developing over the coastals carolinas. there's a slew of things going on. towards the panhandle we've seen some rotation in some of the storms. our area is outlined as the slight risk of seeing possibility of strong weather. when we talk of severe, wind gusts in excess of 58 miles per hour, could be three quarter inch hail production, extreme rain, and a lot of deadly cloud to ground lightning. and north of the area, a mushroom shaped area of snowfall. and south of that, the temperature profile is to warm to support any snowfall at this time. this may change as the back end towards st. louis, and southwest of st. louis, missouri, moves through. we could see a sleety mix near

and we are going to show you live guardian radar. clusters of moderate to heavy rainfall coming into line. the main area i am watching is the squall line a, elongated linear area of showers and storms moving through the panhandle. moving up towards atlanta now. the precursor. we'll likely see them gel up and moving through at lunch time. ocala and ad before that. and moving to the brevard area at 3:00 p.m. i'll be adjusting arrival times and refining the forecast as we go through the morning hours. it's a changing situation that certainly bears watching, especially as we go through the morning hours today. by tomorrow morning, much, much colder. lots of wind. and low mid-50s.

a live look at i-4. you see emergency vehicles on either side of the road. the traffic is moving very slowly. that crash just happened. sky fox over another accident at bennett near colonial. starting to finally clear up now. all lanes were blocked up, but everything is looking okay. and not too much back up in the area. drive time, i-4 westbound from lake mary to colonial, 17 minutes. downtown. and the 408 is up to speed >> luanne: back to the big story, a major snowstorm is heading for the east coast. >> john: parts of the mid-atlantic could get up to two feet of snow by the time it's done on sunday. states of emergency in five states and the district of columbia. schools and government offices are closing early, thousands of flights canceled, including some

fox 35's dana jay is at the airport with the latest. >> reporter: things are not looking too bad here yet. on the big board, lots of ontime flights. the raleigh durham area, that's a delay, they're right in the heart. and flights to and from charlotte. that shouldn't come as a huge surprise. american airlines announced they're canceling ought flights in and out of charlotte today because of the incoming weather. they are expected to pick up flights again as usual on saturday. united announcing around 4. they'll begin to suspend flights a dulles. that's a hub for them in washington, d.c. all of the major airlines have issued waivers for the weekend. you can rebook without a penalty to try and make your way around that storm.

29-year-old juan torres of ocoee facing dui charges. the prooper was exiting i-4 and aer to resident ran a --er torres ran a red light. a shooting at the marquee apartments on starling lane across from ucf's campus. a 19-year-old was hurt. they believe he will survive. no arrests have been announced. a maitland man has disappeared during a hiking trip in colorado. they are searching for 58-year-old ronald weber. he went hiking in the rocky mountain national park. it's unclear where he was headed but he was not prepared to spend the night. the area has been experiencing high winds and very cold temperatures since then >> luanne: hopefully, they find him soon. thank you.

update on the search for jennifer jennifer kesse. she is the orlando women woman -- orldz woman who has been missed for a decade. they believe she was kidnapped. they found her car but no sign of her. 1,000 tips have come in but no strong leads. there will be a news conference today. >> john: a jury in brmpleghts county found the woman guilty in december. she faces a maximum of 15 years in prison. she ran over thomas gregory as he was playing outside of his home on new year's eve. she left and he had go two broken legs.

for trump and -- sanders. the lead for sanders is partially built on his economic policies. voters say they trust him more than clinton when it comes to the economy. on the g.o.p. side, voters were more divided when it comes to who would handle foreign policy the best. in that category, trump led, and marco rubio is behind him at 26%. >> luanne: topping local business headlines, more staff members will get raises. a 5.1% raise, that's the same jump in pay that teachers got earlier in the year. what is old is new again on the space coast. florida today reports that the space coast tourism office is

the dc area could see as much as 2 feet of snow by the time this is all done on sunday >> luanne: let's head out to washington, d.c. this morning. >> john: she's smart. she's in the grocery store. >> luanne: good morning. is there any food left on the shelves there? >> reporter: yes, yes. i think that over the years we've just gotten better at this. we know the drill. snow crews are gearing up. thousands of snow nows -- plowed rfd to go. and states of emergency issued. we have the national guard standing by. as far as the grocery store goes, shelves are fully stocked, at least the wegmans in alexandria. the doors opened and we have had a steady stream of people buying up necessities and guilty buys and things like that.

