board will cast their vote later on tonight. >> reporter: good morning, john, good morning, amy. as you said the volucia county school board is talking about -- has been talking about school uniforms for months. for months there have been some protests although i talked to a that. earlier this morning, let's show you the video that we shot. there were a group of parents, teachers, community members out here, protesting not necessarily the school uniform, but that's among the things they're unhappy about here in volucia county. these folks gathered, and they don't think that school uniforms should be very high priority for the school board. in fact they're frustrated about a number of issues the school board has been focusing on. they're doing what they're calling walk ins all this week, every day before school, to get a little bit of attention. they're urging the school board
8:05 am
less -- focus on less testing, so alleviating the amount of testing in volucia county schools. they're asking the school district to focus more on cleaner classrooms and on sending more financial resources to the schools, as well. as we said the protestors are scheduled all week long. i was told they don't necessarily coincide with this school uniform vote, but that is one of the issues that the group is concerned about. and the vote on those school uniforms will be later this evening in volucia county. >> amy: thank you. developing this morning all lanes of interstate 4 back open after a deadly crash set down part of the highway. >> john: the crash happened just after 10:30 last night on i-4 eastbound, just across the river there. troopers tell us the crash started on the eastbound side after a mustang rear ended a pick up. that truck smashed through a guardrail and ended up in the westbound lanes.
8:06 am
in the pick up. a third person had a to be airlifted to ormc. they're in critical condition. the driver of the other car was not injured. you decide 2016 the democratic presidential candidates getting together for one final time before the iowa caucuses. a look at that and our political headlines. >> reporter: interesting night last night. hillary clinton took tough questions including a yucker voter who said some of her friends didn't think clinton was trustworthy. she is leading sanders nationally 52-38. this is a new cnn/orc poll. that 14-point lead about half of what it was just two months ago. the economy is a big issue last night for the candidates who took questions separately on stage. here is clinton's answer to income inequality. >> today in knoxville in my town hall i called on a man he said we never had it so good except when your husband was president.
8:07 am
>> reporter: bernie sanders also had a very spirited exchange with moderators about his socialist leaning. >> with democratic social is im means to me is that economic rights, the right to economic security, is -- should exist in the united states of america. >> reporter: now, sanders defended his tax increases for social programs. he promised he would raise taxes. the democrats do not have any more debates scheduled before the iowa cause you cans which take place monday. that will be thursday night on fox news channel. a lot of people looking forward to that. marco rubio opening a new line of attack on ted cruz. he slammed him for representing a chinese company as a private attorney. the company hired cruz to appeal a $20 million judgment for stealing intellectual property from a florida entrepreneur.
8:08 am
of ted cruz saying one thing and doing something different. ted cruz goes around the country talking about how tough he's going to be on china but china is stealing american secrets. >> there were millions of dollars spent when i ran for senate. it's a bogus a can that. it didn't work then and i would suggest if other candidates are going that direction, that they're very frustrated by the dynamic that is playing out on the ground speaking of attacks, donald trump stepping up his, as well, he said it's time with that fact that cruz is born in canada, was a citizen of canada, he said he needs to settle that or get out of the race. it was not all bad for ted cruz. rick perry endorsed ted cruz. perry dropped out of the race last year. >> amy: thank you. still ahead, fasting to lose weight has long been considered a no no. >> john: new research could be changing that mindset.

