>> tom: this saturday january 24th a chilly sunday morning. thanks for being here. here's the top stories we're working on this morning. first, millions of people digging out today after that blizzard dumped several feet of snow all up and down the east coast. we'll tell you how it's affecting things here in central florida today. plus, a fun night took a deadly turn. we have the latest on an overnight bar shooting that killed one woman.

no surprise there. the wild comment he made about his supporters and shooting somebody. it has a lot of people talking today. all right, everybody still talking about the weather. it is really chilly again, brooks. >> meteorologist: thankfully, we have a couple of differences today over yesterday that should make it a little more bearable. take a live look outside. first thing you notice a lot of sun. clear skies all day today. through central florida. we might see a couple of clouds but nothing like -- we had just an overcast tech for volusia and flagler county yesterday so we have a lot of sun and today less wind and that'll be good news. yesterday sometimes the winds were gusting over 25 miles an hour. yesterday afternoon was one of the coldest afternoons that we'll have ever have in central florida. out the door this morning ahead of to church, work whatever you're doing still below freezing in some spots. 36 in melbourne. go ahead and zoom on in.

effect for north and west of i-4. they'll expire at 9:00 but once again with the sun coming up temperatures will start to rise. and again, i just want to show you, yesterday morning we had wind speeds at this time, yesterday morning. 24, 25 miles an hour. now we've got a lot of wind less than 10 miles an hour even ocala checking in with calm winds so that's good news. it's going to be a crisp day but a sunny day. high temperatures will go upper 50s. it wouldn't surprise me if some folks had 60 degrees and if you're in the sun it'll feel warmer. tom? >> all right, thanks, brooks, millions of americans are preparing to dig out of snow-packed cities today after that mammoth blizzard sacked the east coast. the storm dumped several 23450e69 snow in some areas, caused flooding in others and deaths. take a look at washington, dc, this morning. the white house covered and a blanket of fresh snow and here's a look at 5 hours north in times square, new york city.

it is rare that you see that in times square. the crossroads of the earth as they call it. and officials say the 26.8 inches of snow that fell in new york city central park is the second most recorded since 1869. the snowfall shut down stores, left some drivers who did not adhere to the travel ban stuck on the roads. new york governor andrew cuomo even got in on the action. he helped a driver who was caught on the storm in long island. this happened just after new york city roads were closed to traffic at 2:30 in the afternoon. people said the blizzard was like something straight out of a movie. >> like my friend says watching the day after tomorrow but in reality now, i know, everything is closed, everything is all icy icy. >> tom: flooding plagued other areas like new jersey. many streets under water, power knocked out. and people reported seeing docks on the road and a lot of flooding in stores.

felt right here in florida. meteorologists confirmed there were snow flurries in north florida early saturday. the university of florida weather center said the flooding hit surrounding areas as temperatures briefly dipped below freezing. another local effect long waits at the airport. thousands of flights affected by the blizzard around the nation. and that's leaving travelers in florida waiting a lot longer than they expected to get home. that's because of all the delays and cancellations. airport officials recommend directly to check flight information before you drive to the airport. and keep it right here on "good day orlando" for the very latest on the blizzard. you can download our app if you want to as well by going to the app store for your phone. and we are following breaking news right now out of polk county. one person is dead two people being treated at a fire at an independent living facility.

in lakeland. not clear yet how the fire started but we do have a crew on the way to the scene and we'll bring you the very latest details as they come into us. also new this morning a woman is dead after someone shot her at a seminole county bar. now, the search is on for the man who pulled the trigger. it happened at a place called cool breeze number 2 it's on sanford's midway community. "fox 35" jackie orozco has the latest from the scene. >> reporter: deputies are saying they know his name but they are working on a warrant to move in on their man. this happened right here at this bar called cool breeze. now, according to seminole county sheriff's office they say a deputy was conducting area patrol here and it was just before midnight. the seminole county sheriff's office says that deputy heard gunshots inside the bar and saw