we were hearing these horrible stories of people leaving work at 7:00 on a wednesday. getting home at 1k-6 in the morning the next day. people running out of gas. local police agencies were responding to hundred, i mean, over 200 calls of stranded vehicles, abandoned vehicles, accidents, people just couldn't get traction. they were slipping and sliding everywhere. it was a complete mess. we don't want a repeat of that. >> john: no. >> luanne: thank you so much. live for us this morning in washington, d.c. jayme, 30 inches of snow, that's going to be a nightmare up there. >> jayme: it is. and she mentioned the power outages are likely to effect everyone. the northern canopy is probably 75 miles out. noon into 1:00 p.m. we anticipate the conditions to deteriorate. the heavy band of snow through

it's stacking. and it's just crazy look across the carolinas now. cincinnati, south, southwestern suburbs of the st. louis area picking up snow now. as you go further to the east, the amount of snow gets exponentially high. 20 to 30 inches when all said and done. it's enhancing the overall canopy. you can see what's happening across south florida. storms are moving in. and west of tampa, i've been tracking a slug that's been in place for the last couple of hours. we'll see the intensity and the overall forward speed on this quickly gather some steam. we could be out of the woods before 3. and the intensity and the forward speed, two of the things that come into play here, have been seas increasing. a slight risk of severe weather.

winds at this moves in. and the main squall line. it looks like this line here, the chunk, may merge or phase or sync up with that, and that's what we have to watch out for. we have showers and storms along the florida turnpike, sumter, lake county, and ocala lighter rains establishing on the south end of town. and the forecast models show us about 11:00 a.m., gainesville, your weather will deteriorate rapidly. areas south of that, we'll see the enhanced risk for shower and thunderstorm activity during the mentioned time. 1:50 this friday afternoon, moving through orlando metro, and through the theme parks. if you are visiting from

ed theme parks should be in the clear by mid-afternoon. this kicks off in coastal brevard 2:30 or 3:00 p.m. very windy weather. low pressure and high pressure. what happens is we sync up the atmosphere and allow for very gusty winds, especially by tomorrow. we have temps tomorrow, low to mid-50s with 20 to 30 miles per hour winds on top of that. it's going to be a cold, blustery day. it loose like periods of cloud cover before the noon hour, adding to the chill effect. and 71 by tuesday. no chance of rain. the overnights begin to adjust upwards. but close to the freezing mark, if not under that, for orlando metro by sunday morning. all eyes on that and the rest of the eastern seaboard. >> gina: sky fox is over the

>> they said that william lopez was high when he crashed into a campus building with a woman in the passenger see the. january 11 it happened. a student had to jump out of the way to avoid getting hit. lopez didn't have a driver's license, and they found a gun car. >> john: that video is part of a bigger epidemic. the number of overdoses from 2003 to this year. pretty dramatic. and you can see there in 2003, few regions but jumped dramatically. we have florida cut off a little bit there but florida is mostly red. a lot of people overdosing on heroin here in the united states. the dope doctor, louis delgado is joining us this morning to discuss it. always good to have you. you saw that map, did that

of overdose deaths between 20303 and now, sky rocket? >> i would like to say yes. not really. but when you see it in visually, it puts it into perspective. >> john: why are people turning to heroin. you used to think of heroin as the junkie downtown, and no one saw. now it's the housewife next door. why are people going to heroin? >> you saw what happened to the pills. oxycodone, and as soon as the pharmaceutical problem happened, we closedded pill mills, and we should have known where do they go now that the pill mills are not open, they can't get the oxycontin, and the now the heroin is out there, and cheaper, easy, you don't have to go through the script and have an mri.

