this is happening on backfield drive, near where obt and john young parkway cross. firefighters have appearedded to knock the fire down quickly. a man is in the hospital after shot by orlando police officers. >> the police department says that the officers were forced to shoot. it happened last night on swiss coe drive in orlando, north of lee vista boulevard and east of 436. fox 35s dana jay is joining us live outside of ormc with the latest. good morning. >> i'm cold. the man was taken here last night after shooting. we still don't know who he is, but we did hear from orlando police chief last night about what led his officers to fire at that suspect. suspect.

responded to a call about a >> both officers arrived at the scene at the same time and confronted by a man with a gun. he refused orders to drop the gun. they fired upon him and he was transported to ormc. >> police aren't describing this the suspicious incident that prompted the call. they say the man emerged from one of the condos and the shots were fired on a landing in one of the buildings. >> things happen in the blink of an eye an our officers have to make that split second decision, and unfortunately fortunately our officers are not hurt, they're not taken up, and they're going home to their families tonight. >> i got a phone call fr husband around 7:30 that there were shots fired, don't come home. i said are you okay. he said i'm fine. i'm sorry. he said i'm fine and just don't come home.

being exchanged upstairs. >> we're working on learning more about the condition of that suspect. as for the officers, we're told they've each been on the force for five to ten years, they are currently on paid administrative leave as fdle investigates, that is tan dard procedure in these types of cases. reporting live in orlando, dana jay, fox 35 news. >> in lake county, deputies will be back at a home trying to piece together how someone ended up being buried in the backyard of the house of a missing man. the remains were found in the yard of that home on pennsylvania street, west of state road 44 near paisley. deputies were called out to the home after a neighbor reported he hadn't seen the homeowner in more than a month. sixty-one-year-old dennis jones owns the house. the porch light was on, he has not been seen, and his car was not in the driveway. a cadaver dog alerted them to the remains in the backyard.

an i.d. this morning. >> more than 10,000 people are expected to march in tallahassee this morning. they're urging the florida teacher union to drop a lawsuit against the voucher program. it helps low income families to afford private education. the florida's teacher union sued the state, calling it unconstitutional because it schools. king claims ending the program would harm minorities. >> updates on the victims of the tornado in manatee county. >> three of the five survivors are out of the hospital. it killed a couple inside the home, but their son, stephen wilson, jr. along with four children survived. wilson and two boys are out of the hospital this morning with just scrapes, but the two little girlses had much more serious injuries. now strangers in the community

family through this tough time. >> it was their mom and dad. >> people have been reaching out to pay for the medical bills and burial costs. they're raising money online and have gotten close to $20,000. >> relief is almost here for drivers who travel between lake and orange counties. tomorrow, the state will open up a new stretch of the parkway, it's about three miles long, linking state road 436 to the 435. the parkway is a project that has been in the works for years. it will be a 25-mile toll road when fully complete. the ultimate goal is to relief congestion on near by roads. >> in flagler county, some 1700 people are warned to boil their drinking water. >> this comes after vandals released 400,000 gallons from the water supply. the boil water notice affects the people living in the plantation bay and plantation

deputies say the water valves were turned on in several vacant lots between 3 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. on sunday, draining thousands of gallons of water. deputies begin their investigation to get to the bottom of who the vandals are. >> we're looking at a felony chim mal mischief charge because of the disruption of service. >> they said the residents should continue to boil water until further notice. >> this morning, rock 'n roll fans are remembering glenn frey. >> he pass add way on monday. ryan is here with a look back on his career f if i'm driving cross country, i want his albums with me. >> people are in shock over this. glenn frey died on monday at 67 years old, he had been suffering from a niewb of illnesses, including arthritis and pneumonia.

>> 7:13 on "good day orlando". sea world orlando making a change. they will no longer offer the beluga interaction program to guests here. >> that allows guests to put on a wetsuit and swim with the beluga whales for a fee. sea world orlando is now reviewing the program. a statement says, quote, we are always exploring new ways to enhance and evolve our complete menu of animal interaction opportunities and this review is part of that commitment. just last year, one of the parks four belugas died from an infection. sea world orlando does not say whether or not that factored into their decision. this comes following sea world san diego's decision to end its signature killer whale show at the start of the year.

county will see temperatures down to the freezing mark. the thing with the hard freeze, it's all about how low the temps goes and for how long. the duration, eight to ten hours of freeze conditions at 32 degrees or colder. three to five of those hours up in gainesville, 27 degrees or colder through the overnight, early tomorrow morning, so again, pipes, pets and plants, cover them up, bring them inside. it's one of those times here, we've got to be extra vigilant. also, scattered frost likely developing and more tucked in, wind protected rural areas, western orange county, seminole, lake, everybody on the outskirts of the concrete jungle that is downtown orlando, that concrete releases extra heat, but overall, it will be chilly area-wide tonight in through tomorrow morning. on this tuesday, small craft flags flying, seas 5-6 feet. unless you want a spinal readjustment, i suggest you stay off of the boat today.

