. he became quite emotionally when he announced he will retire at the end of the year. he spent eight years with the yankees and was a key member of the 2009 world championship team. remember that? he will be remembered as one of the top hitting and fielding first baseman of all time and

christina: welcome back. when the national do not call registry was introduced, we flocked to it by the millions to avoid being bothered by calls to sell us stuff we don't want. now the same is being done for our homes. stacey delikat has more on no knock laws. >> this came about two weeks ago. i put it up right away. >> reporter: james is one of 1600 residents of the clarkstown who have signed up for the no knock registry. he was one of many homeowners fed u up at their doors. >> unlicensed people coming up during the spring through the fall and getting seniors to -- or regular people to just go for bogus oiling of the driveway or roofing work and stuff. >> there's been a lot of overly aggressive solicitations. it's been everything from realtors that have been really

neighborhood and it becomes a quality of life thing. >> reporter: this is the town supervisor of clarkstown, one of three counties to pass the law implementing a no knock registry. >> if you want to buy something, go to the store. go online. you should have the ability to have privacy within your home where your peace and quiet and comfort won't be disturbed by someone coming to try to tell something to you. >> reporter: similar to do not call registries, the programs allow residents addresses to opt out of commercial solicitations. they're given window decals or signs to display on their property. violators could face penalties and fines of up to $2500 per offense. >> it's very important, especially with all the scams going on, that we have something in place that will allow them to take action. >> reporter: solicitors who go door to door for religious or political purposes are exempt.

those is set to be introduced in the fall. christina: all right. we're joined by david carlucci, thanks for being here. you've done great work in rockland county. tell us about how this works. >> as we've seen, we've heard so many requests in terms of people coming to people's doors and really being aggressive about trying to get people to sell their homes. so i've called on the secretary of state to come in and do come in and use some of the tools they have available to them. as you've seen, many municipalities are creating these do not knock registries and we've said the state has a process. let's get them in here to decide what's the best tool to use. they've got a multitude of tools they can use. they can do a cease and desist zone. people can register, like a do not call list, they can put

means real estate brokers cannot solicit them. anyone living in the area on the streets could not be solicited. christina: do you get any knocks? >> i haven't. christina: i hate it. i've had it done. makes me feel helpless and alarmed and if they're really aggressive, it's a horrible feeling. you can't make them go away. >> that's the problem. it's aggressive tactics. inducement is what we call it. anytime someone comes to your house and don't sell now, you're going to lose out. you're going to lose money. the neighborhood's changing. you've got to sell now. and we can get you a good price. but you've got to do it now. those tactics are very aggressive. that's what we want to prevent. christina: it's good quality of life action. how hard will it be to enforce? >> the secretary of state for

licensing all the real estate agents and brokers. christina: they're the main offenders. >> right. that's who we can control. the problem will come up when it's someone acting on their own. maybe they want to buy the property or what not. they're not acting on behalf of an agent or what not. that would be the problem. the secretary of state has the authority. they're the ones that license our real estate agents. that's why we're asking the secretary of state come in. listen to the people. it doesn't have to come from me, a politician. listen to the residents in our you decide. use those multiple of tools you have available to improve the quality of life of people living in rockland as well s around the state of new york. christina: everyone says it's a good idea. girl scout cookies is still okay? >> still okay. this is specifically for that solicitation to sell or buy homes. christina: senator, thank you so much. it's been enlightening. appreciate it. coming up, frozen drinks that don't look like drinks and where