the shooting took place but we do know a woman was shot and killed inside the bar. deputies say a private party was being held inside at that bar at the time of the shooting. now, police say a family member of the victim was here last night and fainted. she was treated inside the rescue truck. now, detectives say they will be the suspect may be in winter springs. investigators are following up on several leads and once there's an arrest we'll let you know. reporting live in sanford, jackie orozco, "fox 35 news." >> tom: also developing this morning two people are dead after a kissimmee mobile home burned. and investigators do call it suspicious. it happened yesterday morning around 6:00 am in the siesta laggo mobile home park. investigators got there and found a man dead and a woman who was found was also found died at the hospital. neighbors desperately tried to help. >> every time we banged and helped me and my fiance kept

and nobody answered us, nobody. man, i was freaking out i had my phone, my cell phone i had 911 on the phone. >> tom: bernard thought he heard like gunshots but investigators say they have not confirmed any shots fired. a man accused of driving off wa-florida highway patrol trooper hanging off his car is expected to make his first appearance in the case this morning. cops arrested marcus dallas and his passenger crystal cash yesterday. state troopers say this happened around 11:30 friday night when a trooper pulled over a car at street. of the car. when the trooper tried to take the keys out of the ignition, investigators say he took off with the trooper's arm is in the car. the trooper fell off the car, dallas faces several charges. today marks 10 years since orlando woman jennifer kesse disappeared.

go to the "fox 35" wofl facebook page. cool stuff. you decide 2016, now, donald trump las vegas eyebrows again with a comment he made about the loyalty of his supporters. it came while he talked to supporters in sioux city, iowa. republican presidential candidates says his supporters are so devoted they would stay with him even if he shot somebody. take a listen. >> the people, my people are so smart and you know what else they see about the people, the pogs they say i have the most loyal people did i ever see that where i could stand in the middle of fifth avenue and i wouldn't lose any supporters. >> tom: trump made those comments at a college yesterday. in one tweet he said ted cruz poll numbers are down. he was born in canada and was until recently a canadian citizen.

he also blasted fellow gop governor jeb bush. he tweeted just watch jeb's ad where he desperate. i needed mobile home to help, jeb, mom can't help you with isis, putinen or the chinese and in one he posted with this picture. it shows the white house with trump's name on the front. while trump is fantasizing about being the future president a former new york mayor might take on the white house. media reports say michael bloomberg is reconsidering a run for the white house. he said run as a independent. his advisors say the billionaire is annoyed that donald trump is dominating the republican race plus he's concerned about the way hillary clinton and bernie sanders' campaigns have been going. the 73-year-old says he would spend at least one billion dollars with a b on the race if he jumps.

alaska shaken out of bed very early by a major earthquake. the u.s. geological survey says the 7.1 magnitude tumbler hit near cook inland, which is 160 miles south of anchorage. so far in other words of any injuries or any damage. and the national weather service says no tsunami threat to be the cause i felt. 3 men are on the run after a southern california jail break friday. officials say they cut through half-inch steel bars, got on the roof and then rappelled down the side using a makeshift rope. one was in on a murder charge. another was there on an attempted murder charge. the third was in for a kidnapping charge. no one is sure yet if they had any kind of outside hope all 3 escapers are considered to be extremely dangerous. it looks like the u.s. is going to get its hands on el chapo after all. mexico's president says he wants to send the infamous drug lord to the states as soon as possible. i bet he does. world leaders are egg meeting in

economics but mexican president but the mexican president took time to talk about el chapo. he said the process of getting him to america has begun. el chapo's attorneys say they are trying to block extradition. and thai health officials claim they have a second patient with the mrerh virus. his family is quarantined until they are cleared. the first person dying recognized with the virus was tweeted and then he was released a few weeks later and we have knees about the zika virus too. el salvadoran officials want women to delay any pregnancy plans for up to 24 years. you can contract that virus from a mesquite bite. direct examination say it's harmless to most people but it can cause brain damage to unborn damage if an infected bug bites a pregnant woman. the first case was reported months ago but now there are

