it's 8:00 a.m. from fox 35, this is good day orlando. and good morning. i'm tom johnson. it's saturday 16th. here are the top stories we're working on this morning. we start with mary wynne. suspects are on the loose after they crash into a car. that story coming up. investigators searching for this man and another person accused of breaking into an elderly person's house, locking her in the bathroom. and python hunting season kicks off today. good luck to you. you won't see me out there with you.

we also have what you need to know about the weather. leslie hudson in for brooks. i know it's more changes on the way. it was cold then it was warm then it's going to be cold and rainy again. >> and maybe another round of severe weather. >> today will be gorgeous as we take a look from downtown orlando. absolutely gorgeous start to the saturday today. looks fantastic. it's going to warm up nicely. and while you sleep tonight another round of severe weather could be rolling in. here is our camera, though, this is visit orlando power cam. another vantage point. a beautiful start to our day. temp 55-degrees. wind out of the south. generally speaking winds will be out of the south throughout the day today, and a bit cooler since the cold front yesterday. unusual we're getting another round of severe storms.

people sleep at night. meanwhile the winds out of the south, southwest indicate we have some moisture coming in out of the gulf of mexico. there's that front that came through yesterday. going to race across the south eastern u.s. through tonight and through the gulf of pleax and right over central florida tonight and early tomorrow morning, increasing that chance of strong storms and severe weather. here's your planner for the day. gorl yous sunshine, warm weather and much more on the weekend in just a few minutes. new this morning a teenager is in the hospital after an orlando police officer shot him during a traffic stop early this morning. two other people still on the run. it started on north lane and ended on stonybrook lane when the car crashed into the house. mary wynne is live on the scene with the latest details.

>> place say the car crash ended right over here. you can see these tire marks. a 17-year-old is in custody. two people are still on the run. it happened around midnight early this morning. police were trying to pull over a car, a white charger with three people inside. when cops got out of the car to try to talk to the suspects, the driver, 17-year-old tried take off. one of the police officers shot at the car because the 17-year-old driver kept ongoing and almost hit cuff the officers. it ended up crashing into a home. detectives say the white charger was reported stollen out of orange county. lamas was reported missing. live in orange county, mary wynne, fox 35 news. 8:03 now, a fox 35 crime

kissimmee police need your help finding two men who beat a woman and locked her in her bathroom. he's described as between 5-10 and 6-feet tall, wearing a red hooded sweatshirt and black pants. the 85-year-old woman woke up to find the two men in her bedroom thursday night. she thought her grandson was playing a prank on her, but she quickly realized that wasn't the case. the man demanded money and pills and kicked her and locked her up in the bathroom for about a half hour. the suspects tried to steal her car and that's when she attracted aattention. >> by the time i made it over there and hopped the fence i could hear him hitting the other one. >> if you think you know who this guy is or anything that might solve this call crime

that number is 800-423-tips. let me give it to you again. it's 800-423-tips. new this morning, st. cloud police say they've arrested a man in a sexual battery investigation, but it wasn't easy. detectives arrested 29-year-old davion torres. he took off and found him in a nearby park and arrested him. when officers went in his house they say they found dna evidence linking him to the investigation. torres is in the osceola county jail without bond. a woman is dead after a car crash in st. cloud. rebecca lawson was in a ford taurus. investigators think she pulled out in front of an f250 truck and taken to the hospital where she died from her injuries.

a store worker at the via port mall charged with sexual battery. the victim told police she was assaulted and held against her will by an employee at kappa do kappa dochca art store. cops arrested the 34-year-old late thursday. he's charged with sexual battery and false imprisonment. police are concerned there could be more victims. >> there was anybody that could have any odd interaction would ask them to come forward. >> he's being held on $30,000 bond. we have learned 126 people have been freed from a hotel in the west african country. this after al qaeda extremists seized the hotel. forces have retaken control of the hotel and a cafe that was involved. we learned one u.s. military

forces on the scene. although 22 people died. 33 people hurt. crews continuing to search for 12 missing marines that disappeared after two helicopters crashed off the island of hawaii. several people on the island reported hearing a loud explosion just as the crash happened. searchers have spotted debris field including an empty life raft. we'll let you know if they find anything. a 13-year-old boy landed himself in juvenile detection accused of taking a school bus on a joyride. they caught up with him about five miles away from lake county's bus depot where it all started. leesburg police say the real bus driver parked, went in the building, came out and her bus

