stranding travelers right here in orlando. a teenager shot overnight in orange county at an apartment complex, not far from ucf. >> a former trooper involved in a crash. how the crash ut down part of a major road overnight. >> jayme: good morning. you've made it to the weekend seven days we've tracked this thing, it's spawned into a major, i would call this a storm of historical perspectives. our world will exist with basically shower and storm activity. but strong storms, even severe weather might play out getting into the latter portion of the morning and the early afternoon. guardian is always scanning the

it never stops. recording returns. storms are heading up to the west of tampa bay and building on shore. this is moving towards us by 10, 11:00 a.m. heading through gainesville and ocala. we shift gears and then head towards the central peninsula. downtown orlando, the orlando metro, and theme parks by 1:00 to the 1:30 time frame. and this is a evolving situation. there's a lot of stuff coming in now. everything from wind speeds, the amount of rainfall we'll see, and, of course, the big chill in the wake of this as we head into your saturday. some quick timing on this.

by late morning, mid-day, lake and volusia see the main thrust of the squall line in the area. orlando, around 1:00 p.m. brevard, 1:30 to 2 this afternoon. and then clears out, and we funnel in lots of chilly temperatures with a lot of wind. the temperature will be dropping and stay down in towards sunday morning. i am looking for the possibility of freeze watches for orlando on sunday as temperatures drop way low. >> gina: roads for the most part looking good. i have a new crash at kissimmee at obt and carol street. no roadblocks or significant delay, but use just caution in the kissimmee area.

i-4, eastbound, attractions to downtown, 13 minutes. the 408 is up to speed as well. developing right now, a major snowstorm is headed no the east coast. >> john: parts of the atlantic could see as much as two feet of snow. the federal government will close down offices at noon. states of emergency have been de-schaired in five states. food and supplies disappearing from grocery and hardware stores as well. >> winter is starting a little later. we're handling as business as usual ordering merchandise. >> the blizzard is expected to bring high winds, dangerous flooding, and, of course, the white out conditions. the snowfall will last late today through sunday. a long storm too. thousands of flights canceled, including some flights here in

>> fox 35 dana jay is joining us live from oia. have you met anyone who has been stranded because their flights have been canceled? >> reporter: you know what, luanne, we have not. not so far. we met a pair of guys who are traveling wondering if they are getting to pittsburgh or not, but they seem to be leaving early enough in the day that that shouldn't be a problem. we're seeing lots and lots of ontime flights with the exception of a handful. incoming flights in raleigh, durham, in the path of the storm, and cancelations in and out of charlotte. those cancelations in and out of charlotte shouldn't come as a surprise because american airlines said that they'll be canceling all nights in and out. that's a hub for american

i saw on twitter, united, 4:00 p.m. will start to suspend flights out of dulles, that's a hub in washington, d.c. all have issued waivers. you can rebook without a penalty, for all the major airlines. and flight tracker, about 2,000 nights already canceled for today. looking ahead to tomorrow, after the storm hits, 3,000 flights exppted to be canceled for tomorrow. so you really do have a heads up on this. check your flights before you come to the airport. that way you don't get strabded. the airlines are getting a good job on social media and what not letting people know that the storm will cause some problems. >> that should be interesting to watch throughout the day. it'll change. and this weekend's blizzard is impacting sports. the washington capitals game

she vanished on january 24 in 2006. police believe she was kidnapped. they found her car near her home but no sign of her. since then, more than 1,000 tips have come in, but no strong leads. today's news conference is at 11:45, and we'll bring you any major developments. a woman convicted of running over a 12-year-old boy is expecting to hear her sentence. a jury found her guilty in december. she faces a maximum of 15 years in prison for running over thomas gregory last new year's eve as he was playing outside. she drove off and he had two broken legs. she faces prison time. stocks rallied yesterday, but will that momentum carry into today? joining us is lauren simonetti. good morning, finally some good news, huh. >> reporter: it is a happy

the main event is back in through here. we've had a couple of tornado warning pop off over the florida panhandle. a strengthened south, southeasterly air flow. we're replenishinged energy, the moisture count, for adding a bit of fuel to the fire. we're on the southern extent of this extremely powerful system. as we typically are. the farther away the lows from central florida, the less of a risk for severe weather in our neck of the woods. but the panhandle has been a different beast this morning. on top of it all, a mushroom looking canopy of extremely heavy snow in the northeast. which looks now to be washington, d.c. as the bull's-eye of this with a big, big swath of one to two foot amount snow accumulations all the way up to the new england state once this is all said and done. a developing weather situation.

