i-4 eastbound from sand lake to downtown. after almost three years of construction, the first part of the wekiva parkway is set to open today. the section from county road 435 in orange county to state road 46 in lake county. this opens to drivers at 10:00 a.m. this morning. the work on the first three mile stretch began back in february 2013 with the construction cost of a $25.4 million. the project is expected to bring a lot of growth in the area. >> we're seeing the growth are. already. it's moving. and it'll be commercial up and down 46 >> gina: when complete, it would go around the wekiva parkway, and complete the beltway around central florida. >> john: 6:04. breaking news right now. orange county firefighters are

>> amy: ryan has the details. why it could be connected to the cold weather. >> reporter: at a home on formby. between semoran and conway. officials received a call at 2:30 this morning with smoke in the area. firefighters responded. they spotted flames coming from behind the home. it turns out that the fire was coming from a workshop. this is what the battalion chief explained at situation as. >> a wok shop built off the back of the home on fire. the structure was fully involved. the homeowners came out, and the homeowner stated that someone was in the workshop working. >> reporter: firefighters discovered the body after putting out the fire. they're now trying to figure out what sparked the fire. they said they're not ruling out heater at the time. >> it's very cold out. there's a chance that space heaters could have been in use.

the building was fully involved when we found it. everything is pretty much burned beyond recognition. >> reporter: as you heard him say, he is not sure at this point. the fire departments are warning to be very careful using a heater. be sure they're secure so they don't tip over, and be sure that they are not near anything flammable. apartment. >> amy: one victim is in critical condition. yesterday afternoon hat the stone brook apartment complex off of stonebrooke and the 417. jackie orozco has the latest. >> reporter: we're working with sanford police trying to figure out who the owner, or owners, are from the five pit bulls that live here at this apartment complex. police say ended up mauling several people, including a child.

found a woman was being mauled by the five pit bulls. she's in critical condition at last check at the hospital. sanford police had no choice but to shoot the dogs. all five dogs were killed on the scene. detectives have not released the woman's name. others were hurt and taken to the hospital. and they have nonlife threatening injuries. and neighbors are shocked. >> i believe they were visiting. i never heard any dogs. that must have been someone who came visiting and brought the dogs with them. an apartment. and another dog was caged and taken by animal control as well. we're trying to get more owners. here in sanford, fox 35 news. >> amy: in orange county an innocent bystander is recovering