>> juveniles that commit any crimes, particularly stealing a school bus where a lot of damage could be inflicted as a result of that, so it's very concerning. we're glad that he was taken into custody without any significant so he or anyone else. >> the bus was damaged. police estimate it at about $1,000. 8 minutes after 8:00. the apopka police department pairing up with the zoo hosting a bear program. black bears are common in central florida neighborhoods. this one weighed more than 6 hundred pounds. keep your trash cans inside. do not leave them overnight. they do what this one is doing in the video. the city will give tips at 1:00 today at the apopka amphitheater. hunters and gathers meeting

the democratic presidential candidates getting ready for their third debate tomorrow, it and looks like attacking each other and republicans is the name of the game. hillary clinton accusing bernie sanders of breaking an edge of not running an ad. defending thairs saying their ad being too cozy with wall street is factual. slamming donald trump on the tonight show saying trump is a lot more obsessed with her than she is with him. all right. political analyst frank torres it. you know, the dems have not been all that contentious, i don't think up until now, and it looks like the gloves if they're not untied. >> you recall bernie sanders passing up a couple chances to attack hillary clinton. and he's been very passive with

and hasn't taken those chances. i've seen them as blown opportunity, but as this race gets more and more competitive you'll see those chances a little bit more. >> as that pressure starts to ratchet up. so the republicans had their debate earlier this week. any change that is you see in the polling that's going to happen because of that? anybody come out way ahead because of it? >> i thought it was a terrific debate. the best debate up to this point, but i think you're going to see the front runners stay the same. you're going see ted cruz and donald trump start jockeying for position in iowa and marco rubio and jeb get in position for new hampshire there. nothing's going to really change where everybody had great lines on the offensive and defensive end. >> let's look forward to the dems tomorrow. if you're hillary clinton you do a what? >> you're a little bit more

this has become more of a race. who would have thought bernie sanders -- especially on foreign policy where bernie isn't really that strong so, and if you're bernie start to attack a little bit. don't let her get so many free passes like in previous debates. >> . when you say start to attack a little bit. what do you do? >> she took some votes from the other side, and you're going to have to get on your opposition research and bring those up in the middle of the debate and sort of question her credentials. you need to take advantage of this momentum you've got. right now everybody's paying attention to bernie sanders, and he needs to prove he's the real deal. >> all right, frank, good to see you. good stuff. it is 8:16 now. people are cleaning up today after the severe storm that is pushed through central florida yesterday.

lines. a tree limb just missed hitting the blue car that you might have seen in this video that took down power lines instead. no one was hurt, thousand. before the storms arrived they caused damage near sarasota county. the roof was blown off a building in venice. there was trouble high in the skies over florida too. at least six people hurt when an american airlines flight hit heavy turbulence, six crew on board, one flight attendapt has a broken necessary to after the flight. it caused flight delays at orlando international airport. and leslie hudson in for brooks today. nothing like that going on right now. it is beautiful outside. >> it really is, and it's such a gorgeous day today, and tomorrow after the storms it will be nice late in the afternoon. we've got to talk about some strong to severe weather again

make sure your weather radios are turned on, your apps close by so you are prepared. i'll get to all of that. let me show you what's going on now. we've got our webcam in cocoa beach. a little too cold for me to get in the water, but if you're from up north this is probably just about gorgeous for you. 54 is our current air temperature. south so southwest winds at 3. there's going to be a little bit of an on shore wind so you'll want to make sure you check in with the life guards this time of year. the surf not too bad 2-3 feet. the temperature a cool, chilly 67-degrees. here's a look what happened last night. so we had the severe storm that is moved through parts of florida. there was a report of a tornado in bell glade which is in palm beach county. now a lot of that moved out here. there's dry air at the mid levels and upper-levels of the