as of right now there is not a vaccine for zika virus. 16 minutes ar-8:00 and notice down in the left corner of your screen, 35 degrees today. i think i was in the upper 40s yesterday this time, right? >> meteorologist: yeah but the big difference we had a lot of clouds yesterday with the cold air coming in this morning, clear skies and that's why with less wind we're seeing temperatures down near the freezing mark. we had freeze warnings all last night for most of central florida. they were just lifted for much of central florida, still have freeze warnings in effect for flagler for marion and alachua counties but wind chill advisories for the rest of central florida and those will be lifted pretty soon because the sun will come up. we have less wind today. it's going to be a really nice sunday compared to yesterday. yesterday was pretty chilly. outside the door wind chills, it is chilly don't get that wrong but once the sun really gets high in the sky, we'll start to warm up dramatically. weather headlines today will

it will be a thing of the pass with the sun getting a little bit higher. look at the chilly air just to the north. 17 wind chill atlanta. 18 in charlotte. it will be a cold game this evening. 6:00 you know what i'm talking about. panthers and the cardinals. here we go. high pressure in control today. now, overnight tonight we start to get a little more moisture and that's why we could see some widespread frost across central florida and then i do want to show you what's coming mid to late week. a couple of systems coming out of the gulf of mexico. forecast shows the first one on wednesday evening we could see another one coming on thursday. so it looks like two systems coming out of the gulf that could give us a lot of rain. let's go ahead and talk about today. no rain in the forecast. sunny, crisp, less wind. 58 degrees the high. temperatures are measured in the shade. so if you're in the sun today, tons of sun, less wind. it'll be warmer than 58. overnight tonight, cold again with widespread frost. look for temperatures back down

tourists that are in town, but, hey, you're still in florida on a sunny day. parents could some day choose some public schools their children attend even creation district lines -- across district lines. through the state house that would led florida kids go to schools across both district and county lines. some lawmakers worry it would lead to more overcrowding, though, as parents move their schools. others were there would be an influx of kids moving across county lines for athletics. >> "fox 35" luanne sorrell talked about it with the "orlando sentinel". >> reporter: joining me this morning is leslie postal from the "orlando sentinel" to talk more about it. good morning, leslie thank you so much for being with us. let's start with how this bill would affect students. >> guest: well, there's actually several bills so it's sort of depends which one would pass but in general they're talking about really wide open choice. so as a parent you could -- you

county you could pick a school anywhere else in the state, really, if you could -- if that school had room and if you could get your child there. >> reporter: well, some people are concerned that this bill -- or one of the bills at least would take money away from struggling schools. what is your response to that? >> guest: well, it's really hard to say but certainly some school board members are worried that just unfettered choice would lead to a lot of problems. they point out that some districts like a lot of those in central florida have their own, you know, special sales tax for schools and they -- they kind of wonder is it fair to take students from other counties and they're not paying for those and they would get the extra advantage of money our parents here are paying. there's lots of concerns and there's lots of americans saying parents know school for kids and there's room for the school they should be able to get their child into that school. >> reporter: what about student athletes would they be able to leave the school they're in and just go to any school of their choice?

be hard to know how it's all going to play out but, yes, they're certainly looking at some of easing some of those restrictions now. students who transfer can only join a team if nothing has started, if practice hasn't started. some of the proposals would let them even join midseason it's halfway through the baseball season but here i am, i want to play. there's a lot of concern about that that, you know, it would allow parents to cherry-pick schools and everybody to go to one particular high school rather than maybe having more even programs throughout a district so, yes, all the proposals have their fans but they also have a lot of folks who are worried about them. >> reporter: understandably so, so how likely are these bills going to pass. what's going on up in tallahassee right now. >> guest: there's 3 our offshore 5 of them some of them overlapping. it's hard to say this early in the session but certainly some of them have the backing of very key lawmakers, some of them were pushed last year and just didn't go through, um, when -- when the

kids. the weather certainly looks gorgeous out there but it's more than central florida cold today. >> meteorologist: yeah, i mean, we had freeze warnings in effect for much of central florida and a lot of them have expired but you could easily see -- just a completely different day than yesterday and that's good news. even though we're starting off cooler we have clear skies and less winds so we'll see a lot of sun today and the wind chills as we go through the afternoon will be negligible. much cooler 9, 10, 15 degrees right now than this time yesterday due to the clear skies and light winds across central florida. temperatures -- for the most part we're in the 30s, you know, a little cooler. alachua county, marion county but we factor in the light breezes and we're still dealing with wind chills in the upper 20s so don't fool it. it's going to be a chilly start to the day. it's going to be a crisp day but the winds nowhere close to yesterday. north winds coming in at 8 miles an hour at 2:00. high temperature about 58 degrees.

