keith simpson from lake advisory group is here with the benefits of getting started early. hey, keith how are you doing? >> tom: i'm doing well. doing early you catch mistakes. >> guest: absolutely if you wait until the last minute you get into a rush. as you get in a rush you tend to make mistakes and things by filing early it gives you an opportunity to kind of review what you got and make sure you got all the numbers correct your social security number your address and that kind of stuff before you send it in. >> tom: even the smallest mistakes if you make them will cause the irs to send you a letter saying, fix it, right? >> guest: could be, yes. >> tom: next lower the risk of id theft by doing this early. >> guest: this is a perfect time of scams during this time of the year you got to remember that the irs is never going to call you up on the phone or send you a text message or contact you for facebook and ask for your personal information so the first thing you want to do is make sure you know who you're talking to and like you said they usually send you a letter in the mail. they don't call you.

know who you're talking about information. >> tom: what do you do if you think someone stole your id 4>> meteorologist:>> guest: last year the irs helped over 900,000 americans with tax fraud so they're there to help you. the second thing you want to do is you might want to file a complaint with the ftc, the federal trade commission and then obviously you want to sheriff's department because they usually have a team that deals with identity theft. >> tom: this happened to my mom and my wife and it's not fun, trust me. so you also say getting done early means you can cushion the blow if you owe. >> guest: listen like you know if you have money coming back everybody's happy. >> tom: right. >> guest: if you don't and you didn't pay enough and you know in february you owe x amount of the dollars it gives you two months to plan how to pay for it so you don't make a mistake you put it on a credit card to make you pay interest.
9:35 am
you're owed do you get it back quicker? >> guest: as americans we like to procrastinate -- >> guest: especially on our taxes if there's less tax returns to do you get your money faster and, you know, it's your money so the quicker the better. >> tom: yeah, all right. if people want to find you and get some more on this how do they do it? >> caller: they can look on the website at lake advisory.com or look at our -- >> tom: busy time for you guys. >> caller: it sure is. >> tom: thanks, it is 9:50. still to come we have champions in the house. after the break, we're introducing you to the ucf team