and the leading edge of our next storm system that comes tonight is rapidly approaching, and this one looks to be lining up a little better with jet stream that could bring in strong or severe storms tonight. rainfall potentials about half an inch of rainfall through tonight and early into tomorrow morning. the time window here probably 8:00 a.m. i'll put it in motion and see the big area of low pressure coming in, ricing across central florida through the overnight. here we are at 5:45 tomorrow morning. the storm systems out ahead of this. the problem is this low pressure's going to be moving over central florida. that's where the rotation could possibly develop as that storm system moves here. then it's out of here by 10:00 tomorrow morning. some morning clouds this play and everything should clear out on sunday. much cooler weather moving into the picture into the next couple of days as well. so daytime highs will be in the

themselves. fox's karen mccue shows you. >> reporter: talk about a lucky dog. this pooch is part of a tennessee family that won the lottery. john says he purchased the ticket at a grocery store on the way home from work. he's an it and his wife works at a dermatologist office. both say they're keeping their jobs. >> why not? >> that's all we've done our lives is work. you just can't sit down and lay down and not do nothing anymore. i mean, how long will you going to last? >> reporter: the robinsons have two children, a son who's an electrician and a daughter who just graduated from college. >> when we bought the tickets our first priority was pay her student loans off because we just want at little piece of the pie. now i'm real grateful that we got the big piece of the pie.

awe, yeah, good day orlando. what a beautiful shot from i-drive. our camera on top of the hyatt regency just starting to bring you the shots of the camera because our camera just went active occupy -- active up there. beautiful, blue skies this morning. 53-degrees. a lot better than a few days ago if you don't like the chilly weather. there are some changes coming. right now welcome back. i'm tom johnson. here are the top stories. we start with mary wynne. an officer is being investigated after he shot a teenager after a traffic stop. plus a big rate hike would be on the way for florida power and light customers. one little boy just became the coolest on the playground.

now let's bring leslie hudson in for brooks. it was cold then it started raining a lot. way. >> yeah, it's unusual we get these storm systems back to back like this, but when you're in an deal with. we're going to be talking about strong storms and possibly, possibly severe thunderstorms. keep your radios handy and you've got your apps close by, your phone close by in the event there is some severe weather tonight. so that's all coming in about 12-16 hours. for now it's gorgeous. we've got lots of sunshine out there. our last cold front last night's out of here. going to have just today to deal with all this warm air and sunny skies and tomorrow is when our second storm system arrives. you see it come into play along texas. beautiful start to the weekend.

winds have been out of the south which tells us we're getting some very humid, moist air coming out of the gulf of mexico which will help aid in stronger storms tonight. temps right now, 55 in the city, 52 up in gainesville, and it should be a cool morning but rapidly rebounding into the 70s today and above the normal for this time of the year. temps and the winds have been pretty steady. probably stay that way through the day today. you've got plenty of sunshine in the forecast for today. those storms dront roll into central florida until late tonight through the overnight. i'll show you the computer minutes. new this morning a teenager is in the hospital after a police officer shot him during a traffic stop. two others involved are still son the run.

the very close by on stonybrook lane. mary wynne live on the scene with the latest. good morning again, mary. >> reporter: this is where it all ended. you can see these tire tracks where the car actually ended up crashing into this car. a 17-year-old was shot and two us is -- suspects are on the run. this happened around 12:00 this morning. officers tried to pull over a white charger for a traffic violation. three people were inside the car. when cops got out of their car to talk to the suspects the driver, 17-year-old put the car in reverse and tried to take off the police officers shot at the car because the 17-year-old driver kept going and almost hit him. he ended up crashing into this empty house. the white charger is a car that was actually reported stollen out of orange county. he was later arrested and taken to the hospital and in stable condition.