scene of a house fire in orange county. this is happening on backfield drive, which is near obt and john young parkway. looks like it's destroyed there. firefighters knocked it down quickly. there was a lot of smoke in the air early. no word what sparked the fire or anybody was injured. >> health watch now. the wage gap between american women and men might be one reason why women have higher rates of depression and anxiety. in fact, a new study suggests women with lower incomes than men were twice as likely to have major depression. dr. mike is joining us with more on these disparities and how it would cause women to be depressed. i don't know, dr. mike, it seems like common sense, especially if you're single or a mom who is trying to raise children on her own, and you know that you're not making as much as your counter counterparts, that's depressing.

we've known, amy force decades that women suffer from depression and anxiety more than men and we've looked at all kinds of possibilities. could it be child rearing? but this new data looking at over 22,000 workers indicates that if you're doing the same job as your male counterpart and you're getting paid less, you have a dramatically increased risk of depression and anxiety, and it's not just if you're at the lower end of the economic scale, amy. these are executives as well, tn can have significant long-term health affects. >> so what do managers need to know about the study, what should she hear? >> it's a no-brainer, if someone does a job, whether you're a man or a woman, whatever, there should be no bias, no gender, no racial gap whatsoever.

the suspect was taken here after last night's shooting. we still don't know who he is, but we did hear from orlando police chief after that shooting at that condo complex last night. officers, we're told, responded to the courtney landing condo complex near orlando international airport, around 7:45, 8:00 o'clock last night. the chief said officers responded to what he's calling a suspicious incident. we didn't get many details among that. those officers were confronted by a man with a gun. when that man refused to drop that gun, we're told the officers fired. >> these things happen in the blink of an eye, and officers are have to make that split second decision. fortunately, our officers are not hurt, they're very shaken up by this incident, but they're going to go home to their families tonight. >> we're told each of those i haves has five to ten years of experience in law enforcement,

administrative leave pending the outcome of a fdle investigation, that's standard in these cases. we're working on finding out how that suspect is doing this morning. reporting live in orlando, dana jay, fox 35 35 news. >> a mom speaking out about her frightening experience after two men burst into her house and threatened her and her daughter. >> ryan has the morning rush. >> orlando police saying these two men pushed their way inside the home with weapons and demanding money. the victim asked not to be denied so nobody would recognize her. they searched her hand while holding a gun to her eleven-year-old daughter. >> trying to threaten my baby with the gun and kill my baby. i was like, no. i hovered over my baby and pushed her behind me. after that, the one in the kitchen whizzerred something, they went out of the door and left. >> now, interestingly enough, the victim saying that the men left without taking anything. police believe the suspects

the victim's children now staying at their grandmothers because they're too scared to stay in the house. right now they're searching for the suspects that did that this morning. a 72-year-old man is held on more than $100,000 bond age accused of having a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old girl. arresting william leach the third yesterday. he had been the victim's neighbor, drove to meet the girl to have relations. he's chawred with unlawful sexual activity with a minor and also traveling to meet a minor. on a brighter note, today, sea world orlando will be releasing two manatees back in the wild. they were founded orphaned in satellite beach last year. now that they're healed, they'll be released among other manatees to help them adapt into their natural environment once again. >> a father is working to pass a law that would help keep your kids safe when they get off of the bus. >> he cawnt want cameras on the

sure that drivers stop and let them exit. don mayor is fighting for that bill because his twelve-year-old daughter was hit and killed by a driver in 2010 as she got off of her school bus in deltona. cord together state department of education, as many as 10,000 cars everyday go around stopped school buses in florida. he said that would stop it from happening by catching the people would go around the buses, then ticketing those driver gz nobody has a right to drive or risk somebody else's life and that's going around the stopped school buses. >> it's a selfless, dangerous action. >> the school districts would decide whether or not to add the cameras, it would also make it reckless driving driving to go around a school bus with its arm out. >> trending this morning, some actors are calling for a boycott of the oscars due to a lack of minority nominees once again. >> spikily and jada pinkett

the texts, the parents get it so we can serve as a backup. >> you're right. sometimes the parents like it more than others because i don't know how it is at your house, sometimes my teenagers don't talk to me so i don't know always know they have a deadline societies conversations stay on point. >> are a lot of universities involved in this right now? >> yeah, we have all of the universities in florida and higher education institutions. if a student is interested in going to a school here in florida, they can text a code for that school and get school specific messages about the school. >> you want to talk about if you have a kid in senior high school, there's important dates coming up, right? >> this is an important season. this is the time when students can fill out the applications for federal student aid. that's the geat gateway to financial aid. last year, only half filled it out.
