to be this weekend. >> amy: it's chilly, 52 degrees. that's -- that's florida cold. >> jayme: highs go back to the upper 70s by sunday, and we're up to about 80 come monday. florida cold here today, gone tomorrow. sometimes stays longer than we would like it to, but right now looks like in the wake of the front we have clouds and all that pesky rainfall the last couple days, bringing back sun and fun today and cool start, no doubt about it. daytona beach, at the speedway in the upper 40s. that would explain why he is the
8:01 am
45 at ocala, kissimmee at 50. what might the day ahead hold? sunshine returning, looking good. 66 by 2:00. i think by about 8:00 down into the 50s in most locations during that time, especially north central florida where we could see scattered frost. and first thing tomorrow morning. orlando will be frost free. we'll fall into the 40s tonight and you can see the clearing process, as well underway started very late last night. the end result again improved weather for you. as we look at the weekend there is the 70s potching up, little extra clouds, winds offer the atlantic. outside of that no big rain chance because of that. just warmer times ahead, and a slimmer rain out there wednesday, thursday time frame, 30% at this time, scattered showers maybe a couple isolated storms. that's your forcat. let's talk live drive traffic. got your drive times for you. there has been a bunch of wrecks out there, but overall everything as far as i-4 is
8:02 am
such, everything is pretty much been on the interior roadways versus the freeways. typical volume loading at 8:02 on friday. this is what you get. in the yellow now, and drive times typically under 30 minutes. 417, the toll road downtown, westbound 408, 13 minutes of travel time. >> john: 8:02. with. fire crews opening up what is an arson investigation after volucia county home goes up in flames. >> amy: just down the street deputies found a body out in the middle of the road. it happened just before midnight on river drive in ormond beach. jackie is joining us live on the scene with the latest on what may have happened there, just an awful story. >> reporter: good morning, amy. we found out the volucia county sheriff's office said that it appears that man killed himself, that he actually walked out of this burning home that you see
8:03 am
right there. it was right before midnight when a neighbor reported the fire from this house on river drive in ormond beach. when the call came in about the fire they saw a man walk out from the burning house. a short time later heard a gunshot then found him dead in the middle of the street. deputies say it appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. it took firefighters 20 minutes to get everything under control. let's hear why it was so difficult to get the fire out. >> we had a delay in our response, an incident down the street. that's under investigation by volucia county sheriff's office homicide team. we had to deter units, the second engine had to actually turn around and, you know, come from a different direction because the road was blocked by the incident. it was a delay in getting a

unit. >> reporter: back out here live, short time earlier we saw family members out here. they didn't want to speak with us on camera. obviously still heartbroken about the situation, but again volucia county sheriff deputies were telling me that it was a self-inflicted gunshot wound, that the man who lived here had just walked away when the house was on fire. for now reporting live in volucia county, jackie orozco, fox 35 news. >> john: thanks. tough story for sure. developing in orange county the search is on for two people after a man is shot in his home. this happened last night at 48th and haines circle road. the shooter walked up to a home, pulled a gun on jose gonzalez and shot him in the shoulder. the suspect took off running into the vehicle of a get away driver. deputies say this apparently stemmed from an earlier dispute. we can tell you the victim was taken to the hospital. what were described as nonlife-threatening injuries. we have a health alert. the zika virus, it is spreading. the cdc is saying it is in 23 countries and growing. >> amy: the infection is linked
8:05 am
right now it is hitting brazil if hardest. other countries in south and central america and the caribbean are being impacted. the world health organization estimates three to 4 million people in the americas could be exposed to that virus over the next year. already 31 cases of zika infections have been reported here in the u.s. for people who have traveled to those affected areas and come back three of those cases are in the date of florida. one of the things i thought was interesting is that you can't pass it on to someone else. right? the only way you can pass it on is if a mosquito bit you and bit someone else. that is good. you decide 2016 the republican presidential hopefuls took the stage in des moines for the final debate before the iowa caucus. >> john: everyone except the frontrunner donald trump who was not there but is still in the headlines. >> reporter: good morning to you both. trump skipped that debate over a disagreement with fox news and debate host megyn kelly but trump tweeted out this graphic to show how popular he still is.
8:06 am
pretty interesting. google trends says more people were talking about trump at the time of the debates than any other candidate across town at that debate. his absence left room for his rivals. last night florida senator marco rubio defended his stance on immigration. take a listen. >> number one, we're going to keep isis out of america. we don't know who you are or why you're coming you will not get into the united states. we are going to enforce our immigration laws. i am the son and grandson of immigrants and i know that securing our borders is not anti-immigrant and we will do it. >> reporter: and the other florida candidate former governor jeb bush spoke about the establishment label people are giving him. here is what he had to say. >> this election is not about our pedigree it's an election about people that are really hurting. we need a leader that will fix things and have a proven record to do it and need someone who will take on hillary clinton in november.
8:07 am
going on, trump held his rally just three miles down the road. his event was sold out, and he says it raised about $6 million for wounded veterans. the democrats are also trying to drum up support ahead of the iowa caucuses. hillary clinton held a town hall in newton, iowa yesterday. she went after the gop candidates and also vowed to be tough on wall street. and bernie sanders is now denying claims by clinton supporters who say he is recruiting college students from other states to break the law and caucus in iowa. be sure to stay with fox 35 for the latest on you decide 2016. the iowa caucuses are coming up on monday, and we will have live coverage from the hockey state. amy, ryan, back to you. >> john: pretty fascinating. they had bill clinton live, and the trump debate all going on at the same time. >> amy: that's a lot. coming up, be cheap without looking cheap. >> john: how to cut costs when