investigating the officer-involved shooting. no one else was injured. mary wynne, fox 35 news. 8:34, marion county deputies want you watching if a man they say is pulling people over with a fake patrol car. kind of scary. sheriff's office sent us this picture of a jeep they say he's using. we're told he pulled over the car on northeast 35th street thursday. the jeep has blue and red flashing lights in the front grill. also has white flashing lights down the side. if this jeep tries to pull you over keep driving and call 911. a judge agreed to delay toledo's murder trial. no word yet when the new trial date will be. he's accused of killing his wife and two children in 2013. the prosecution does plan to seek the death penalty, but they ask for the delay after the supreme court ruled that

procedures are unconstitutional. hearing arguments regarding the case of a man already on death row, carrie michael is supposed to be put to death death on february 11th. lawyers want the state supreme court to indefinitely postpone his execution. the court refused to do that but they say they'll hear oral arguments on whether the supreme court ruling specifically impacts his case. wildlife trappers hope to catch a coyote in one of central florida's most exclusive communities. people reported at least five sightings in the past week. trappers say how the coyote god got to the island is a mystery. >> one of our biggest concerns

island is smaller than the they rent. most of the lots are cleared out. where they're running out right now is a small patch of woods along the shore line. >> trappers say they will keep checking the trap daily until the coyote is caught. florida power and light wants state regulators to approve a rate hike. the average customer would bay an extra $8.50 starting in 2017, but the hike would jump to $14 a month by the 2020. they need the extra money to cover $16 billion to improve electricity service. they also say it will help with building a $1.3 billion natural gas power plant. state regulators expect to make a decision on the request by the end of november. florida power and light is the state's largest electricity provider. a non-profit group at ucf is

adam breed with lockeed martin are here to talk more about it. how you doing? >> awesome. great. thanks for having us here. >> this is one of the things i love is all of the simulator that is show up. what is this one we're looking at here? >> this is our flight simulator. we use it internally and publicly. we're showing it on multiple stations. we have laptops. you can get in and fly. we're showing an f22 a raptor. >> can i try this? >> we're going to pause it. on your left is your throttle. >> pull back a little bit. you got it. you're a professional here. >> i'm a professional at something, probably not this. all right, i'm going to go up and then go down, down. >> go down, down. there it is! now, this is an actual -- here we go.

this is an actual simulator. this is how pilots train. >> you have to think of entry-level pilots will probably start here and they can move up to bigger and larger devices. it's pretty much available and you would start from a low end to a high end. >> and this throttle and this stick are very similar to what they would see in an actual aircraft. >> it's very important to train on hardware to what the real aircraft is. and this is kind of the flavor of the otronicon. >> to understand how cool the stuff is. >> and so far i haven't crashed. >> let's move over and talk to howard. that baby's going to crash now. >> we've been very happy to be at otronicon since it's

we get to do outreach to the community. children and people who usually don't see this kind of stuff that we build get to see it. >> it's a kind of a behind the scenes peek at amazing technology. >> today what i'm going to show you is basically one of the things that we do is serious games, and what that is it's sort of a simulation and puts the fun into learning. this is something that -- [ indistinguishable ] especially for engagement. this is something we built for the veteran's administration. as you know when they are about to -- when they have to train in the hospital in order to react to emergencies and other things like this they have what they call a crash cart. when somebody's crashing they pull this cart in which has all the equipment to respond to the emergency. every hospital has things arranged a little bit differently, and this is a fun and whimsical that helps them remember where things are.