8:11 am
>> amy: a lot of people are trying to lose weight in the new year and a lot of diets cut calories, but when it comes to fasting health experts say you shouldn't. new research says maybe it's not as bad as we first thought. we're always conflicted. great to see you. >> thank you. >> amy: seems like for every study that comes out there is a study that says the exact opposite and we're so confused we don't know what to do. so let's talk fast, because on the surface it doesn't sound like it would be good for us. >> right. >> amy: okay. why is that? >> well, it's the plan where you some days of the week not eating at all, so it's designed for weight loss. there is different types of fasting plans out there. so some of them you're eating every other day, and those other days you're fasting. some of them where you eat normally two days of the week,
8:12 am
other two you're only eating four or 500 calories, and then there is somewhere you limit the time frame, the window you're eating so you only eat during noon and 8:00 p.m. and the rest of the time you fast. >> amy: what are your thoughts on this? good idea? bad idea? >> i think it can work for some people, actually. losing weight is the goal. we know it does work. studies show it does work for some people. and it's really similar, the results are similar to people following a regular type of diet. and there are some studies showing actually you lose a little bit more fat doing that type of a plan, but i think it can be hard to stick with. >> amy: okaywe talk about diets and they say it's not about a diet, it's about making lifestyle changes. it's about the long-term sustainability, isn't it? >> yes. >> amy: do you see this as long term? >> there's not been studies showing the long-term effects, so we don't know yet. i think when you're doing these types of things and trying to restrict your eating, trying to
8:13 am
difficult. losing weight hunger is a big challenge. and when you're trying to not eat, it can really be difficult. >> amy: it backfires, right? because you're like i starved myself yesterday so today i can gouge myself. you feel like you deserve a reward. >> right. and for some people when you don't eat it actually can lower your appetite, because your metabolism slows down, so you don't get all the hunger signals. for other people it definitely leads to the overseating, and then you're eating way too many calories on the day where you can eat and totally blow it. >> amy: okay. >> and works for some, a small number of people it can work for but not everybody. >> amy: you should talk to your doctor before you do it? >> exactly. for certain people it's not a good plan, because you could have low blood >> amy: and that can cause a lot of problems. good info. always a pleasure.
8:14 am
>> jayme: here we go, downtown orlando, featuring a blend of sun and clouds, but the clouds now looming rather thick and large as we go through the day. mostly cloudy skies and only a rain chance around the coastal areas of brevard county. i put it at 10%, to account for veering and shifting winds out of the more favorable rain direction out of the east-southeast. we bring in moisture from this direction, but a lot of moisture late tonight from the westerly direction overspreading the entire sunshine state. let's break down numbers. 50s and couple pockets of upper 40s. that would be in deland, just trying to hang on. we'll nix that late tonight. everyone trends warmer overnight tonight. in fact, by 8:00 only to the mid and upper 60s. clouds begin to increase, and that's general theme of what's on tap for today. isolated rain chances, bigger news is back to the 70s we go and what a time it's going to be. a nice day temperature wise. just wish we had a little more sunshine to talk about as we
8:15 am
you can see why we are not basking in bright central florida sunshine because of all of this mess. the front is through here, and low pressure through here. very much like the last two disturbances that came through here. the last weekend, the weekend before that, brought the showers, storms, tornadoes to the state. this system is a little different because the modeling now insisting on taking the main area of low pressure that is going to develop along the boundary, keeping it off to the south of orlando. this could mean a few different things, one of which would reduce the rain chance, but as of right now we'll call it a sharp rise in rain chances, at least for the next two days. if anything changes we'll be first to tell you about it. so it's critical and crucial you keep it on your broadcast and visit us online on twitter and facebook. modeling shows us what's going to happen. watch this on set of rain, looks pretty ominous. look at that. tremendous rain taking shape south of orlando. there goes the low.
8:16 am

8:22 am
i got mom here. how are you doing, samantha? >> i'm great. >> reporter: and your kids are adorable, casper and cocoa. i got that right? >> yes. >> reporter: you bring casper and cocoa in why? >> because i was looking for a natural remedy instead of living in the chemical world we live in. my son's coughing, i'm an australian girl living by the ocean and getting away from australia and finding myself in central florida. i needed something that would actually help with those issues. and i guess when i was growing up, living by the ocean, that was the natural fix for me. so i'm very lucky that i'm just down the road and something like this is available to my family. results? benefits? >> incredibly so. my daughter now is no longer on a nebulizer on a daily basis. she is on it maybe once a month.
8:23 am
>> i try and come once, to three times a week, three times being perfect amount for her. >> reporter: thank you very much. robin you mentioned to me earlier you need to come about six times to see any kind of results. >> we encourage our clients to come anywhere between two to three times a week, and that just allows them to see how the benefits are going to work for them. >> reporter: what's the website? >> that is salt scene.com. >> reporter: you're open how often? >> monday through saturday, and the hours vary from -- >> reporter: make reservation? what's it going to cost to take my kids in there? >> the new client special is just $25, and then we do offer packages and a monthly membership. >> reporter: very good. i tell you what, i had a runny nose before starting the live shop, it's dried up. i'm not kidding.

cottages and about 500 square feet each. good to see you, commissioner. appreciate you being here. >> thank you, it's great to be here. >> john: today's discussion, explain what is going to go on today. >> actually, the discussion today is generally to talk about tiny homes, which has been a trend going around the country. we have -- you have residents that are looking for more affordable housing, no mortgage, low maintenance. and generally zoning does not provide for tiny homes. we're going to have a discussion, look at this type of housing, whether or not it fits in orange county, and now to adapt it to orange county regulations. >> john: who would pay for these? would it be taxpayers? >> generally what we're talking about would be housing where it's not necessarily for homeless, it's just a product itself. it would be paid for by the homeowners. >> john: okay. this particular community, what response have you been getting from people? we have seen the tiny apartments
8:35 am
we're going this direction. >> there seems to be a lot of excitement or interest by some to have a more cave carefree lifestyle, more affordable to live in a home where they can up and go. some tiny homes are on platforms where they can move them. as far as biflo that is a product that has been brought to the county staff, looked at it. our regulations don't provide for that type of product in rural areas. we're thinking tiny homes are more appropriate in urban areas. so that's the discussion we'll be having today. >> john: all right. interesting discussion. good to see you. appreciate you making time for us today. >> thank you. appreciate you having me. >> john: let's check in with jayme king, see what is going on weather wise. >> jayme: 8:43 is the current time. this is a live look at downtown orlando. and it is looking good. glassy lake eola, hardly any wind this morning.
