deals and scandals keep dogging her and her campaign. >> reporter: for the first time, donald trump has begun airing tv ads in four crucial swing states. until this point, critics charged team trump of running an unserious campaign after being outspent by the clintons by $61 million to zero in the last two months. the billioaire has famously doubted effectiveness of political ads saying his giant social media presence and news coverage are enough. coverage in the last year and a half. alison: no such thing as a quiet summer friday in the campaign. joining me, tara, thank you for coming in. the paul manafort situation, do we have any sense where this came from, how it burst on to the scene? >> one thing is for sure, he had no choice but to step down and resign. it was only a matter of when. this is -- these are very

there could be criminality here. he was starting to outshine the candidate, which is hard to do when the candidate is donald trump. he was -- so much attention was forming around him. i suspect -- look, politics is a blood sport. it would not surprise me, he pulled the power struggle. he won that power struggle. that doesn't leave the people who lost the power struggle happy. it would not surprise me if this did not come from someone he forced out. maybe lewandowski. it would not be out of the realm of possibility. people in politics can have sharp elbows and long memories. alison: it could be internal strife? >> potentially. lewandowski, he posted a tweet about the secret ledger that paul manafort was on accepting cash payments from a foreign government entity. alison: we'll be hearing more about this. so much happened today.

there's been so much talk about president obama has not gone. hillary clinton has not gone. what is the right move to make? we heard officials in louisiana saying come, but don't come here and make this a press opportunity if you're running for office. >> well, the governor of louisiana has asked that none of the major presidential candidates or the president of the united states come to louisiana. his concern was diverting resources away from the actual rescue effort. when a donald trump comes in, that's sec that's logistics with the local police departments and officials. that's time that could be dvoted saving people. fom an optics standpoint, yes. does it make him look good? yes. from the resource standpoint dealing with the crisis, i question whether it was the right move. you have people who are literally drowning. alison: campaign ads. big shift today. trump wasn't spending any money on them. now that's changed. where do we stand now that he's made that big adjustment? what's the climate now?

at the end of the day, he was running a nontraditional campaign as we have observed. he continues to run a nontraditional campaign. at the end of the day, there are things in campaigns that have to exist. ads is one of them. he was benefitting from a ton of what we call earned media. that's the publicity that he was garnering, dominating the network news every night. that's not the case anymore. secretary clinton is on the news a bit. she's getting a lot of earned media. if he wants to to do the things to make you competitive. alison: he is so nontraditional. do you just have to play along? the campaign ads, you have to get in there? >> yes. and the ground game. it's questionable what he'll do about that. as of right now, he does not have a real field operation in place. and this is not the primary. this is a whole different environment, reset, whole new ball game. he has to adapt to the traditional things. there's a reason they've been

tonight 5 miles an hour. it will be east becoming southeasterly tomorrow, picking up in the afternoon to about 10 or 15 miles an hour. there's a couple of showers trying to get going on long island. not much going on there. that's a dying shower south of hartford. that's off the ocean. nothing is nearby as we look at the wide view. we'll be okay with clouds around as the night goes along. the showers and storms are not going to survive past sunset. things will be quiet as we move into our but as we look at the map, showers and storms say off to the carolinas. the cold front coming through and there's a disturbance moving along the front. that moves into our neighborhood for sunday afternoon into sunday night. tomorrow, nice, 70s in the city. 60s in the suburbs. 81 at lunchtime. clouds will build in the afternoon, but dry at 86. here's your futurecast showing that we'll see cooler readings at the coast. trying to create a couple of showers inland tomorrow.