>> and so do you guys make these for different hospitals so they can train according to their crash carts? >> there's an authorizing tool and each hospital can change it up as they change their procedures to what they need. this doctor has asked me to find a piece of equipment, and and i'm going to see if i know where that is. >> if you don't you're goan going to to get yelled at? >> even if i -- >> what are you trying to do to this man? >> that's great. okay, so people coming to otronicon are they going to be able to walk by and see this or do it themselveses? themselves. my son played it yesterday. >> i was a boss on that game. >> wow. >> there's a training mode and you get to play the game. and there's a leader board so hospitals and even across the

can compete against each other. >> really appreciate you showing it to us. the otronicon is at the orlando science center today 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. monday 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. all right, it is 8:48 now and let's see what the weather east going to be like the rest of the day because it sure is nice right now, leslie. >> it's gorgeous out there. it's such a bummer i've got let you know about strong storms headed our way. you've got all day today. tonight should look pretty good. it's going to start to get dicey later tonight and especially while you're sleeping tonight and early tomorrow. we want to get the message out because a lot of people sleep at night and that's when the strong or severe storms could be moving into play. you want to get a plan in place

another vantage point. we are looking with a beautiful sky today. temperatures will get into the 70s. right now we're at 55-degrees and the wind are south at about 5 miles an hour. those are expected to stay between 5 and 10 throughout the morning. the south wind helping to create some of the instability in the atmosphere. that's going to help carry some moisture, and you can't see it. the moisture kind of sits there and we get some lift from the storm system. that can actually be severe at times. we'll see how that plays out. for now the radar clear. we saw our storms yesterday move through in the course of about six hours, and that's going to be the same time window for us tonight. temperatures in the mid-50s. this is actually a little bit of a normal, even though it's cool out there right now, normal morning low is 51, 52-degrees for this time of the year. things are quiet now. it's a fast-moving storm system. it's in texas just like the last

on thursday we were watching the storm system, the first one that came through yesterday. now our second one is going to move rapidly towards florida. the area of low pressure, the nerve center of the cold front is going to move right over florida. that's why the potential is there for some stronger storms because the low, the first time went up in the care lie -- carolinas. this one forecasted to move right over florida quick pli through the overnight, and that's why we could see some strong storms. it moves quickly through tonight. the window from about 3:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., maybe 10:00 depending on the timing of the low. that center of low pressure crossing over central florida tonight. that helps create rotation. we do think there's going to be some strong winds inside these thunderstorms. the storm prediction center in normon, oklahoma believe an isolated threat is there.

sure you're got your radios turned on tonight or use your apps to have those phones nearby that will alert you in the event we get strong or severe weather moving into the region. forecast wise temperatures again will be the in 70s. 57 is our forecast. partly cloudy, cooler and drier. the changes will be coming into play as we head through tonight and especially tomorrow. the rain chances as i mentioned are going to be going up late tonight, early tomorrow morning. 80%. that storm front gets out here probably before noon tomorrow. the skies will clear around lunchtime. and check out next week. it's going to be cool. morning low of 44 with afternoon item of 67. look at tuesday. that's our coldest day. morning low of 39 in the city. near-freezing temperatures. daytime high on tuesday only 59 up after that.

two other people involved still on the run right now. it started on north lane, ended very close by on stonybrook lane when the car crashed into a house. mary wynne live on the scene with the latest. good morning again, mary. >> good morning. this is where the crash ended. the chase landed right over here. you can see these tire marks is where this car crashed into this car. now, two suspects are on the run and a 17-year-old in the hospital after being shot. investigators say this happened around 12:00 this morning. officers tried to pull over a white charger for a traffic violation at 5100 north lane. three people were inside the car. when cops got out of the police cruiser, the driver, a 71-year-old, put the car in reverse and tried to take off. one of the officers shot at the car because the 17-year-old driver kept going and almost hit him. the car drove down the street and crashed into an empty house. detectives say the white charger

orange county. he was later arrested and in stable condition at the hospital. no one else was injured in this crash. at this point we also do not have any descriptions of the suspects. reporting live in orange county, mary wynne, fox 35 news. all right, 9:05 now. a fox 35 crime alert. kissimmee police need your help finding two dangerous men who beat an elderly woman and locked her in her bathroom. take a look at a sketch of one of them. between 5-10 and 6-feet tall. he had on a hooded red sweatshirt and black pants. there's not a sketch of the other guy because his face was covered. she woke up to find the two men in her bedroom thursday night. she thought for a moment her grandson was playing a prank on her, but she quickly realized that's not what was happening. the men demanded money and pills and kicked her before locking her up in the bathroom for about