8:11 am
>> john: this is going to hit home for a lot of people, blowing your budget for the sake of appearances is not worth it. you might feel pressured to keep up with the joneses. there are plenty of ways to spend less without making too many sacrifices or looking cheap. how we can be cheap without looking cheap. >> good to see you. >> john: how do you create habits that cut costs behind the scenes? >> eating out is a big one. that is something we all do. and you know, you can eat a lot healthier, cook at home, try to cut back on that. that will save you a few hundred dollars a month. going to the gym, how many times do you buy a gym membership and go once or twice and you're like
8:12 am
instead of doing that, go outside, go for a walk, go running, get weights, work out at home. and no one will know the difference that you're not going to the gym. >> john: and they won't know. you mentioned going out to dinner. so many of us go out with friends, you split the bill which i've never liked because i know what i spend, and i'm responsible for that. how do you handle that? >> here is what i do. and it depends on the friends and depends on the number of people. if it's you and another couple and you typically are very similar in your tastes, it's okay to split it but typically that's not the case. what i suggest is tell the waitress when you order say give me a separate bill for my spouse and myself. there's nothing wrong with that, and that's a lot more common than you think nowadays. >> john: better to do that than be in that awkward situation. >> the bill comes and there is let's say three couples and it's $700 and you're like oh, my goodness, i did not plan to spend $250 this evening at stake and shake.
8:13 am
the other thing is the art of entertaining at home really needs to come back in the forefront. i don't know if you entertain at home. >> john: we do sometimes. >> i love to entertain at home. you're going to get a much better seat. the lighting is great, the service is awesome, the food is better. home. that art i think is lost, and i that. >> john: people want to get out and stay at home. >> everyone brings a dish, couple bottles of wine, hang out. >> john: and if you go to another person's home you're still doing something. >> you can cut back on your lattes, you can -- if you add up the lattes, the gym membership, going to the movies several times a month, that can get costly. you can get memberships at all of the different amazon, et cetera, netflix, and you'll save a fortune. and you're going to actually -- i think it's cozier to hang out at home and popcorn, you have a blank it versus hitting the movies every weekend. >> john: whether it be your kids
8:14 am
out with if they run in a higher crowd than you there's pressure to be mounting pressure. >> exactly. you don't have to. you can say no. you can say hey, we've got other plans. we want to hang out at home as a family. no one is ever going to say oh, you're being cheap, you know. that's -- oh, that's not cool, don't invite ryan. they're always going to invite you anyway. >> john: what is your website? >> financial advisory institute.com. don't want keep up with the joneses. >> john: let's go to jayme. with. >> jayme: good morning to you. always great to see you. let's talk temperatures now. 40s and 50s comprise the temp map at this time. north, central and east central florida. we are on our way now. 50 at this time at orlando international. by 2:00. looking for area temperatures to reach well into the 60s, mid to upper 60s. little bit of thin cloud cover

8:28 am
county sheriff's deputies say they saw a man who is living here walked away from the burning house, and short time later heard a gunshot. they found him dead in the middle of the street. deputies say it appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound, took firefighters about 20 control. and earlier around 6:00 this morning we saw family members walk inside to collect whatever the fire. they didn't want to speak with us on camera. one brother told me he lost his brother in the fire and that they were very heartbroken about everything. they have not released the identity of that man and once we get more information we'll let you know. reporting live in volucia county, jackie orozco, fox 35 news. >> john: thanks. the marion county sheriff says he's ale payed after five of his deputies are charged in a brutal arrest. the incident happened in august of 2014. this is newly released surveillance video showing derrick price. this is what price looked like the day of his mugshot. his charges are drug possession

this is that day. without violence, by the way. yesterday former deputy was federally indicted. four other deputies were involved. they are still awaiting their sentencing. new this morning for orange county sheriff's on office has pressed a -- has now arrested a security guard in connection with a rash of thefts at a hotel near disney springs. deputies say that edward was stealing from the windham lake hotel where he worked. since last year there have been at least 20 complaints of that location totaling more than $10,000 in missing cash. >> reporter: the candidates rival each other on tissues. immigration. citizenship. >> so did you. >> reporter: at some point they rivaled the moderators. >> the last four have been