deputies say he was walking on oakridge road near saddler elementary. a car rolled up and someone inside started talking. the guy turned around to look and that's when someone shot him. his injuries not considered life-threatening. no word what kind of car the shooter was driving. 1 person is dead after crashing into a watery ditch in volusia county. deputies say the crash happened early yesterday morning near state road 44 and previt avenue in deland. but no one spotted the c ar until about 1:00 in the afternoon. xxxzzzz`z{{88xx we're told >>00:x nicholas webb crashed his car into the pond but no word what caused the crash. volusia dallas county deputies are searching for a an inmate who took off from a work release program also his girlfriend who they say helped him leave that area, not to meng involved in this whole thing is a 3-year-old child. gary bullock, jr. refused to return to tomoka institution it

him up from work. the two took off from a 3-year-old boy and they accuse quigley stealing a blake checks, cash and a gun before he left. bullock was sentenced for robbery, attempted robbery and grand theft. if you see any of them call 911. friends and family members still searching for a missing maitland man. 23-year-old john noss disappeared last saturday, that's him right here. he has asperger's syndrome. people passed out fliers close to where he disappeared. family and friends say he's a great guy and we just want to know he's safe. >> just a friendly guy, you know, walking down the street, waves to people. you know, he's -- he always has a smile on his face. a happy kid. >> tom: police do not have any leads. if you have any information call police. 8:36.

sunday morning, it's crisp, tom was talking about it. it's cold, it's very cold by central florida standards. the freeze warnings have been lifted for a lot of places, volusia, orange, seminole, lake but we still have hard freeze warnings in effect for 9:00 for alachua and marion counties we have wind chill advisories in effect just through the morning hours because even with the light winds we have outside, wind chills are in the 20s, orlando, 29 is what it feels like in brevard county so it's a chilly start but we're going to warm up nicely. i think you're going to like the forecast to be about 660s and we'll get there and then overnight tonight -- so another 12 to 18 hours from now, more freezes, well north and west of the i-4 corridor and i think we could see widespread frost across the area. gradual warming. we get to the 70s pretty doggone quickly. wednesday/thursday we could see a couple of systems bringing soggy weather.

snow some areas and caused flooding in others now being blamed for at least 18 deaths. this is what it looks like this morning in washington, dc. that's the white house, of course, covered in a blanket of snow. a little different than yesterday when we could hardly see the white house | through the blowing | snow. and here's a look what it's like in new york city right now. it's not often | that you see || times square, the crossroads of the earth so deserted but you will are under a lot of snow as well. as a matter of fact, 26.8 inches of snow fell in central park. that is the second most recorded since 1869. the snow shut down stores, left a lot of drivers who did not pay attention to the travel ban stuck on the roads. new york governor andrew cuomo helped out one. he helped a driver who was caught on the storm in long island. it happened after new york city roads closed to traffic at 2:30 pm. people said the blizzard was like something straight out of a movie. >> like my friend here said it's

investigators say the man got out of the car when the trooper tried to take the keys out of the ignition, investigators say dallas hopped back in and drove off while the trooper's arm was still in the car. the trooper fell to the ground but is okay. dallas faces several charges now. today marks 10 years since orlando woman jennifer kesse just vanished. the orlando police department released an age-progressed photo of kesse. the photo on the look how she looked when she vanished 10 years ago on the right what she might look like now. jennifer kesse vanished january 24th, 2006. cops think she was on her way to work they found her car at an parth not far from the mall of millennia. this video one of the only clues they've had. they've never been able to identify that man. we talked to jennifer's dad this week and he has a message for her daughter. >> jennifer, we love you, you know that. our love is unconditional for