a woman is dead after a car crash in st. cloud. rebecca lawson was in a ford taurus. investigators say they think she pulled right out in front of an f250 truck. now a crime alert out of lake county. a store worker at via port mall charged with sexual battery. the victim told police she was assaulted and held against her will by an employee at kappa dochika art store. the attack happened january 2nd. cops arrested the 34-year-old late thursday. she's charged with sexual battery and false imprisonment. they're concerned there could be more victims. >> there was anybody that had kind of an odd interaction with any particular individual we ask they come forward. >> being held in the lake county jail on $30,000 bond. at this hour we've learned

a hotel in the west african country of burkinafaso, this is after al qaeda extremists seized the hospital. we've also learned one u.s. military member is embedded with french forces on the scene. four extremists were also killed in this. altogether 23 people dead. 33 people hurt. and crews continuing their search for 12 missing marine that is disappeared after two helicopters crashed off the coast of awaho. several people on the island reported a loud explosion just as the crash happened. searchers say they have spotted a large debris field, including an empty life raf two and a half miles off the beach. a 13-year-old boy landed

accused of taking a school bus on a joyride in leesburg. they caught up with the teen about five miles away from lake county bus depot where it all started. the real bus driver parked, ducked in the building, came back out and her bus was gone. cops tracked the bus down using gps. >> particularly stealing a school bus where a lot of damage could be inflicted as a result of that, so it's very concerning. we're glad that he was taken into custody without any significant to injury so he or anyone else. >> and the bus was damaged. police estimate it at about $1,000. happening today the apopka police department pairing up with the central florida zoo hosting a pear safety program. black bears becoming a normal thing in central florida neighborhoods. a bear in apopka weighing more than 600 pounds.

for me, but i know the tourists and the snow birds love this kind of stuff and the water temperature about 67-degrees. air temperature should be about 73-degrees. here's what's going on closer to home. our temps in the 50s and 60s on average, and we'll get up into the mid-70s. once we get going here this morning, very soon we should see quickly. 75 is our forecast high for today. we look at this big picture. doesn't\\ look that bad. there's nothing around us. we have high pressure sliding in across the state of florida. i shift over to here to texas where a deepening and powerful low pressure center is developing and that's going to race across the gulf of mexico tonight and is move right over central florida early tomorrow morning. so a little better chance for some stronger storms tonight into the forecast. let me put it in motion. we go through the day today, uneventful, nothing going on.

live in orange county, mary wynne, fox 35 news. marion county deputies want you to watch out for a man that's pulling people over with a fake patrol car. we're told he pulled over a car on northeast 35th street thursday. they say the jeep has blue and red flashing lights in the front grill. it also has white, flashing lights down the side. if this jeep rather tries to pull you over, deputies say keep on driving and call 911. developing in volusia county, a judge agreed to delay louis's murder trial set to begin next week. no word when the new trial date is set for. he's accused of killing his wife and two children in 2013. prosecution plans to seek the death penalty, but they ask for the delay after the u.s. supreme court ruled that florida's death penalty procedures are

that court ruling forced florida supreme court to hear arguments of the case of a man already on death row. the convicted murderer has been on death row for more than three decades for a glades county killing. now lawyers want the state supreme court to indefinitely postpone. 935 tell me now. why would life trappers hope to catch a coyote. trappers are concerned how a chi owe that got to lancing island. people reported five sightings in this the past week alone. how the coyote got on the island in the first place is kind of a mystery. there's only one bridge in and out. >> one of our biggest concerns

"old school" is one of my favorite movies of all time and he wrote and directed that. my wife and i just love his films. it's about cultivating a really strong sense of miew -- humor, and i'm definitely a big believer in that. >> you have such a fascinating back story.