we'll keep you upto date. i am not trying to scare you, just laying out the cold, hard facts. stronger storms could pepper into the area by mid-morning. the timing looks to be in the confines, the parameters of 9:00 a.m. to the noon hour. with this racing once it gets on shore to coastal brevard and racing rapidly off the eastern shores of the state. weather radar is recording light you rains, leesburg, and supportingses of sumter. and 11:20, modeling suggests that it would race through the gainesville area, the main line, the squall line ahead of a very sharp cold front. occurring for 1120. portions of sumter florida. and heading into the 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. and metro orlando. and then moving off to the eastern side of the state. from that point on, the

will occur. you will notice the winds coming up. it'll feel a little bit cool. and tonight, when the winds move in west, northwest, the cold temperatures will come in. low to mid-50s and that's it for tomorrow. i'm going 55 but i think it might be a struggle for a lot of us to get to 55, with a lot of wind. the wind chills will be an issue towards mid-day on our saturday. increasing rain chances. strong storms. we have a slight risk of seeing severe weather play out. i'll be monitoring the latest. 50s and 60s. it's much, much warmer overall. you can see now in comparison to 24 hours ago. the numbers are great. 25 degrees warmer at this time compared to ocala. that's giving a good idea of what is playing out

temperature, humidity, coming into play to give us a bout of strong weather. washington, d.c. looks to be the bull's-eye area. we have the cold in place. and we have watches and warning, and blizzard watches and warnings. it's all about the cold stuff that rushes in on the heels of low pressure as that clears the state. you can see that swath of snow there. this is a model forecast. it shows that the depth of that could achieve over a foot in many, many locations. windy weather, a high of 55, if we get there tomorrow. with the wind on top, it'll feel colder. and early cloud cover puts a damper on the start of the day. it'll be cold.

a police officer in gainesville responded to a call of kids playing basketball and being too loud in the streets >> luanne: instead of busting them, he started playing hoops with them. this is great. he played with them for about 10 minutes. he then had to go back to work. he told them to be respectful of their neighbors, but he said they could keep playing. >> john: i can see if they were yelling, but he said, it's okay, but just be respectful. officially declared dead. the marine corps had a five day search for survivors. all they were able to find were life rafts from the helicopters.

of the state out towards lake city and tallahassee, the chance of that is 20%. i'm waiting for the storm prediction center to bring us the latest on that. pockets of rain moving easterly, from 15 to 25 miles per hour. the storm motion will increase. increase. the tracking on it, this is a model forecast, by 11:30, clearing through gainesville, and getting into marion, and either side of ocala. don't focus on the dead center of the tv screen. towards the lunch hour, blasting through orlando, and by 2:00 p.m., over the brevard county coastal area, osceola county, and then moving off shore. the wind arrows are getting larger. the wind speeds will increase and then rotate and bring in a

we're freshening up rain chances as we speak. i will zoom in a little tighter. navigating radar from the weather center. showing the first cluster moving on shore. it's racing east of panama city. that's the squall line i am concerned with. the precursor out in advance of the incoming cold front that will dramatically alter temperatures going through late tonight and for the entire weekend. the chill will be on. certainly cold. look at that. a classic textbook low pressure center that has snow on the north and northwestern flank out towards the eastern edge of the circulation. severe weather playing out across the deep south and the southeast. we're included in that. don't let down your guard. hopefully just beneficial rains but we're seeing a big swath of

amounts. you can see how we reload over the eastern gulf of mexico. and quite a bit of lightning detected. i think we'll see a lot of cloud to ground lightning strikes once this reaches shore, and even some rotation in some of the cloud tops, that's another concern i've got, and damaged straight line winds, and never, ever, do you want to rule out a tornado threat. and 11:00 a 50, computer forecast showing that the main squall line will move into the peninsula, clearing gainesville, ocala, orlando metro through the lunch time hour. we surfacing shy of 2:30. the distinct, narrow swath. we saw that with the system moving through. there was a corridor of very strong winds.