tom? >> tom: all right, brooks, we'll see you then. 9:32. we are following breaking news in polk county this morning. 1 person dead, 2 others being treated at an independent living facility. it's on bella street in lakeland. "fox 35" jackie orozco is live at the scene with the latest, good morning, jackie. >> reporter: good morning, tom. i was able to speak with the lake county chief. he told me it was all hands on @ deck. more than 30 fritters had to deal with this blaze. you can see on the 4th floor here all the smoke and fire damage. he said that fourth floor is completely destroyed and he said that the most challenging part was getting -- evacuating the 40-plus residents who live here. they were either all elderly or disabled. now, the lakeland fire department said that they received an automatic fire alarm around 430 dlauk this morning from the bella vista manner

it's a 5-story independent living facility. now, when firefighters arrived they say the building | had heavy smoke and fire coming out from the 4th floor window. you can see there lakeland police helped firefighters evacuate the residents. now, 4 lakeland fire engines responded. several rescue crews and the polk county fire rescue also brought 4 medic units and he told me another challenging thing is that this building is not up to code so they didn't have sprinklers and the elevators are not in service when there's a massive fire like this so there were a total of 48 rooms but a total of 41 people inside during the time of the fire. now, as firefighters search for any victims on the 4th floor they did discover a deceased person and 3 others were treated for smoke inhalation. now, all residents who were evacuated are being sheltered in an adjoining building. the identity of that @ victim has x` released pending notification of next and the

cause of the fire remains under investigation. live in lake county, jack yeah, "fox 35 news." >> tom: and new this morning, a woman is dead after someone shot her at a seminole county bar. now, the search is on for the man who pulled the trigger. this happened at a place called cool breeze bar number 2. it's on sipes avenue in sanford's midway community. a deputy was on area patrol there when he heard a gunshot coming from inside that bar. when he went inside there was a private party going on and a woman was on the floor shot. she died on the scene and family members there were devastated. officials are not releasing her identity or the shooter's identity right now. a teenager is recovering this morning after somebody shot him while he walked down an orange county street. deputies say the man was walking on oakridge road near saddler elementary. a car rolled up and somebody inside started talking. the victim turned to look and that's when someone shot him. his injuries not considered life-threatening. no word what kind of car the z`zzzz `zx8>` shooter ``p0` was :x:{:pppp:p:::ppp:p in.

corridor but the big issue will be frost overnight tonight for a lot of central florida. we'll see gradual warming all the way through tuesday. as a matter of fact we get back in the 70s tomorrow. and a soggy system -- maybe even two systems -- they arrive mid to late week with some wet weather. outside looking live from our visit orlando towercam with a hyatt regency orlando. 28 degrees officially at the orlando international airport. north-northwest winds coming in at 11:00. yesterday morning we had winds at this time gusting over 25 miles an hour. this morning, much less. generally winds between 5 to 10 miles an hour. maybe 1 degree -- one miles per hour faster than that. temperatures it's cold. no two-ways about it. temperatures are in the 30s. factor in the wind, wind chills this morning are still in the 20s to low 30s so it's crisp outside but as we get the higher sun angle it will be a nice day. some of the colder air continues

yesterday afternoon will be much colder than this afternoon is for us. overnight tonight starting to see a little moisture invecting in. we could easily see widespread frost conditions tomorrow morning and then all eyes towards the mid to late weak systems that come out of the gulf of mexico. our computer forecast model shows this one right here coming in late wednesday and another one more than likely poised to come in on thursday so we'll keep an eye on the forecast for you. sunny, crisp conditions today. high temperatures upper 50s close to 60 and it will feel nice in the sun, i promise you. overnight tonight, widespread frost will be an issue. temperatures for the most part stay above freezing and the accuweather 7-day forecast, 58 today and then back into the 70s tomorrow after a chilly start. 71 degrees tomorrow. we stay in the 70s through mid to late week with another couple of rain systems coming in wednesday and thursday. it's weather baby time and who do we have this morning?
