barricaded himself in the apartment, which is around the corner. they have the media pretty far back. but you can see the firefighters and the police officers on the scene. we saw at least 30 residents forced to evacuate a little while ago. this is an active standoff. everything started from a domestic violence call. police have confirmed that the suspect bare barricaded inside has fired shots at officers. as we know right now, no one has been hurt. residents have been told to stay inside and away from the windows or evacuate the area because of the gunfire. the armed suspect is alone in the apartment right now. the coral garden apartments in the 2800 block of regency drive and melbourne. the red cross is here helping residents who are displaced from the homes. other neighbors said that they are staying at friend's house until things are clear. and one neighbor said she knows the man inside.

situation here at coral garden apartments. this was occurring at a residence on ellen court. as officers were arriving to the scene, they quickly learned from a complainant that the individual inside the home was armed with a firearm. at this time, that firearm is unknown, what type. the incident soon became an armed barricaded subject incident. everyone else in the home was able to leave. the only person left inside was the suspect. at approximately 1:04 a.m. the suspect began to fire the firearm. soon after that, the subject began shooting out the window, towards it's parking lot area where the officers were on scene. officers were forced to return fire because of this. at this point, no officers have been injured.

inside is unknown. although he is communicating with officers still. we have officers on scene still negotiating with him and trying to bring this to a peaceful resolution. we are currently receiving assistance from the brevard county sheriff's office swat team. the melbourne fire department has come out to assist with evacuations of neighboring apartments. some of the residents had special needs. the fire department has helped with that. the american red cross is on scene also to assist some of these people that have been displaced because of this incident. again, that's really the information i can give right now. other than the subject is a white male. he's 47 years of age. i can note give his name at this time. as far as firearm, again, we don't know particulars on firearms. the number of fire rarms inside the residence, we don't know.

between the subject and our officers. >> can you let us know why he barricaded himself need? inside? he in indication to officers of why he [inaudible] . >> at this time we don't know why. we're fortunate enough to have everyone else outside of the apartment that was in there when we initially got the call for service. but, again, the reason why this individual has chosen to barricade himself, and exchange gunfire with police, is unknown. >> how many residents have been evacuated? >> i don't have the total number. again, we did evacuate neighboring apartments. because of special needs for some of those people, we received assistance from our fire department, and, of course, the american red cross is on me. the brunswick harbor lanes has been good enough to open their doors to get these people out of the elements and give them a place to stay while this incident goes on.

good debt is debt you take on for assets that grow in value, like a mortgage payment. or a business owner, if you take on business debt to expand business or increase earnings. bad debt, credit card debt, which is the worst debt to have. get rid of the bad debt. be careful. if you don't have the cash, you could look at getting a home equity line of credit and use that money, just enough to pay the bad debt. what you do is the monthly payment on the credit cards, you use that to pay off the home ec quitline. you can't do what jayme wants to do, buy a sail boat on top of paying for your credit card debt. you can't do that. >> jayme: all right. >> amy: he's all about the fishing. >> that's what you do. you don't want to tap into 401-k. you can typically borrow and pay