please attack ted. >> reporter: and rivaled the top contender in the poll. >> i'm a maniac and everyone on this stage is stupid, fat and ugly. and ben you're a terrible surgeon. now that we've gotten the donald trump portion out of the way -- >> amy: we got to laugh on that one. carl jackson is joining us with more on the debate last night. and i got to tell you carl, it was interesting the big elephant in the room was that donald trump wasn't there. did you feel like that was like a vacuum last night? >> reporter: well defense it it inly felt less exciting, no doubt about. >> amy: donald trump being in atmosphere. i got to tell you i think the debate became more substantive between the other candidates as a result of it. donald trump obviously i don't think it was a net gain or net loss for himself as a matter of fact, i just think donald trump is going to be donald trump.
8:31 am
but i have to say that -- he'll miss skipping out on that debate wasn't about megyn kelly, it was strategy and we'll see whether or not it worked for him, quite >> amy: so the des moines register had a headline saying cruz struggled last night. struggling? >> reporter: i absolutely did. i love cruz. i think he's a great debater. you could see in the first hour almost seemed like he needed donald trump there to just kind of ping-pong off of if you will. he started off strong. his opening was strong. he had a couple of great points in between on ethanol subsidies. he closed strong and well but i think he -- listen, ted cruz is a smart guy. he offered a joke. when he was talking about the different moderators coming at him with questions and kind of goading the other candidates it was actually a joke. he is just not good at delivering jokes, quite frankly,
8:32 am
but i can tell you i think rubio capitalized on it for sure. >> amy: who were you most impressed with last night or maybe surprised at how well they did? >> reporter: i got to be honest, i think the whole field did -- had a much better night for all of them. ben carson kind of got lost again, which is frustrating, but it's kind of typical quite frankly of ben carson. i was hoping he would at least have a zinger to put himself back in the running. he's got strong ground support, so we'll see what happens for him monday. there could still be surprises. rand paul had a decent night, a better night than he's had in a while. he just comes off as if he's annoyed all the time and i really think it hurts him. but rubio had a very strong night. i think he came out on top, quite frankly. >> amy: all right. you want to make a guess who you think will come out on top monday? >> reporter: you know what, i -- i don't want to be wrong, and
8:33 am
like -- i'm a cruz guy, just being honest here, but i got to tell you i think this debate may have hurt cruz a little bit. i think it helps rubio a little bit. so i think first place is up for grabs, and i think what's going to be important is to see who comes in second and third and how close the race is. if the first -- if the number one guy is a distant first place i think it's lights out. i think that guy takes it. right now it looks like it could be trump, even though i'm hoping it is cruz. >> amy: all right. interesting stuff for sure. always great to talk to you, carl jackson live from the newsroom this morning. thank you. >> reporter: thanks, amy. >> amy: be sure to stay with fox 35 for the latest on you decide 16. >> john: it was an interesting night to see the events and the coverage this morning. >> amy: yes. still to come justin bieber
8:34 am

8:35 am
8:36 am
disney decided maybe the movies aren't the way of the future. it took 30 years before they made another princess film. what was the next princess movie made? was it beauty in the beast, aladdin or " the little mermaid" ? all the disney fans will probably know the answer to this. i'm not so sure about david martin. he goes to the racetrack this morning. he's not feeling princesse at all. >> reporter: i'm in touch with my inner princess, amy. so i'm very thrilled that arial became part of your world as the next princess movie in " the little mermaid" >> amy: look at you. you seem confident about this. david martin is going with " the little mermaid" let's send it over to lieu answer next. >> i love " the little mermaid" , and i think it came out you said 30 years later?
8:37 am
>> i'll go with little mermaid. >> amy: what do you think, jayme? >> jayme: i'm going onboard with the two of those guys. >> amy: okay. okay. what do you think? >> john: i think they're probably right but i hate to go with them. i saw cars going around the track. that's pretty cool out there. >> amy: which is another dismy movie. >> john: i'm with them. >> amy: there is a disney movie about it. so you're going to agree little >> john: yes. >> amy: we'll see who got it right. here is the clip. it was arial. all these movies came out about the same time. little mermaid was first in 1989. " beauty and the beast" was 1991, and aladdin was 1992. of each other. then they were like i guess these movies do work. it's one of my favorites.
8:38 am
good job. >> reporter: i can sing all the songs. >> amy: you are impressive today. i thought i was going to catch you on that one. >> reporter: do you feel the warmth? >> amy: let david sing. you don't mind, jayme, do you? darn it. >> jayme: here we go. accuweather forecast update time, we have rain chances out, and that bright sunshine is back in. got a nice morning for you, a great afternoon. this evening, delightful continues. thank goodness for the cold front. now as you work up towards gainesville, ocala, at the beaches of volucia county, flagler county all the way down south, far south florida everybody finally drying out. and bringing back some very welcome sunshine i'm sure. 42 in gainesville now. 50 in orlando, kissimmee, st. cloud, all the way to coastal brevard county the 50s. dew point values as you start up north and go farther to the south that's when the numbers start dropping off. you can see that.