the mri, you just give them the money. >> john: and the same kind of high? >> same opiate receptor sites. a little different. basically, you have legal heroin in a pill, and then the street heroin. everyone has opiate receptors. if they have an accident, and go to get surgery or anything like that, the same receptors are tapped into. the brain isette up for the drug. that's why it's so easy to get addicted to. >> john: maybe your back was out. you got on oxycodone back in the day. and now that's gone. maybe a lot of people are saying, just stop. you can't, can you? >> no. >> john: what's it like when your body comes off? >> it feels like you are going to die. if you don't have what you have,

the biggest urge you could ever have, the biggest urge that you have to move from the situation that you are in or impending doom will happen. your brain says, go, go, go. and you have to go. no listening, no hearing, your grandmother could be in front of you, crying, saying, don't go, you will push her out of the way. >> john: most people say you wouldn't know where to find heroin >> but you say i would never try heroin, or stick that in my arm, but if you have not craved that, you don't know the type of intensity of the craving in your brain. >> john: you can get help. where can they find you if somebody has questions. maybe their kid is on this. >> you just hit 211. in orlando, hit 211. start saying i have a heroin problem. i need help.

portions of the east. rainfall now moving into the central peninsula. i want to navigate here for the weather center and bring you up-to-date. toward orlando, and the theme parks. heaviest over the eastern gulf of mexico. we have a couple of bowing segments. west and northwest of newport ritchie. getting a crescent shape. we have a threat of strong winds within the line. this area to the east and the southeast of tallahassee is the main squall line component, just before the cold front races through here. the front is definitely going to be a cold front. i know we talk about the fronts and it's cool, and the lows bottom out in the 40s, guys. we go into the solid mid-30s by saturday or sunday morning for orlando metro behind this thing. in regard to the actual thing coming through, the squall line,

our radar showing active weather sliding in to the western edge of the state, breeched over into i-75. some of the cells now exhibiting a bit of twisting and turning. we have been outlined with a slight risk of severe weather. we will take a look. this is the radio velocity scan. giving a good indicator when the red and green colors are close together, sometimes that shows a bit of rotation. that one cell, north and west of the actual center of tampa bay has been showing that, looking aggressive over the eastern gulf. at times they have a chance to weaken as they reach the shore line. i'm watching that for you now. that's filing into the west side of the state. heavy rains setting up to the north and the east. outside of leesburg, northern sumter, the villages, and heavy rain making an approach at the villages. that will mess up the tee times

and through ocala, lighter rains and then out through den ellen. and clouds thickening and the rain chances are rising sploangsly now for the orlando metro. that's the case through the noon hour. as we head towards through the lunch time hour, gainesville will see this, ocala, leesburg, the area lakes, eustis, mount dora. and everything begins a big shift. it ends up in coastal brevard county. what happened last weekend. we were in the weather center. the squall line came through. very thin and narrow corridor of damaging winds. we saw the activity exiting stage right, over the east side of the state, and encountering the atlantic ocean, and propping up the damaging wind threat. i'm watching that. modeling locking on the

much of the entire county may be under the gun as we wrap up the early to mid-afternoon time frame. behind that, as it departs, the winds will get very whippy. temperature also be down to the 40s. and highs tomorrow in the 50s. a lot of wind on our saturday. and i expect a freeze watch or a full on freeze warning for orlando. it'll be that chilly. nearly 07 along the southern edge of the space coast. bottom line, increasing rain chances. if you don't have rain now, odds are you will see that. stronger to possible isolated strong storms. 70 by 2:00 p.m. and 60s for us by 5:00 p.m. this evening. the storm racing off towards the east to the atlantic ocean. a big area of super duper chunky
